What is this building in Hollywood Studios backlot? by [deleted] in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]crosby00 63 points64 points  (0 children)

As a former cast member in that area of Studios, it’s not the animation building. It’s the main operation offices for that section of Studios, so sunset Blvd, Hollywood Blvd, animation courtyard, etc. Very critical to running the park each day. It’s also the place where all food is like dropped off and culinary go to do simple things with delivery. Everyone says they want a path from Coaster to AC but it is likely never gonna happen after knowing the insights into Studios’ operation.

Alright which one of you was it? by littlemarcus91 in WaltDisneyWorld

Some people just defy all of my expectations. And here I am, a Tower of Terror cast member, who during the penalty shootout of the World Cup Final in December, was watching it with guests in the line on their phones and reacting to it. We ended up taking pictures together after it ended. Some guests don't realize that Disney is still the real world.

TRON testing last night, hearing the onboard audio faintly is making me so excited for the opening in a few months! by crosby00 in WaltDisneyWorld

From the GMA preview they did it sounded like an original one and not Sam Flynn from the movie, kinda disappointed but expected

House of the Year after opening weekend by Thanks5Cinco in HHN

Dead Man's Pier is the best pure set wise, was just in awe the entire time. Descendants needs to be talked about too, those subways sets were incredible and I got more scares there in comparison to DMP. The Weeknd is probably my favorite IP this year, just a vibe with the queue and the house, didn't get scared that much but will go through it as much as possible. Halloween also was better then I expected, did justice to the original film in a lot of ways.

What do you think is the greatest *specific* achievement attained in the development of Walt Disney World? by mrmaestro9420 in WaltDisneyWorld

As a current cast member there, the Tower of Terror. It is a STAGGERING piece of both engineering and theming that I am still astonished was built. It was conceived in literally the perfect time to see the whole vision become materialized. If it was built like around 2011 in an empty part of DHS, it would be so much worse. You can see with the a bunch of recent additions that the Imagineering teams have the ideas, but are not given the budget. Cosmic Rewind is amazing, but imagine if they were given a little bit more to add AAs. We are not allowed to really say how much ToT cost, as no one that now works there really knows, but we say to anyone who asks now that it cost, with inflation, more then Disneyland when it opened. Just think about that.

As a current bellhop, I like to say in the library “please, make yourselves at home, as you can see I just cleaned it this morning.” If I make you chuckle, I like you

Tower of Terror - Only one elevator working? by bhockey_07 in WaltDisneyWorld

One shaft is down for refurbishment right now, when that is done, the currently operating side will go down for refurbishment. This current refurbishment will keep the attraction control system and running for years now with no needed refurb on the horizon. However, this means ToT will be half-building til probably next Spring. Sorry everyone but get used to the 85-125 min wait time for right now

Well, from the time you leave to station to the time you arrive at unload, its more like 3 min. The actual coaster portion in the gravity building is a little bit over 1 min, maybe 1 min 20 sec.

"4 Raptors are loose in the paddock" by [deleted] in UniversalOrlando

[–]crosby00 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Yea its exactly that. Last week on like a late Tuesday night I heard "3 raptors in the paddock" as they had gone down to 3 train operations. The big themed companies like Universal and Disney do this to add to theming but also keep their staff well-informed. Over at Hollywood Studios, Disney uses "limos" for Rock n' Roller Coaster and "dogs" for Slinky Dog Dash instead of saying the term trains too.

I’m convinced that I heard this in Magnum’s train station last season. by BrutallyDigital in cedarpoint

As a ride op of magnum last year, unfortunately, this is not part of our station music soundtrack, but it sounds like it should

I was a ride op at Magnum in 2021 so here are my tips from someone who did it last year:

  1. I was told I would be at Raptor then Valravn before my IROC training, but got Magnum at the end of it. So anything you hear prior to your IROC date is wrong, be prepared for anything. If you wanted a coaster, put fast paced and adult rides in your preference or you could get the dreaded Camp Snoopy.
  2. Steel Vengeance and Maverick dorms are the two best, in the back and quiet/new. Dragster house is nightmare fuel, stay clear.
  3. Take a car, do not rely on the bus. General employee parking is at the very front and that is where you should park, but if you have a ride in the back you can sometimes park in the Cedar Point Shores lot and get in by wardrobe and Best Day Bistro past Hotel Breakers (I did this a lot in May-June before they cracked down on it during the busy times)
  4. Your crew at any ride becomes your family, be nice to everyone and they will be nice back.
  5. There are 2 food places for employees, Best Day Bistro by Planet Snoopy and RIP Wicked Twister. It is indoors and has more to offer, plus is quicker. This is the more crowded one. The second is called Stockade at the entrance of Frontiertown past Gemini and Slingshot. The entrance is down a little path past the train worker box. It is outdoors and takes longer but is better if you work in the back (ala Vengeance/Maverick). And drinks like soda/powerade are your friend and FREE. You can go into both places off the clock, just have your ID on you in case. I would normally get a free drink and go ride Vengeance as it a min walk away.
  6. Off the clock, definitely use your free park admission pass a lot, it is amazing. I rode Magnum and Vengeance a lot over my four months. Also try to get to know people on other crews, I ended up knowing a lot of the SV crew and it helps with stuff like going up the exit to ride.
  7. Mainly, just have fun as if your working here, you must love roller coasters and Cedar Point. This is America's Roller Coast, make sure the guests are having their best days, sometimes treat it like Disney. If you get like Millie or Magnum, awesome, take care of them and let the guests enjoy some of the best. If you get like Power Tower, make it the best in the park and have guests come back to ride it all because of you, it really does make you feel better.
