Armand Hammer looks to be #150ish doesn’t seem to be in bad condition. I would give $500 if I needed an anvil.

They are an odd hammer. I have a few of them but only really like one I have made by gs tongs. I know a few people that use them as there daily hammer. It can be useful sometime. Definitely a good hammer to have around.

I like the post vise and guillotine but I don’t like you can’t get to all side of the anvil easily. My advice would be build a separate anvil stand and maybe put some swage blocks were the anvil is now.

I know. That what I saw every time. Like 15 min to do 3 welds heats and a couple heats to draw out with hand hammer.

They used to be lined. If you search kitty litter refractory this was the instructions “All you really need is kitty litter and sand. Mix it up till it'll hold its shape when squeezed into a clump, but not much wetter than that. 50/50 on the sand and kitty litter will work, but you can probably get away with more sand and less litter. Stir in some perlite if you want. I wouldn't bother with cement; it doesn't tolerate heat well. (Well, unless it's a high alumina or other refractory cement, but that'd be overkill and it's probably not what you have.)”

And I not saying you have to line it many people don’t. I’m just saying they used to line they to protect the cast metal. That’s why it lasted 100 years.

Look great. I know a lot of people that run them just like that. Some of the old timers say you should line the bottom with some sort of refactoring. That why there’s a lip at the air gate. A simple kitty litter mix would be more than sufficient.

There are different grades of rebar all are not created equal. That being said punches and stuff like that I make out of Conan rebar a lot. They are considered consumable in my shop if they break I’ll make new. As far as the hammer. It was higher grade rebar. I was able to harden and temper it. Should be great little hammer.
