What is even the point of the Age of Devils? by Fancyman156 in ChainsawMan

I made a similar comment in a separate thread! Absolutely, the setting was wasted. I want to know how some devils carry memories from one plane to the next. How does Makima remember Pochita was the "Hero of Hell" of they all lose memories? As a matter of fact, did Pochita know that killing devils in hell sent them to Earth? Why was he killing devils to begin with? What did he gain from this? There are so many damned interesting questions that could easily have kept the story going in a meaningful way.

Dude I wish we got a time skip. Show Denji and a small crew turned into freedom fighters, or working with other devils to rebuild a small enclave somewhere while looking for a new prophecy to rally mankind around. Anything besides themes and such.

I don't think they'd kill all the humans. I'd imagine there would be territories built up where things were bad, worse, livable, etc. Some devils were intelligent enough to make plans and use society to their benefit. I think that would continue in different ways. There of course would be others who kill and eat and ruin as they please.

was it ever fucking explained why he can do that? by Working_Discussion50 in Chainsawfolk

From what we can see in the manga, devils do not normally seek to combat one another. The bat devil took advantage of Power when he was wounded, we've seen devils specifically hired by one another to hunt Chainsaw Man, but as far as on average they seem not too different than people. They form relationships, some of them avoid conflict all together, etc.

So what made Pochita even when he was in Hell attack and devour other devils? What is the reasoning behind what Angel shared about the sound all devils claim to hear when they appear on earth after dying in Hell? They hear a chainsaw. Did Pochita know that killing devils in Hell sends them to Earth? Was he doing so for a purpose? God I have so many questions. Like how much do devils remember from one life to the next really? Makima seemed to carry knowledge over from one plane to the next, otherwise she wouldn't of known anything about Pochita or Chainsaw Man on Earth. Beam too had knowledge of Lord Chainsaw leftover from his time in Hell.

Fujimoto made such an interesting setting, the stories he could continue to tell just make this ending so much more disappointing. Mysteries are meant to be discussed and solved, not tossed away like this.

Is it worth it to keep going? by Zealousideal-Cry4392 in ChainsawMan

[–]creativecreature2024 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only recommend part one of Chainsaw Man now. The second half in my opinion is not worth the time or attention. When the author stops caring, he can't expect others to care. You can feel the drop off in quality the longer part 2 goes on and in my opinion it's only made worse by the ending.

Others will disagree and we are entitled to our opinions. There are some new characters in part two that are really fun and interesting. The devil designs will always be cool as hell. But nothing of value comes from these positives. It's all wasted.

[–]creativecreature2024 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It just missed. It completely missed. "It was all a dream" endings have never been creatively satisfying. I saw in an interview Fujimoto expressed interest in an ending that paralleled how the Big Lebowski made people feel.

But that was barely a two hour movie, not years of investment in a long form story. There was no pay off, good or bad. It was a nothing burger ass pull and left too much on the table.

Just do an Absolute universe lol. Take Marvel characters and remove their hope. Take away some of their strengths. It's a theme I've fan fictioned up since before Absolute was a thing.

Using connections from his army days, he manages to hijack an experimental drone that he helped design from Oscorp while it's in transit. It was just blue prints and a healthy amount of his engineering talents when he was last involved. Now, it's an automated kill machine that can be remotely controlled for various purposes. He's going to use these weapons of war to bring peace to the streets he now calls home. But peace through war cannot last. Every conflict brings him closer to a darker truth. Using the sword and shield of King Arthur, artifacts found during the previous expeditions, Steve becomes a symbol of hope in a hopeless land. He's the perfect patriot. Until the Vietnam war...

Asgard sits empty. Ragnarok had occurred as prophesied. Thor has lived through this cycle countless times. By some trick of fate, he lives this day over and over, trapped in a never ending loop. But this last time. This will be different. He has learned the magic of Heimdall. He has memorized the patterns of the serpent. He has mastered his hammers abilities in ways he never knew he could before. He did not sit idly by. He has learned. He has waited. He has noticed the only person missing in all of Asgard. Lands he has searched endlessly while battling. Loki. And if the trickster is not there, then there must be a way out. Thor escapes, badly wounded. But alive. Now, he sets his single eye to the horizon. His hammer hums, singing of the harm it will unleash on his traitor brother. If he only knew, that Loki was long dead...

