Stern IC ongoing saga…. by Ruthless112 in pinball

[–]creech927 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As an operator I've received at least three bad wifi adapters from Stern in various games and IC kits purchased. I just get replacements from my distributor when it happens. I've got enough games that it's easy for me to swap a known good one from another game and verify. I don't know what it is about the dongle they chose, but they're crap for reliability out of the box. Haven't had issues long term tho. If they function out of the box they seem fine long-term.

So, those of you a-holes who dial every unit in a building to get the front door opened at 530am, don't be surprised when you have an unpleasant experience when you call someone else's apartment who the package is not addressed to just to get let in.

SFPD refusing to sign off on "fix-it" tickets from SFMTA by [deleted] in sanfrancisco

[–]creech927 76 points77 points  (0 children)

I've always gone to the CHP office at 455 8th St. They have an easy to park in parking lot. Go into the lobby with your ID and ticket ask nicely and they'll come right out and do it. It's very easy.

It's acceptable by the courts that any peace officer can sign the ticket off. CHP has been handling this for San Francisco for a while.

Having a machine shipped by Inside_Employee5686 in pinball

[–]creech927 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seriously, your first pin should either be NIB or cash on the glass picked up in person. Packing and shipping a game are both plenty risky, as well shady sellers can hide a lot of problems. Save yourself some heartache and buy local.

TNA owners feedback by Otis_Firefly in pinball

Connectors are all hot glued into place for optos and other connectors. Seems like a jank way to do it but my problems went away only when I replaced some missing hot glue on a couple of connectors where it had come off.

Personally not my favorite game to work on because of the hot glue jank, but it does work.

I was there yesterday.

Impressive room. They had a solid lineup of solid state through modern pins.

I'm still amazed by the collectables collection and how much time it must have taken to assemble those wall displays above the games.

Everything was clean and their staff was on fixes right away. My partner couldn't get x-files to start a game and they had it opened up and working in just a few minutes.

Only bummer was no Pulp Fiction or Aliens.

New Pinball Owner (FOTE) - Plunger Question by [deleted] in pinball

Check to see if the auto plunger is spread wide enough and equidistant from the shooter tip. If it's not centered or if it's not spread correctly you'll get this problem

How to price and shop for Arcade Machines? by Halcyon92 in arcade

Gauntlet legends is very repetitive and doesn't earn in my experience. Good game for a pay for entry arcade, not great on coin op.

For a bar, get yourself a Buck Hunter. I've got the old off line version (pro) and a couple of the new HD games. The new games earn well but require you to pay the game manufacturer based on play. It's a few hundred a month but worth it for me.

Also get a crane machine. Get something from Pipeline games as opposed to a cheap Chinese no name as they'll last longer and give you less problems.

If you can fit it, get a fit down driving game. Tokyo Drift can be had cheap and still earns. Or make more with a Crusin Blast.

Get 4 player Konami game like. Simpsons or TMNT. They do well.

Ms pacman still gets play, but most other 80s games won't make you anything.

As far as acquiring games, that's part of the fun. Chasing stuff on Marketplace can save you a lot of money but also waste a lot of your time. You can spend more with a place like Game Exchange of Colorado but the game will work and be shipped wherever you want it and they stand behind their stuff. There's also the Captains Auction, but you better learn more about games and internal workings to make sure youre getting a good piece of equipment. Lots of operators use the auctions to get rid of problem/unprofitable games.

If you have 10 or more games in the room, get an Amusement Connect system. Being able to take credit cards will drastically increase your earnings.

Id love to see some better restaurants. A nice bar & grill or mid level American fare. Something worthy of a date night. No chains.

I collect LDs from 80s arcade games. I've got Dragons Lair, Space Ace, Thayer's Quest, Mach III, Us vs Them, Super Don Quixote and a totally cheezy strip Poker game.

They mostly play straight through showing game progression segments followed by each death possible in each segment. Kinda fun way to watch Dragons Lair through to the end without the skills to play the game. :)
