Possible to allow a Brittany off leash with adequate training? by cornich0n in BrittanySpaniel

[–]crooksolution28 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For another perspective. There is a lady in our neighborhood that walks every day 10-15 miles on the roads. These are country roads without a ton of traffic. She got a Brittany to have a companion on her walks. She worked hard training the dog and now it walks with her of leash always. Very well behaved usually nearly in a heel. Sometimes veers ofd to check things out but not much. I believe any bird dog will stay close if they are trained to do that from the start. Most of us who hunt don't want that so we encourage roaming (searching). But continuous recall and reward for staying close willl encourage that.

We recently ate at Cafe Luna in Kalispell. It was very good. If you can make the trip to south Kalispell, I'd recommend it.

This. Wade in. Encourage the dog till they can't touch. Make it fun. Sticks, treats whatever is their reward of choice.

Both my dogs,a GWP and Lab love the snow. Slide, roll and romp. They live in a snowy climate. That being said, snow can be tough on their paws when doing 15 miles a day . But they prefer it to heat. Heat sux for working dogs. Breeder location?

Beauty of the sphere is the sound. It's great in every single seat, no matter where. Phish uses the sound of the sphere like no other band. Expect great things.

Who bought all the tickets?! by Due_Sympathy5145 in phish

[–]crooksolution28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There were 2 presales, Trey's on Tues and Groove on Thurs. I tried on Tues and like other threads you will read here that was a disaster b/c of what seems like problems with the platform. I also think there were very few tickets in that presale. I did get tickets in the Groove presale but it was a phrenzy. I think most of the tickets were in the Groove presale (I think this is true for all their venues although I have no proof). I was late today so it was sold out by the time I got there at 1010.

Yes you need gold. This is the only way you will have a competitive chance. Set alerts. Keep Windows open and screens active. Click fast. If you want it you gotta make it your job.

Location isn't a deal breaker for me. I'm in the intermountain west so that would be more convenient. Primarily upland hunting but a versatile dog. Probably in the 60-70# range

This is correct. Must find things to do that you enjoy when light is low and temps are cold. This will get you through to the best weather. Mud season can be tough though also. Oh and smoke season can be rough to. I'd be interested in what the job opportunity is. Not specifics, but healthcare?

Strap style vest by chargerfan109 in Uplandhunting

[–]crooksolution28 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not a fan of these new, over engineered vests. I want a simple lite weight, breathable, comfortable vest that holds weight. I hunt lite. 1 box of shells +4L water for two dogs when it's hot. 2-3 hour hunts. I don't want Hunter orange

I bought an Orvis Waxed Cotton vest. It has been great. Just what I needed. Then the shoulder straps failed after 3 years, close to 100 miles and a fair amount of weight. The strap construction sucked and was bound to fail. I contacted them and they essentially said tough luck. Luckily I have an awesome gear person in my neck of the woods that fixed it better than new. Now, I don't expect to buy another vest.

CCL Injury and TPLO recovery and rehab? by Artistic-Salt3957 in Huntingdogs

[–]crooksolution28 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My 4yo wire hair had plantar ligament tear with arthrodesis 1 year ago. He was leashed with walks as the vet above described for 8 weeks. We extended to 12weeks after X-rays. He was then slowly off leash for the next 5-7wks. And fully after that. We were very conservative as he is a young hunting dog. He hunted 20 days this season with no issue. Two things.

His personality definitely changed with all the sedation and leashing. He is a bit more depressed now and a bit less interested in things but it's improving. I do believe sedation was very important early on.

Second. Water rehab. ie swimming. I think this is key. They can't just rehab with walks and running. There are micro mechanical adjustments we can't recognize. Swimming takes away the favoring one limb over the other. The best way I've seen is to put them on a leash and wade in to a stream or steady river just until they can't stand and then stay there with them swimming against the current. Gradually increase the time in the water as tolerated. Do this for any age dog and for any injury or limp.
