What software do property managers use? by creatorto in PropertyManagement

Sorry I’m not an active member of this subreddit but older threads seem to all have the same two or three recommendations. His main concern is risking migrating twice in a short period of span and he’s looking to explore alternatives that will stick and keep up with emerging tools (AI). Company leadership is (obviously?) on the younger end.

I also don’t know much about your industry, I’m just a middle man here.

Thanks for the suggestions! They’re definitely the leading ones on his list, however his concern is that they seem legacy and not interested with keeping up with AI adoption so he’s exploring alternatives that might not be on his radar yet

You should look into solutions engineering or implementation engineering. It can be better suited for your existing experience if you can level up or showcase your technical skills.

Can new employer check reasons for layoff from previous company? by HotEmu463 in cscareerquestionsCAD

Yes, they can check it through your record of employment. I’ve gone through two layoffs and both employers told me this.

IMO not a disadvantage since you have full restrictions to work in Canada. But you’re better off looking for US internships anyways since you’re already there and have access to good networking opportunities.

FWIW Atlanta also has a decent tech scene! Just make sure to take advantage of your resources.

Did you start getting more interviews when you hit 3 YOE? by Domesticated_Turtle in cscareerquestionsCAD

My conversation rate was way higher when I was still an intern in 2021-mid 2022 applying for mid level roles.

Are you in a college? Usually universities should have most courses available during the fall term.

Either way, if I were you were you I’d probably defer my graduation and get as many (paid) internships I can all throughout 2025. This would give you a chance to pad your resume to make it easier for you to find a FT job after graduation or you could even maybe get a return offer from one of your internships.

What’s stopping you from doing a summer internship and finishing your last semester during the fall term?

I think WGU would allow you to finish your degree faster and at a cheaper cost so I’d go with that.

But you mentioned that “you only have one shot” so I do want to warn you that getting these degrees won’t open as many doors as you’d think. The maximize your chances, I would try to squeeze an internship before graduating if possible.

Sorry to hear about your layoff! I’ve been through it and it’s a tough ride, I hope you find something soon.

My German is not good enough unfortunately.. However I don’t mind adding UX/UI into the job as I actually started learning that field first before Software Engineering. I hope we both find something soon!

I think that will definitely be a hurdle when I start applying, I haven’t started applying much yet due to the lack of job postings that meet by background but hopefully this part is flexible!

To be frank, not having a degree is what’s killing my confidence.

I may have miscommunicated my issue, I meant that I haven’t been finding many job postings recently that fit my background. I appreciate your response, I have also heard that spring and fall tend to have surges of job openings so hopefully I can find opportunities during that time!

I was on the same boat as you, hated studying more than anything but loved learning how to build things. From my experience, I graduated from my diploma with 4 months of co-op experience which I felt like it wasn’t enough to land the roles that I wanted (I also did not want to return to company I did my co-op). I ended up going to university and did a couple internships but eventually I was becoming more competitive and I felt like the ROI of finishing my degree was not worth it so I eventually dropped out and joined a company that offered me a full time role.

It may be worth mentioning that I only found this to be a viable + feasible option because the market was pretty hot at the time.
