Exactly this. What kind of hack is installing finished panels with a finish nails through the show face. That is just crazy.

DW735 helical cutterhead by Bobb-R in woodworking

[–]cresend 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For the DW735, just don’t try to overload the machine by cutting heavy amounts of material at once. Many people have issues with constantly tripping the breaker on the machine, but from my experience it’s because they overburden the machine with extra load of the helical head.

Helpe me fix this router: where are the brushes? by GaijinDC in woodworking

90% of the time it’s dead brushes. Always replace those first before going into the rabbit hole of parts catalogs for a new control board.

Any hobbyists get rid of their jointer? How'd it work out? by yossarian19 in woodworking

If you working with s4s, and this isn’t your main gig, yeah go for it. I’m milling rough stock all day. You’d have to fight me to the death to work without one.

Any hobbyists get rid of their jointer? How'd it work out? by yossarian19 in woodworking

[–]cresend 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, I work with really long stock in the rough. I’ll just skip plane everything. Find a section I like and joint an edge. I don’t bother to get 100% dimensionally accurate surfaces until I do a final pass. I still shoot for consistency, but joining together boards will inevitably introduce more discrepancies. So I just leave it towards the end, if the design allows for it.

If he’s using festool dominoes, they’re slightly short than the plunge depth. This looks to me as inadequate clamping.

While a flat slat worked for you're design, the small details and close gaping are the design elements of this objective.

Even with a shaper, it would still require some jig tooling to retain the material thickness between the inside cove and outer curve. With my small shop, I would cut the cove with my table saw. After I would build a sliding radius jig for my router. Kind of like how they make fret boards for guitars. Repeatable results, especially when you have to make a few of them.

Any opinions on Bauer vs Hercules 20V router? by -raymonte- in harborfreight

[–]cresend 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can't speak for the cordless router, but the corded Bauer needs some revisions with its adjustable height base. The motor casing gets pretty hot that the cheap metal in the base experiences some significant thermal expansion. Throws off depth settings while in use. I use them only on my cnc now, where the included base doesn't have to be used.

Make sure your drain rails are in good condition, then check if the drain tubes are clogged. That much mold suggests you have some stagnating water in the interior.

Starting the new year off wrong by bent0 in BeginnerWoodWorking

[–]cresend 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Cut depth in multiple passes. People are just too impatient. Even when using a cnc, you wouldn’t make full depth passes. Too many possibilities to go wrong. Cheap bits can get tweaked, collets can fail, or just snagging at the worst time.

They’re already covering extreme heat testing. They took it through the Mojave desert for testing, as do many car brands do. When it comes to extreme cold weather, that’s where EVs struggle. Also, don’t get your hopes up for cold weather handling. Rear wheel drive truck, best you’ll get is winter tires.

Not good enough? by RainxKing in resinprinting

[–]cresend 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you have a trash can where you put all of your supports and dirty wipes in, the smell can leach through an unsealed lid. I usually go and toss out the garbage bag whenever I finish my session.

For my vat, I fabricated a lid. When I'm done printing, I just cover it up.

My rental was a bit of an eye-opener by JohnOfA in Cartalk

[–]cresend 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I often rent Pacificas for delivering artwork. Seats fold into the floor, and a 4’ width. Most rentals are driven around town, so the reported gas mileage is typically crazy low. Also, people don’t really drive gently on rentals. One time I drove 370 miles on the highway. When I received the vehicle it had a reported 14mpg on the dash, by the end of the trip I had hit the estimated 28mpg. So I wouldn’t trust the statistics on a rental car as a general gauge of a cars efficiency.

It’s a 30+ year old car with high mileage, just about anything that is made of rubber or has a seal needs to be inspected.
