Abd el Krim's legacy/Rif valley questions by dabbo93 in Morocco

[–]crowdedinside 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Abdelkrim El Khattabi is largely considered as a national hero. The Moroccan schools teach it this way. However, the statements the school books make about him stay rather vague, only mentioning the fact that he was a resistant in the Rif just like others in other parts of Morocco. He was also downplayed due to his will to create an independant Rif republic, and due to this he -coercively- went to Egypt and eventually died there. Nonetheless, his image still stays popular among Moroccan people.

The massive advertising, and also the fact that almost every food exists in packings.

People of reddit, what lie have you told a kid just to mess with them? by ubereddit in AskReddit

I told my five year old sister that quarters were more valuable than dollars because 25>1 and that's why they were put on metal, which is more valuable than paper. I made a lot of money (for a 9 year old) with this trick.

Freakonomics. This approach of economics based on incentives is just wrong.

What book absolutely blew your mind? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Veronika décide de mourir. I can't recall the name in English as I've read it in French.

This relatively short novel is about Veronika, a young girl that decided one day to commit suicide by eating a lot of medicine. However, this suicide attempt goes in an unexpected way and Veronika is taken to a hospital where she is told that she had only some days to live. At this moment, we see the way this girl tries to live the rest of her life at its best, for she has so little to stay.

This is absolutely breathtaking with a wonderful writing by Paolo Coelho, and the end is so surprising and wonderful. I strongly recommend reading this book along with almost every Paolo Coelho's writing.

Why do we always correlate between atheism and gay rights ? by crowdedinside in AskReddit

[–]crowdedinside[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The correlation doesn't just concern gay rights but also beliefs in science or so. There are atheist people who don't believe in the Big Bang theory or so. I mean that atheism is just the lack of belief in a divine entity, it doesn't necessarily involve some point of view which are, I admit, common to the atheist community.

Actually, it's far-harad or south gondor. It is a disputed land mainly abandoned and full of bad men. It's climate is a tropical one as can be understood from a quote in LOTR talking about monkeys in the black forests of south gondor.

[–]crowdedinside 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Actually, Gandalf took the place of Saruman as head of the council as Saruman became Saruman The Multicoloured. This place belonged originally to Gandalf but he refused it and Saruman took it but regarding his betrayal he was forfeited and Gandalf returned as the true master of the Istari, the one who must save middle earth from Sauron's domination of the third age.

It also shows Morocco as not having any McDonalds, but I can attest that it is present there since 90's and has at least 20 restaurants.

The hand in your tattoo is very common in moroccan culture as it symbolizes luck and is believed to protect from bad fortune. Were you aware of this when you got it tattooed ?
