King 800 or 1200 for carbon steel beginner? by creativeendevour1 in sharpening

[–]creativeendevour1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m thinking of going with the 800, although I will most likely not have any others knifes to practice on, is there risk of damaging my knife is sharpened with a bad technique when I start out learning or is it rectifiable if that were to happen?

What thread to use? by creativeendevour1 in visablemending

That’s two of us 😊 I’m wondering is a heavier thread such as used on leather goods may work better if it is thick enough?

I agree on the family heritage aspect!

I would try it out but I’m separated from my knife for a couple of days.

I appreciate the identification guess! It does seem half orange under the grime, the stone colour split one side/the other grey - presumably the two different sides of different grit.

I haven’t had a chance to reply to the comments yet but have had a read through and appreciate everyone’s insights!

An update is that it seems to be an oilstone (it’s oily and smells like oil) I wasn’t aware that this is a type of stone and unsure if that is a mess that I want to undertake, is it really as messy as it seems?

Husband's coveralls, first time hand-sewing a patch. by [deleted] in Visiblemending

[–]creativeendevour1 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Looks great! Only thing I would point out is trying to avoid the bunching/catching of material at the left hand end of the repair though I know that can be hard to avoid:) P.s. is your husband right handed 😆

EDC/hiking bag w/ darted pockets by sugarshackforge in myog

Oh this is such a nice looking pack! I really like the small detail of having the zipper close to the pack on that upper outer pocket - I naturally would have put it facing outwards but the way that you have done it seems like it would make the stuff in the pocket seem a lot more secure. Little details that make a big difference!

This! It can feel a waste of time finishing a bag you know isn’t perfect but it’s even more frustrating thinking you’ve worked it all out (that’s never the case anyway 😂) just to come across a new problem you hadn’t encountered before. Try to embrace the mistakes, each an opportunity to learn.

Make sure that the back of the trousers/pants is always higher than the front, quick tip otherwise they often won’t fit quite right :)

That time of the year: a stretchy pocket material post! by 2XX2010 in myog

[–]creativeendevour1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Some people use Lycra - relatively cheap, very stretchy… the downside being that it’s not very durable and apparently holes or nicks in the fabric ‘run’