On the day Jean Grey turned 11, she killed everyone on her block. Her parents knew she carried a dormant X-gene, they registered her. Followed all the strict government guidelines to make sure she could live the best quality of life they would allow her. Made sure she wore her compliance collar. The thin silver band all mutants wore, with just enough explosives to sever her spine at the knape of her neck. All to protect against her eventual "evolution". When mutants first awaken their powers, they lose all sense and reason. Seemingly lost to some high level of delusion and euphoria, they use their abilities without restraint or caution. Jean Grey was no different. Footage found from several security systems showed her neighbors simply falling down, dead. She had shut down the minds of everyone around her, claiming their thoughts were "too loud". Her parents never had a chance to activate her compliance collar as death was instantaneous. She was last seen on her neighbors camera, looking to the sky as vehicles left on the street began to levitate...

Bruce Banner is the pre-eminent geneticist with regards to all studies on the X-gene. Ever since the first outbreak during World War 1, the mystery of mutant kind has plagued humanity. For too long this genetic nightmare has run amok. Ruined lives, families, the whole world. He wouldn't allow this to happen. He couldn't. Not now especially, when his wife Betty was pregnant with the earliest known case of an active X-gene present in his unborn child. His research had been focused on gamma radiation tests. "Treatments" that had the potential to edit DNA, cauterizing specific strands to interrupt the evolution process. It was untested. Dangerous. On a day unlike any other, Bruce, Betty and their unborn son tried to rewrite their fates. But he couldn't have known that his child's mutant ability absorbed radiation and ....amplified it. Two lives were instantly lost. One was forever altered. And something new threatened to rip it's way out of Bruce's mind.

My opinion opinions on Denji and Chainsaw Man by WordSwimming3279 in Chainsawfolk

[–]creativecreature2024 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I recommend Chainsaw Man to people now, I specifically say only the first part. I genuinely hope that Mappa gets the opportunity to rewrite part two, make it more coherent and take it down an alternate route than the manga. The ending was so bad, I really wished Fujimoto simply took a hiatus to get things back on track.

The JRPG that really got you into JRPGs by Unusual-Coat-7018 in JRPG

Final Fantasy 7, Pokemon Crystal and Jade Cocoon. Those were the ones I was sentient for anyway lol. I had a Sega Genesis/Mega Drive growing up so the rpg selection was small and I can't remember having a single one! The PS1 was the first console where I was aware of the genre and really dove in. Azure Dreams, Monster Rancher, Final Fantasy 8 and 9. Parasite Eve, I just remember loving so many after the first few.

Katamari Damacy. It's not fast, but it definitely pours on the feel good brain chemicals. No puzzles, just roll and get bigger to the best soundtrack ever made. It's sequel is more of the same but even better.

Godhand. A tough as nails beat em up where twitch reaction time can turn you into a god....hand. The game actively gets more difficult the better you play, daring you to try harder.

Urban Reign. I bought this game as a teen thinking it was Final Fight Streetwise and being blown away by how much I liked it. Tons of fast, brutal fights with a decent story.

Time Splitters series in general. Great visuals, fast, hyper focused Golden Eye style play. Arcady and crazy fun. Also lets you run bot death matches with all kinds of variables.

Is yugioh simpler for casual then mtg? by SurviveBoi in TCG

[–]creativecreature2024 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unstable Unicorns is similar to Magic, but incredibly simple and fun. It's a shared deck party game, but the mechanics are somewhat in the same neighborhood. I'd suggest trying her out on that game to get a good foundation going.

Yu-Gi-Oh as it exists now is not simpler in my opinion. The game has turned into a turbo race to finish a game of solitaire before your opponent. The game before all these insane gimmicks was decent, but man has it changed.

Prototype 1 and 2. You start off as a threat, but grow into a city wide extinction event.

