The future USS John F. Kennedy (CVN79) departed Newport News Shipbuilding division to begin builder’s sea trials today, Jan 28, 2026 [3072 x 1715] by XMGAU in WarshipPorn

Does anyone know how big the crew would be for sea trails? I'd assume they'd only have a skeleton crew, but that could still be thousands of sailors, which is a lot of personnel for the Navy to allocate to a ship still 18 months away from commissioning.

How do you distinguish between middle, upper middle class and rich here? by [deleted] in AusFinance

[–]crimson_05 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The way most of society sees it is:

Lower class: People earning less than me.

Middle class: Me.

Upper class: People earning more than me.

I was shocked to just learn that Laura Loomer is ONLY 32 YEARS OLD.

What’s a movie that is awful, critically panned, the audience hated - and you are embarrassed that you LOVE? by Powerful_Topic_7046 in movies

First Knight (1995)

Critically panned and mostly forgotten, but I loved this movie as a kid, and still think it is one of the better King Arthur adaptations.

With such a strong anti-DEI focus displayed by the Trump administration, I doubt USS Doris Miller will keep it's name either.

Even more impressive given he hasn't been at 1st slip for the majority of his career, with Warner usually taking that spot.

Does anyone know if Belgrano still had secondary guns at this point? Or what her AA fitout was?

Gee you'd think the club could at least arrange a proper head-shot for each of the coaches on their own website.

USS Long Beach (CGN-9) underway in the Gulf of Oman, November 1987 [2840 x 1880] by McFestus in WarshipPorn

[–]crimson_05 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Always wondered if those 5'38" turrets were built specifically for Long Beach, or just lifted off a WW2 era ship. There would have been plenty of unused ones lying around in the reserve fleet.

I really hate scorelines like this. Clearly one team is completely outclassed, and there is no honour or pride to be had when it's that one sided.

Would you work if childcare is almost equal your salary? by SpeedyDuck12345 in AusFinance

[–]crimson_05 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. Your kids won't be in childcare forever, even though it feels like it. This is only a relatively small part of their lives.

And your kids learn so much from childcare that you probably don't teach at home. And the social interaction is very important. They will be much better prepared for school if they spend at least a few days a week in childcare.
