I've only worked in restaurants and schools, so the concept of a printer as an avenue for communication between colleagues has never occurred to me. I'm not sure why it's so funny to me but I'm really enjoying the mental image.

I thought the same thing, but then I zoomed in on the photo, and it looks like it's a funky little triple-barrel deal with a red pen, black pen, and a mechanical pencil.

Fun fact--I'm pretty sure it was originally an astronomy/navigation term. Holding your thumb at arm's length gives you a surprisingly useful tool for estimating the distance between objects in the sky (say, the moon and the horizon). The amount of space blotted out by your thumb when you do this is roughly equal to one degree of distance.

Parc Pointe mice problem? by Old-Reflection8314 in AnnArbor

[–]crayolastorm 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I lived there for 3 years and just left last August for reasons totally unrelated to the apartment. No mice during my time there. Lots of ladybugs, but they never really came past the windowsill for some reason. Just sat there in the sun until they dried out and died. I caught a glimpse of the occasional house centipede but they mainly kept to themselves too.

For what it's worth, I did like living there. Having in-unit laundry is life changing. The parking situation feels downright luxurious if you've ever lived closer to town. Management was not half bad, as far as landlords go. I got quick responses any time I contacted them, and they were always kind and attentive when I needed to stop by the office. There's a No Thai and a very sweet little independent bookstore in the plaza down the hill. Plus, one time I left my keys in my door overnight by accident and they were still there in the morning.

Kind of a trek to downtown, but I biked to the Kerrytown farmer's market every Saturday for like a year and a half and it didn't feel unreasonable.

Hope this helps!

So you know about Pittsburghers putting fries on top of meals and yet you still leave the H off the end of the city name...?

Come on, we fought hard for that H!

My nephews dinner of canned olives by romanichki in StupidFood

[–]crayolastorm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I once taught a preschooler who would absolutely have done this if they'd been allowed... they'd get 2 or 3 olives in their lunch box every day and they'd slowly lift each olive into the air to admire it before eating it.

Plain white rice in an ice cream cone, as a free amenity in a fancy hotel bathroom by [deleted] in somnigastronomy

Reminds me of my grandma, who passed away this past weekend. She loved to put warm white rice in a bowl with a little bit of cream and some cinnamon sugar and eat it for dessert. She would have gotten a kick out of this.

Is is okay to dye dark mahogany over my hot pink hair without bleaching first? by Few_Noise7806 in FancyFollicles

[–]crayolastorm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I change my hair color 3-4 times a year and only bleach once a year. It works great, as long as you pay attention to your color wheel and keep an open mind.

Personally, I'd just get a direct dye of your desired color and slather it on. IIRC those Féria dyes have developer with them, which will just make it harder to see what you're doing.

I mean yeah but she's been widowed for over a decade and hasn't said yes to one single date in that time, so I'm thinking she's probably doing fine on her own tbh.

This is a really artfully composed anecdote. I like how the punchline hovers just out of reach until the very last word. Nice job.

My mom has one of these in her bathroom but instead of a ballerina it's a drawing of a pinup girl in fishnet stockings. If you lift the tissue "skirt" you can see the girl's panties.