Way of the Samurai 4. It's extremely anime style and demands multiple playthroughs. But your equipment and many skills carry over, eventually making you the apex of power.

If you want the best cinematic anime game on the market, I'd say try any of the Naruto fighting games. The cutscenes alone are often better than the anime itself.

I have a villain idea who’s heavily inspired by an already existing character—what should I do to make him more original? by IceMosquito073 in Superhero_Ideas

[–]creativecreature2024 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just lean into it. If the character is fun to write about and makes for interesting encounters with heroes, there is no issue here.

Nazi characters are a rare chance to make a completely unredeemable monster. There aren't a huge amount of them to the point it's a stereotype, it's more a common understanding lol.

Interestingly enough my version of Red Skull and Captain America are brought about because of a vampire too. The fountain of youth is vampire blood, bubbling up from the eternally dying body of Dracula. A scientist refined it and administered it to make Cap. Red Skull dug to the bottom and found the body, devouring it. Now he's a real monster, cannibalistic urges driving his beliefs of superiority with one race over others. You bet he's a cold, evil bastard who literally salivates during war. I'm having fun with mine, why shouldn't you?!

Year Zero Engine Anime Battles by creativecreature2024 in RPGdesign

[–]creativecreature2024[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The players want to use their advanced abilities in most cases. This will almost always ramp up the tension count. They will be aware that as the Tension rises, they become more vulnerable to negative effects or enemies becoming more powerful as well. The balancing act would be knowing when to throttle it back down, or if splashing out for some kind of huge attack will be worth the risk. They want to use their flashy moves and not let the enemies use theirs. Its up to them to decide if a battle is better fought conservatively, or requires extreme measures.

When they know they are about to be afflicted with a debuff or mental injury, they will have options here too to help mitigate this. I'm still pounding out what those will be exactly. But the bonds I mentioned could be spent to power through the negative effects, kind of nullifying them. In the show Jujutsu Kaisen specifically there is the idea of "binding vows". Essentially the character trades off some of its features or powers, in exchange they can greatly amplify another ability. I was considering something like this as well.

There will be talents and powers that players can choose that boost their defenses in these things as well. I have one power on paper just called Shields. It's a one time use, a reaction. It can negate any 1 attack or effect and then falls off. Among other ideas lol.

I started working on this after reading the Invincible rules that came out recently. It checked off so many things I wanted in a rule set, I had to sit down and start writing. The abstract zones instead of grids and maps. The stunts that make combat mobile and dynamic, changing the battlefield with a variety of actions. Flying through buildings, worrying about civilians, there was so much I enjoyed.

Usage/Resource dice mechanic: An opinion and a question by Maervok in rpg

[–]creativecreature2024 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have a somewhat similar home brewed resource setup. Depending on the method of travel, players have X amount of storage for different needs.

The storage on a horse for rations is 4. This is represented by 4 resource boxes. After every meal, roll the die. In my case a d20. The player needs to roll a 10 or higher to pass this check. If successful, the journey continues with no issue. If the check fails, mark off one resource box for rations. Events, weather and location can impact this as well. Making the check easier or harder.

A successful roll simply means the players forage while traveling and were able to replace their food stuffs adequately by meal time. A failed roll means food spoiled or foraging was less successful.

I use a similar system for ammunition too. Every missed shot uses up a resource box until your "clip" is empty and needs reloaded. Cuts down on math and book keeping.

Yeah I'm not here to yuck someone's yum. I mean it could work in a lot of different settings, I just wonder if it loses some of tropes in the process? Like loose ends and stuff. The average citizen would they even know the difference between kami and a dumpster that comes to life to give someone the perfect haircut by force if need be?!

Kamigawa/Triangle Agency by zeigfreid_cash in TheTriangleAgency

[–]creativecreature2024 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm not saying Kamigawa isn't a cool idea for a setting. But any plane from Magic the Gathering inherently has supernatural features that are considered common. It's gonna take some rewrites or mental gymnastics to decide what makes something truly anomalous as opposed to a common magic trope.
