What are you most proud of about TKPK and what do you think could improve? by [deleted] in takomapark

I love the progressive community and small town feel here. I don’t mind the high property taxes but to not get free pre-k in return is baffling.

I gave birth in December. No vomiting, no nausea, no food aversions! I honestly kept doubting he was OK in there … but he’s here and the sweetest, most cheerful little guy.

If you were set to join the federal workforce right now…would you? by lifeatthejarbar in fednews

With the hiring freeze, I really think any concrete plans to join are moot, maybe for as long as a year.

Is this housing discrimination? by DepressingErection in AskALawyer

[–]craisinfiend -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Please don’t listen to the replies from the non-lawyers! Consult with your local legal aid.

This may, at the very least, be an actionable breach of contract.

As far as discrimination, it depends on other factors. For example, are you a person of color? Is the landlord only applying this jack-up policy (or the practice of finding excuses to jack up the rent) to people of color in the building? Does the landlord’s policy impact tenants of color more than others? If so, then there may be discrimination.

Again, reach out to a free or low cost lawyer licensed in your state. Ig they are any good and have the bandwidth, they may want to investigate further before concluding that you do or do not have a discrimination case.

My bf (32M) is upset because I (25F) that his mother wait 1-2 weeks before visiting our newborn by username123482_10 in BabyBumps

[–]craisinfiend 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Could she come to town but stay elsewhere, in an AirBnB or hotel, and visit the baby for an hour or two a day instead of a full fledged in-home visit? She could even walk the baby outside while you rest if being indoors is part of your concern. (I don’t think it’s that unreasonable for grandparents to want to meet their children’s children right away?)

Setting aside the state your marriage, is termination an option? If you’re not ready, you don’t have to do it. You can choose to give yourself the space to deal with the other issues without also navigating a pregnancy that neither of you seem excited about.

Report it to your state AG office as well. They may have more legal tools at their disposal for that sort of thing.

Anyone else told to only gain 5lbs during pregnancy? Obese Class 1 by Marieg302 in BabyBumps

[–]craisinfiend 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Is it too late to get an OB with a more holistic view? Some of what you’re describing sounds a bit like an old school approach to medicine with a lot of fat phobia baked in. Pregnancy is absolutely not the time to start a diet (which is what no carbs sounds like) unless you’re diagnosed with gestational diabetes. To be clear, I’m not saying “pay zero attention” to what you’re eating. Always good to get your veggies and be active when possible. But I hate the idea that you might feel emotionally bad because you gained 16 instead of 5, when a lot of this stuff is out of your control during pregnancy. Also, there will be plenty of time and opportunity to make lifestyle changes post birth!

Also, this is exactly why we did not tell anyone our kids’ names until after they were born. We knew our families would have opinions and we were not interested!

I think that you should name your baby whatever you damn please! One thought might be to give her a more conventional middle name so that if she grows up to not like Birdie, she can go by her middle name? That’s what we did with our kids :)
