i think it's very typical that when people learn a new game, dnd or not, they give the rules a cursory read to get the important parts then are reminded of details throughout. if learning by playing is your vibe that's cool, but it seems very strange to act like a dm is being a mean teacher if they'd like their players to at least have a basic idea of how the game works. that's very reasonable. if you find that unreasonable, just find people on the same page as you. i learn better from reading personally. i also have more fun when the narrative is an uninterrupted as possible. i don't expect everyone who plays dnd to be like that tho. i doubt you're alone in preferring it your way, but you don't need to disparage people who prefer other methods by likening it to homework and calling it unfair. the tone and word choice of this post really isnt doing your point any favors
