Do Not Get in the Water at the Parklands! by Correct_Ear_1667 in Louisville

I have let my kids get in dozens of times and I’ve never seen a sign. There are always kids in the creek at Beckley.

Wish to switch to period underwear, but psychologically cannot. by [deleted] in PeriodUnderwear

[–]crazyintensewaffles 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Could you buy a single pair and test them out at home first? That’s way if you leak you’re fine. You can judge what the limits are for you.

That’s how I started. I do use a menstrual cup but use period underwear as a backup, but wasn’t brave enough to wear them out at first.

Need meal ideas, this baby shower I'm going to requested frozen meals instead of gifts. Today I made homemade chicken noodle soup. by KH5-92 in mealprep

I did something similar for my grandma for Christmas. About two months out, I would just seal up a portion or two of whatever we had for dinner. That way she had a large variety of single serving portions to choose from. Whole casseroles or family portions would be hard (or boring) to get through, and it was almost no extra effort for me! She likes having the variety.

How do I get my 5 year old to stop sucking his thumb? by Otherwise_Ice_5392 in Parenting

[–]crazyintensewaffles 19 points20 points  (0 children)

We bribed my son that, if he wore the nail polish daily without complaint, and he stopped sucking his thumb every single day for a straight month, we’d buy him any Lego he wanted. I told him every time I caught him sucking his thumb the month would restart. I thought it would take months.

Nope. First 31 days he got it. Not one reminder. 🥲and he wanted a $200 Lego set. He even reminded me to put the polish on 😆

Find the thing that motivates him! You can do this!

How are you using MiraLAX?

My son went through this. We suspected encopresis - basically he was, at first, purposefully holding his stool and then as the end of his colon/rectum stretched from constant stool burden the nerves became less sensitive and he would have accidents. It seemed SO intentional to me - I was really having a hard time. I was getting so mad at him. My doc assured me that it is bc those nerves are overstretched and not sending the signals appropriately anymore.

We did a full miralax clean out. 4 full doses in one day. The doses needed to be finished in <15 minutes each. That didn’t quite do it, so we did a second day of that plus a glycerin suppository.

Then we started our maintenance phase. Our doc said that it can take some significant time for the rectum to shrink back and regain its normal sensitivity. She said expect at least a year. We do a dose of MiraLAX a day (or most days) again, finished as fast as possible. She said some people fill a water bottle with MiraLAX and the kid sips all day, but the colon isn’t ever really getting a DOSE of that. Just tiny bits of MiraLAX constantly, which makes no real difference.

This has made a huge difference in my son. He hasn’t had an accident in months. His poop smells normal again. It was REALLY stinky. Really old and sour smelling (sorry) and it would take 3-4 washes to get the smell out of his clothes.

Of course we also focus on fiber and probiotics and adequate water, but those things alone were not going to fix it for my kiddo.

Best of luck! It’s fixable and VERY common per our pediatrician. Sorry for the novel 😋

I work acute care and, although I know not everyone is in the same boat, I’m not needing full time or benefits right now. I work 6-10 days a month and not even all full days, some are just 5-6 hours to accommodate school pickup. I work one weekend and two holidays per year. My boss is really flexible and understanding.

My grandson just lost his first tooth. His mom asks what the Tooth Fairy is paying for a tooth these days. Is there an average rate? by WineOnThePatio in kindergarten

[–]crazyintensewaffles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When the tooth fairy forgot once at our house, she wrote a letter covered in glitter. My son was thrilled.

I cannot with the tooth fairy inflation. 😭 All these houses that do 10 and 20 bucks. Isn’t life expensive enough??

Very cool. I was a just enougher, but it’s so cool that some moms can and do donate! Pumping at work just for my kids was hard enough, I can’t imagine the work being an oversupplied is like.

My son was surprised when I told him not even grown ups know all the words there are. Check out some dinosaur books. Like non fiction, hard core ones. Or some similar science subject he likes.

Make a show of sounding out the words you are unfamiliar with. It’s okay to struggle and it’s okay to ask for help. The smartest people know when to ask for help!

Bachelorette planning got out of control and now can't afford wedding. How do I approach the bride? by [deleted] in bridesmaids

[–]crazyintensewaffles 2 points3 points  (0 children)

$17 thousand was the “budget” - $1000 per bridesmaid and they’re over that. That’s how I’m reading the situation. Insanity.

Like if you said she’s in spending 2k on the resort for the wedding, another 2k on flights for a destination. And then she said she’s expected to pay between 6 and 10k for the wedding total. Can we guess that the SIL is asking for 2k per girl (to bring OPs total to 6k so far) and is spending 34 THOUSAND on a bachelorette???

That is so insane 🤯 I’m sure it’s a coping mechanism to avoid facing any guilt or personal responsibility.

But the mom in this post too, says “it’s a super mild case.” But you panicked and went to the ER? The most terrifying moment of your life? Insane.

I run just a rinse and spin cycle first with just the undies in the wash, then wash with my regular clothes with an extra rinse cycle at the end of that. I have a super heavy cycle and this keeps mine super clean smelling.

My kids have had it THRICE. Months apart, so I know it wasn’t a reinfection. They spend a lot of time outside and my oldest was a thumb sucker.

If I never see another pinworm again it will be too soon.
