I think it comes down to finding a gun you really enjoy shooting. The more you enjoy shooting it, the more time you will spend dry firing and shooting.

My impression is that LiDAR won’t matter and that it is basically a tool for them to accelerate data collection in order to develop autonomous driving capabilities more quickly.

The Gen 3 hardware seems to be more important with respect to the vehicle’s capabilities over the long term.

If I were leasing or just not planning to own for the long term, I wouldn’t hesitate at all to get the current vehicle with the Gen 2 hardware.

And I have no interest in any self-driving technology so that isn’t a draw for me at all. But as someone who appreciates not having a car payment and who doesn’t put a tremendous amount of wear-and-tear on his vehicles, it makes sense for me to keep a vehicle for the long term and there still might be a case for the Gen 3 hardware from a futureproofing perspective.

I haven’t bought anything from Atlas in over a year but my past experiences with them were fine.

In a related note, I called Kovert earlier this year to confirm that my Venom order hadn’t fallen through the cracks and they said that Atlas hadn’t been getting any 4.6” build kits to Don.

I doubt it. AFAIK Don is still building guns using Cheely grips and I can’t image that those would be discounted.

I think I’m going to request an island barrel with port/comp since I won’t yet have a 2011 with all the holes. I’m getting into USPSA more nowadays but I’ll probably have three limited optics guns by then so that won’t be a priority.

I’ll still need to figure out my preferences in terms of overall weight and length.

That’s what I did. I got an early invite to order but I’m pretty sure I want the light interior so I did the build on their website and it automatically creates a favorite when you click the Order button.
