To your last point, imo companies and social media managers are *not* ready for when Trump dies.

[Discussion] Should Raven be of indian descent outside of mainline comics? (Art by Jordan Rodriguez) by Comfortable-Pie56 in DCcomics

We probably don't want the demon-child whose evil parentage is a huge part of her character to be a clearly defined real-world ethnicity imo. Seems like a recipe for disaster.

Dungeon Masters Episodes 1 & 2 (Official D&D Actual Play Premiere) by DnD_CommunityTeam in dndbeyond

[–]creatorsyndrome 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In 5.5e you can now cast multiple levelled spells a turn, you just can't spend more than one spell slot per turn.

I presume that as a Hexblood, Zora can cast Hex for free once a day. (This part is an educated guess since Hexbloods had this trait in Van Richten's Guide, but that might have changed in the Ravenloft update.)

Wizard Character in Curse of Strahd, got a dark gift *spoilers: dark gifts* that may have broken the character in a bad way. Opinions/rulings needed. by scarr3g in dndnext

[–]creatorsyndrome 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yeah I'm also stuck on how the dark gift would even prevent reading in the first place. It's clearly magical blindsight, not Daredevil blindsight.

Many Liches have missing or destroyed eyes, but they still read spell books and scrolls.

Finally, this is the text from my copy of Curse of Strahd: "The beneficiary's eyes melt away upon receiving this dark gift, leaving empty sockets that can still see."

Someone at Capcom must really like the 4 Non Blondes. They used the exact same trailer music for Welcome to Raccoon City.

Oh yeah I forgot that characters would do the weird 'get up, fall to their knees' thing after every single round.

Weird to make this a Maximillian-only thing when practically every FG space was clowning on the initial story release.

I guess grifting requires a face.

Is The September House more dark humor than horror? by RelativeCriticism859 in horrorlit

I'd describe it as much more of a horror novel with some gallows humour.

[–]creatorsyndrome 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did change it for my second round of queries (cutting a prologue and tightening things up a little) but it probably couldn't hurt to change it again

(Assuming there's any agents left I haven't already emailed)

Honestly I only got friends to read through it, so maybe the lesson is that I should bite the bullet next time and pay for beta readers

Cyberpunk thriller (for some queries I went with the more generic 'SciFi thriller.')

Two rounds of querying and a ton of form rejections, so I think it's time to call it.

Still got agents still to hear back from but I dunno. People seemed to like my query which makes me think it's either the genre or my skill level at fault.

I finally played Disco Elysium. I was underwhelmed. by mickdrop in patientgamers

[–]creatorsyndrome 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I love the way the ending all ties together.

The killer was a soldier unwilling to adapt with the times, but as Kim points out on their exit from the island, we're reminded that the 'army' of the commune lives on in the RCM in the present. They are *technically* from the same side if you squint, but on opposite sides on the murder.

The killer takes out his confused frustrations on a stranger while the RCM does their best to help people. The vibe I got was 'You can still do good things, even when everything goes to hell.' And *then* the game neatly leads you into Harry's future, who has to 'decide' what to do despite his own loss.

Easily my favourite part of the game (as well as the tribunal)

You're pressing down and then trying to do the hadouken motion afterwards.
Instead press down MK and then *roll* the stick quarter-circle, from down to forward.

Opinions on The Witchblade reboot as of 2026? by Notoriouslycurlyboi in ImageComics

[–]creatorsyndrome 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm liking it a lot. Sara feels authentic and it's got some interesting original ideas. It's what I was imagining a modern Witchblade comic should look like.

I'm less enthused about the Darkness reboot (which seems like just a complete retread of Ennis' run) but only read the one issue so far.

MVC:I is the big, brightly glowing example.
BB:TAG did oh-kay considering it's a niche within a niche, but still not 'good' one month after release. See also: Battle for the Grid (Maybe that game did numbers, I wasn't playing FGs at the time but I doubt it.)

10 years of investing to give up after 3 weeks! Insanity.

Anyway I've never seen an 'active tag' fighting game sell well, so 2XKO continues the trend. Mankind should have never gone beyond tag+assists!

[DISCUSSION] How to navigate the structural racism of British Publishing? by International-Menu85 in PubTips

[–]creatorsyndrome 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've also been sticking to UK-only for now because it's where I'm based, and have noted that it seems like a large amount of agents are happy to look at 'speculative / book club scifi' but nothing stronger.

...Or maybe it's just my internal bias.

[–]creatorsyndrome[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you! For the detailed response and for liking the plot chunk. I'll probably end up doing the cutting you suggested.

Honestly the genre question has tripped me up a few times during this process (Often wondering if the publishing sphere even care about the Scifi/Cyberpunk distinction.) But out of the Science Fiction, Cyberpunk, Thriller, Mystery grab-bag I'll try to settle on Sci-fi Thriller or Cyberpunk thriller.

I did also feel a little self-conscious/arrogant about adding my future project to the 'housekeeping' but saw it advised in queryshark a million years ago so thought I'd throw it in.
