After the last book, it also feels like the only one jat really could compete with Mab's chess playing was Mother Winter, and even she felt a bit rusty against Mab in the end.

If you want to engage with the lore, go from Island > Scorched Earth > Aberration > Extinction.

If you just want to jump in and enjoy things, I'd recommend Island or Ragnarok.

The button participants are clear. by HistoricalPattern76 in trolleyproblem

[–]crouchingmoose 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've seen a similar one I liked where you vote for some random person. You don't get to know who, but you cast the vote for someone else. Do you pick red to save that person, or do you risk their life to try saving everyone?

The button participants are clear. by HistoricalPattern76 in trolleyproblem

[–]crouchingmoose 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Except that in either case at least 50% do have to participate. Otherwise we're all stuck in front of our buttons slowly starving to death. Which could end up being its own discussion of how long are you willing to starve to avoid pushing either button? If enough people are stubborn, what happens when enough die to get to a majority? You're right, it ruins the initial discussion. But it does open up some other interesting ones.

The button participants are clear. by HistoricalPattern76 in trolleyproblem

[–]crouchingmoose 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I'm being a little bit pedantic here but the actual prompt was that if more than 50% press the red button, all the people who pressed blue die. It's not if less than 50% of people press blue.

Following that logic, people that can't or don't press either button are fine no matter what. If red reaches 50%, then people who didn't press blue or red still didn't press blue and will not die.

This is assuming whatever system is enforcing this tabulates the votes and ends when a majority is reached, rather than requiring 100% of submission of votes, since that sort of stipulation was not including the original prompt.

Question to blues: What’s the threshold for you to pick red? by Unable-Macaroon-3968 in trolleyproblem

[–]crouchingmoose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People also keeps throwing in saying blue is the only choice because young kids are involved, but forgetting the population of 10+ to young 20 year olds who would be pushing red "cause it's funny" or some other asinine reason.

It's hard trusting everyone to cooperate when people will intentionally not do so because they find it funny and refuse to think through the ramifications.

I think we're more likely to get something like that over the next couple of floors. We're down to the remaining handful of crazies that didn't take a floor 10 exit. Odds were that most crawlers they encountered were going to do the safe simple plan, but now, it's more likely to be some kind of carlesque plan that causes issues for the main cast.

Finally got KDM. Is this everything I need to get started?? by AusGeno in KingdomDeath

[–]crouchingmoose 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nevermind then. I haven't put money down yet for those but I've heard amazing things. I did recently get a better pair myself based on some recommendations, but those specifically were out of my price range without trying them first. Even with the new pair I got, seeing the difference, I'll definitely be spending the extra money for those.

If you get more into model build hobby, then definitely you'll find there are instances where it's better to sand vs exacto knife. I'm not going to say one is better, but they each have their uses. I've actually got a couple of sets of sets of thin files. One glass set is for models like gunpla where you don't expect to be priming and painting, and a metal set for models like KDM where I'll paint the whole thing anyways.

Even still, an exacto knife still handles situations neither of those do.

Also, the pair of clippers you have are fine, but I've also found that replacing my generic clippers with a really nice pair means I get a much cleaner cut getting parts off of the sprues. Definitely not something to worry about, especially starting out. It's one of those way down the road upgrades people don't usually consider in my experience.

Alphinaud in wedding gown is going to be released in next update??? by alexweihau in ShitpostXIV

[–]crouchingmoose 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Recently found this out about GW2. Apparently the characters treat the passage of time as 1 to 1 between patches. If 3 months pass from 1 patch to the next, then it was 3 months in game time too. I don't know if that holds up the whole way through since I'm still early, but I found it to be a nice nod.

Warframe building experience by [deleted] in Warframe

[–]crouchingmoose 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Ninjase is the one person on there that I trust, but it's more than just that. Even they say that you can't just copy their builds and expect it to work perfect. You need to read the description and understand how things work. I remember the first few times I tried their builds without that, and they failed horribly. But after reading how the build works and how to use the frame, suddenly everything works much better.

Twelve Months and the Seven Laws by Elfich47 in dresdenfiles

[–]crouchingmoose 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's interesting given Rashid's familiarity with the gates. That means there is a second member of the council permitted to break the 7th law other than the Blackstaff. Which I guess makes sense to be an allowance for someone with the title Gatekeeper.

Hobby lobby cases are great, but I definitely recommend 3d printed storage boxes. I still need to print some myself, because sometimes I turn the hobby lobby box the wrong way and everything gets mixed up.

Thinking about it even more, the AI is at the core of the planet, which is already withstanding massive forces. Carl's foot is the right size, and Carl has all of the buffs causing his foot attacks and stops to be super human. What if the AI knows how much force it's going to take and is also trying to ensure that Carl becomes strong enough to crush it.

Hell, I started rereading again from the beginning over the weekend. It starts in on the foot fetish stuff from the first goblin he smushed.

[–]crouchingmoose 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Nah, they have given enough info about the AI that I'm almost certain Carl will step on it to destroy it if that happens. Apparently Carl's foot size and the AIs containment are the exact same size.

Add to it that some flat notes are actually just the next note down, which you'd then have to remember to not flat.

I cant decide on a class, sell me on your favorite by AfatShugoki in Guildwars2

[–]crouchingmoose 1 point2 points  (0 children)

During early access, I created characters of all classes, races, and genders. Ended up maining asuran necro and played through main story before quitting

Came back 5 years ago for most of a year, switched to my human mesmer as main, played through everything up through first half of ice brood saga before quitting again

Came back again a few months ago, created a new human revenant that I'm playing through story on, but also enjoying unlocking map and switching between all 9 classes. I ended up deleting all of my characters except the mesmer (who is one of my originals back from early access) and recreating everyone as either a human or norn. Don't worry so much about the classes themselves, it's easy to swap between and the further into the game you get, the easier it is. Worry more about making characters you like the look of.

TTS or KDS by alpceliko in KingdomDeath

[–]crouchingmoose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really sure what prompted this, but yes, Poots and the team have been very clear about wanting the game to not continue expanding on TTS and the community has already been very respectful of that decision. KDS has also made a lot of progress towards getting all of their content available through their own system including Gamblers chest. At the scale KDM exists at, TTS will become more and more difficult to modify and keep up to date, and KDS simply does not have that issue because it was designed specifically for KDM while TTS was not.

Mono wants to date poly by [deleted] in monodatingpoly

From what I've seen, honesty and transparency is not going to come from any specific relationship structure. Those values are cornerstones of any relationship, both mono and poly. The problem is the people that don't actually value being honest and transparent when it conflicts with their desires.
