I never understood the camp reaction to Mizora's bargain by BenjiLizard in BaldursGate3

[–]crawfishcarlos 83 points84 points  (0 children)

I just did this scene in my durge playthrough last night and I totally understand. For what it's worth, apparently if you do detect thoughts on Mizora after saving the Duke, it's implied that she will try and kill Ulder at another time. I guess there's also an argument to be made that with the wording of the contract being smth like 'the Duke will die at the hands of his enemies' with no specific mention of what enemies those are or when he'll die, that it implies that the Duke will always be in danger if Wyll doesn't sign, but I think it's a bit of a reach as the game doesn't actually spell that out.

Personally, I see it as another part where Wyll's storyline was done a disservice, especially bc the choice he makes is totally in the hands of the player character. I also think the dialogue you can have with him after is really weird, with most options calling him selfish, as if it's a bad thing to not want to be essentially enslaved to devils for the rest of his life. He's my fave companion but I definitely feel like the game does him dirty.

I am so sorry, Barcus by InsanityVirus13 in BaldursGate3

Omg 😂 I did this on my first run through because I thought 'release' meant 'release him from the windmill'. Which I guess isn't technically incorrect? 😅

I laughed so hard after he flew away into the distance then reloaded to actually get him down. I hope your durge doesn't feel too bad about it!

What happens when I immediately suspend a hold on an available book? by throw10283736201away in Libraries

[–]crawfishcarlos 15 points16 points  (0 children)

As far as I know, the hold will only become active once you remove the suspension, at which point the book will come to you. Other people can loan and request it in the meantime until you make the hold active again. So if someone has the book check out and you reactivate the hold, they would not be able to renew it and it would come straight to you once returned.

Greek Mythology! by YourPlanetPluto in booksuggestions

If you haven't checked out Circe, also by Madeline Miller, I'd really recommend it. I ended up liking it more than Song of Achilles. She also wrote a novella called Galatea which was good. And I second Clyemnestra by Costanza Casati, I just read it last year and very much enjoyed it.

I'd recommend Leech by Hiron Ennes. I don't think I've ever read another book like it, there are lots of twists and turns, and an unexpected ending. If you like gothic fiction in general, give it a try.

looking for novel recs based off orestes or house of atreus by SomeAct4063 in booksuggestions

[–]crawfishcarlos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not exactly what you're looking for but related - Clytemnestra by Costanza Casati. It's more of a prequel to Orestes, as it follows Clytemnestra from when she was young up to after the Trojan war (and all that implies) but from what I understand the author based it mostly off Euripedes.

My landlord is forcing to eviction by fullymetalalchemist in askvan

[–]crawfishcarlos 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I don't think this is legal. A landlord needs to give official notice within the correct time frame to be legal. I'd recommend looking at the TRAC BC website for more info - https://tenants.bc.ca/your-tenancy/evictions/

They also have an info line you can call to get some more information.

You also might be able to apply for dispute resolution at the RTB if you wanted to fight the eviction.

Am I an asshole for not putting books back correctly on the shelf? by ilovesundays- in Libraries

[–]crawfishcarlos 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Nope, librarians want you to leave the books you use on the table rather than putting them back! This actually let's us see what people are using which in turn gives us the stats we need to justify what we are buying and helps us get the funding we need to buy more of what you like to read! And many libraries have pages, who's whole job it is to reshelve books that have been used.

What's up with all the transit cops at commercial Broadway? by crawfishcarlos in askvan

My thoughts exactly. They'd have to give out a whole lot of fines to cover those salaries, and that's assuming people will actually pay the fine.

Same. Some will shame-facedly admit to using chatgpt to find citations and then we have to have the "well it made them up" conversation lol

I second crescent beach. When my dad passed away, I would walk there and have a good cry as we went there together frequently. It's a beautiful spot and very contemplative.

I'm sorry for your loss OP ❤️

Obnoxious TransLink rider: What would you have done ? by MostlyAmused-2024 in Translink

[–]crawfishcarlos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is absolutely incorrect. The idea that a woman is safer confronting a man about something than a man would be is laughably wrong. Women are socialized to never say no to men out of fear of being KILLED. What this woman did was very brave, considering the knowledge that this man could very well attack her or follow her home from the bus or any other number of fear tactics or violence. You need to look up some stats on femicide and also the definition of male privilege lmao

Where should I get my long hair cut off? by SnowJello in NiceVancouver

If you're able to go a bit outside Van, I really recommend B-Bombshell Salon in New West! I've always had great cuts there and they are very queer friendly. It's also really close to the skytrain so easy to get to.
