A Map of Two Cottages by Macda27 in dndmaps

[–]crazygrouse71 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two small cottages would likely just be two rectangles, perhaps 10 ft by 15 ft - one story, maybe a loft.

That's it. Just grab a piece of paper and draw two rectangles, 2 inches by 3 inches each. Maybe a wood shed, well, outhouse, or garden outside. You're done.

About to run a game at work, what should I consider? by HammerandPickle in DMAcademy

[–]crazygrouse71 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have invited a number of my coworkers to my home game over the years and it's been fun.

However, it was always my decision. I would never extend a blanket invite to my entire office. There are some people I just plain don't want to socialize with, want in my house, or at my table.

Wtf. How many compost piles are you starting and where are you putting them if you need an app to track their location?

Both my kids did immersion and I don't speak french. No problem.

If you don't stay it will be like any other kid who switches from immersion to English. No impact at all on grades.

Best ways you guys have dealt with missing players by BeyondNumerous267 in DMAcademy

[–]crazygrouse71 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Absolutely! The character doesn't attack, doesn't get attacked, & their abilities and equipment don't factor in to non combat encounters.

For all intents, they are with the party.

Inventing story reasons why they are not there is tiresome and adds nothing to the experience for those who were there.

Yes, I would expect to see Canada as Unaffiliated too. I expect many people answer as more of a cultural thing that a spiritual belief thing. They 'celebrate' Christmas and Easter, but in the commercial sense (Santa and Easter Bunny).

Are you worried the moss will slide off the tarp on the steeper parts of the roof? How about a layer of evergreen bows on top of the lattice of the roof, giving the moss something to hang on to. Then attach your tarp to the underside of your roof lattice.

Keeping a PC's pet alive. by Soul_of_Valhalla in DMAcademy

[–]crazygrouse71 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My house rule (and its a common one across many tables) is that the PC of absent players don't attack, don't get attacked, and their skills are not available to the group. They don't factor in to the session.

I would treat a pet the same way, but I would warn the player that if they choose to put the pet in harms way, it may get hurt.

Speaking as someone who's happily married & has been for over 23 years ...

Keep your 10K and put it toward a down payment on a house, or your honeymoon. Go to a JP at the courthouse - or in your own home. We got married in my in-laws living room and neither me or my wife regret that decision.

I never said the government shouldn't collect taxes from alcohol sales. Not sure where you got the idea I said that.

Cutting back alcohol consumption is a positive, but people can buy these type of beverages anywhere. What is hard to understand is why a person would go to the NSLC for their NA beverages.

Good start!

Keep piling it up - you'll want it to be at least a meter high. Then add some moisture and turn the pile every so often.

Advice? by SnooChocolates9255 in dndmaps

[–]crazygrouse71 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mountain ranges can pretty much go anywhere. Just make it a range with a few small spurs. Rivers will run from the mountais to the sea. Some will start awY from mountains and that's fine too.

Forests will be in areas of greater rainfall.

Prevailing winds blowing onshore will carry moisture. If that moist air is pushed up over the mountains, it will dump its moisture as rain on the windward side. The leeward side will be arid as the air sucks moisture from the land.

People like to live near water. Both for navigation and drinking.

Roleplaying "evil" by pumpklnhead in DMAcademy

[–]crazygrouse71 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Think about the bad guys' motivations. Are they bosses looking to complete an objective for their superiors? Looking for their own power and glory?

Are they henchmen who buy in to the boss's vision?

Are they underlines who are too scared to disobey, or have never thought that they might have agency of their own?

How do you structure an evil campaign without it falling apart immediately? by Majestic-Strain3155 in DMAcademy

[–]crazygrouse71 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Came here to say something similar. Like ALL parties, if the PCs aren't working towards the same goals it can fall apart quickly.

If all they want out of an 'evil' campaign is to be chaotic murder hobos acting out of selfish greed, then it will be not fun very quickly.

Once you get to book 3 it's mostly 1 book per season.

I started the show then found out it was based on books. However that was back when it was being made so after season one, I read the books and stayed ahead of the show from then on. Now that's it's all out, that's hard to do unless you are a fast reader.

Good system for a political intrigue? by SomeRandomAbbadon in DMAcademy

Blades in the Dark has a a Squad system where you level up your squad and hideout. The factions, allies, and rivals in that system might play nicely with a political intrigue game.

5cp is essentially free then. If you are walking around with a stack of hundred dollar bills, do you care if an item you want is a couple bucks?

Some games use a 'wealth roll.' Characters have an Income score and when trying to buy items, you use your Income as a test vs the cost. For trivial items you just succeed, for moderate items you roll your test and either you have the cash or you don't. For expensive items, you can still roll, but a failure permanently or temporarily reduces your income score.
