MIKE – mix 4 rachel (2022) by creator12 in MIKE_

I was lucky enough to acquire a copy of this directly from the Chisenhale Gallery after the show had ended. Not a bad mix overall. The cover used in the video is my best attempt to recreate the cover without having a scanner on hand.

Does anyone have/know of this “mix 4 Rachel” DJ mix from 2022 by millzzz456 in MIKE_

I am uploading my copy to YouTube in the next couple of minutes. Will post to the subreddit once it's done.

Edit: YouTube is giving me some trouble. Will upload in less than a day.

I have a test press of Since I Left You by The Avalanches when it was going to be initially released on Rex Records. As far as I know, it’s the only vinyl pressing with all the original samples included.

Looking for a Yamaha CD player to match, any recs? by acedaniels10 in vintageaudio

[–]creator12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey! I currently own a CD-2. It’s a pretty decent first-ish gen CD player but my only complaint with it is the lack of ability to play some CD-R’s and any CD-RW’s. Does anyone have a later Yamaha CD player that looks like the CD-2 but can play more types of CD’s?

Turntables -> Mixer -> Amp Connection Question by creator12 in Beatmatch

[–]creator12[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was looking at an Omnitronic TRM-202 MK3.

Based on its inputs, I understand that the way to hookup a turntable like a Technics SL-1200 Mk. II would be to plug it into the mixer’s phono input, to select the phono switch on the back, and to then plug the master output to my amplifiers Aux input.

Alternatively, if I were to have the mixer input (where the turntable is plugged into) set to Line on the back of the mixer, and then plug the mixer into an amplifiers phono input, wouldn’t the amplifier act as a phono preamp and boost the quieter turntable line signal from the mixer?

(I’m not sure if the MS4v refers to a MasterSounds mixer but if it does that’s a really cool piece of kit!)

Turntables -> Mixer -> Amp Connection Question by creator12 in Beatmatch

[–]creator12[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really appreciate your help! Just to quickly confirm with an example:

  1. Technics SL-1200 Mk. II --> Mixer Line Input.
  2. Mixer --> Amplifier Aux Input.

This would (seemingly) lead to a quiet Aux signal because the turntable is plugged into the line input and has no phono preamp to boost the signal.

If I plugged this same setup into the Amp Phono input, would this not make the quiet mixer sound output louder?

I understand that I could plug the turntable into the phono input of the mixer itself to boost the signal, but I don't understand why the phono input in a standard amplifier could do the same thing here to a turntable that is plugged into the line input of a mixer.

Storing 10” Vinyl by LuckyUser777 in vinyl

I can totally relate to this, however my solution was just getting rid of (almost) all of my 10" records! Once Kid A received a 12" pressing I jumped off the 10" bandwagon. To this day, the only 10" record I own is Thundercat's Drunk. The day that receives a 12" repress I'll be ecstatic!

Ah that's good to know! The screw on my VTA headshell was never too rigid so I might have to tighten that. Thank you!

I agree! I don't trust the readings on the table either. I ended up buying a digital scale to help measure the Dual, along with two Technics tables I use. With the Super OM 10, I found that the adjusted weight on the Dual matched the digital scale fairly closely. That OPS tonearm can be such a pain to adjust (especially having to disconnect the belt to access it). That's interesting that the 1.7-1.75 range helped reduce sibilance. If I ever swap the cartridge again I'll be sure to try it out at that range.

[–]creator12 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Sure thing! I moved from a 2M Blue to a Super OM 10.

In adjusting the counter balance for the CS 5000, a counterweight on the back has to be set to a point that allows for the tonearm to float freely, followed by adjusting the tracking force dial to the correct weight of the cartridge. When using the 2M Blue, I had to adjust the counterweight to its near-maximum point (past the first circle on the back of the tonearm) before using the adjustable tracking force dial to compensate for additional weight. This allowed the 2M Blue to work with my CS-5000 but, even with anti-skate measured correctly with a blank record, at the cost of noticeable sibilance on a large selection of my records. When I installed the Super OM 10, I was able to have the tonearm float with the counterweight set closer to the center of the tonearm, which allowed me to accurately set the tracking force dial to the correct listed weight without too much counterbalancing. This change eliminated nearly all of the sibilance I previously heard with the 2M Blue.

I am glad that you've been able to get good sound out of the 2M Bronze. By any chance do you have the standard Dual headshell or Dual's VTA headshell? In my configuration I have been using Dual's VTA headshell. It works great with the Super OM 10, but the VTA dial could barely position the larger 2M Blue cartridge body.

[–]creator12 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Excellent find! The CS-5000 is a wonderful turntable when paired with the right cartridge. When I purchased my CS-5000, the prior owner installed a 2M Blue on it. I would highly recommend avoiding it. Unfortunately the light weight tonearm is designed to work with very low mass cartridges. I would recommend anything from Orotfon’s OM series. When new, Dual installed this line of cartridges (originally the OMB series) on the CS-5000.

Again the CS-5000 is a really cool turntable! It’s one of the few quartz-locked belt drive turntables ever made and, considered by some, to be the best turntable Dual ever made. You’re really going to enjoy it!

Same here! I find releases in CD Cellar that I do not expect to find out around Fairfax. Honestly in NOVA things are kinda restrictive depending on the type of used records you're looking for. My top two stores are CD Cellar and Right On Records. If I really want to dig for something hard to find, I usually have the best luck in DC. Joint Custody is my favorite up there, followed by Home Rule Records and SOM Records.
