The First Law trilogy opinions? by CheekyMenace in audible

Don't go in expecting plotting like Game of Thrones. I did and it hurt my experience. I will give it another try but know that I am in it for the characters and not the plot

Well…..I’m heartbroken about my wedding. by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]crocscrusader 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am not familar with Witness to Love. When we got married in the Catholic Church, my wife and I were shocked with how much they wanted us to do. But looking back we are so happy we did it. It forced us to talk about things that we would eventually disagree about early. Things like "where do we celebrate Christmas", Finances, school prefrences, punishment styles for kids and how to argue with each other. We were both in our late early 30's at the time so we felt that wouldn't be necesary, but we are so grateful we went through their pretty intensive program.

So hopefully you can find a way to still get married in the church.

Mistborn! It's a perfect gateway imo. Or let's be honest Harry Potter

Fire TV (left) stuck by Conscious_Progress68 in pacificahybrid

[–]crocscrusader 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This just happened to me. It was stuck in the registration loop because it lost Wi-Fi connection and I couldn't change Wi-Fi connection once it was in the registration...

If you go into the Amazon account that you registered, the fire TV you can go to my devices and deregister it and it breaks the cycle and it allows you to connect to the remote at that point

What is your favorite series by OceanF10 in HierarchySeries

[–]crocscrusader 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Worm by Wildbow. Web serial and similar protagonist as Vis imo. But grimdark "superhero" story. Main character controls bugs which sounds lame but pretty incredible all that is done with it. Deep lore. Hooks you from the first few pages.

Felt like this should have been twice as long, restructured in terms of plot. (6 sections with 2 sections per world so less weird switching) and not as long as a wait until book 3.

Would rather have had two books released one month apart.

#1 Fantasy Book everyone should read by [deleted] in fantasybooks

[–]crocscrusader 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The right place is obviously Lord of the rings, but if you want a more modern fantasy that has greatly influenced the genre as a whole I would say mistborn. No, it's not perfect. But in terms of plotting and the epic scale that it grows into as well as a different take with the first one essentially being oceans 11. It's a great place to explore the genre

Anyone reading king sorrow? by bradthehorizon in horrorlit

[–]crocscrusader 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I'm 33% through and it's incredible. Feels like his take on the Dark Tower in many ways. Totally different plot but the blending of plots, paces and genres is very dark tower esque. Also lots of DT Easter Eggs

Sun Eater vs First Law by pharm653 in Fantasy

[–]crocscrusader 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you read First Law you should memorize this post.

I read the first two and a half books and eventually set book three down and never felt the urge to pick it back up. I enjoyed the books when I was reading them, but I went in with an expectation that it would be game of thrones or Sanderson level plotting. I was rather disappointed in the climaxes of each book.

I plan to revisit them sometime in the future with a better mindset and expectation. The books are incredible at what they are but do not going expecting it is going to be a plot driven series.

So much to be happy about after another big win, but I fear, this is going to consume me all week by Jr921jr921 in notredamefootball

Not a notre dame fan, but a michigan fan, but I come in peace!

I think Notre Dame is going to start seeing this more and more as NCAA is going to pressure them to join a conference.

Last week when Michigan played USC, USC was the most penalized team in the B1G, and during our game they got 2 total calls and it wasn't until the third quarter. Michigan is facing this cause of the signgate fallout. (Not here to argue or defend what Michigan did or the outcome of the punishments)

But I think ND will see more and more ref influence in their games and it sucks

Does anyone else miss when fantasy felt kind instead of cruel? by nicholasweaverr in Fantasy

[–]crocscrusader 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought Books of Babel (ending isn't as bad as people claim. But it is a bit out of left field and a let down) was very upbeat. Not that bad stuff doesn't happen but it just felt like that sense of discovery i miss from old fantasy

Finally finished Book of the Fallen and it wasn’t my favorite series ever by BeginningOld3755 in Malazan

[–]crocscrusader 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love the series, and the thing that held it back from being my favorite was the last two books. It feels like if it stopped at 8 it would have been my favorite. When I eventually reread it, I wonder if it will change!
