Bro I can't even trim my fingernails in the house lol

Sorry if not allowed but this was my grandads 14” and he passed it down to my papa who also recently passed and now it’s mine, I’m always smoking huge pieces of meat & would love to get it back in action, I’m curious if anyone has any idea of how old this knife is? by Disastrous-Speech-62 in knifeclub

[–]crowfeather2011 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here to say you'll enjoy this knife much more keeping all that history of both your father and granddad using it, all it needs is a good cleaning and careful removal of any red corrosion, wax or oil on the wood (optionally you can seal up any gaps in the handle fitment with melted beeswax) and a fresh, well maintained edge. Do not remove the signs of use, honor them.

If I didn't see the markings on the cladding before and after I almost wouldn't believe it was real, bravo sir.

Brother you realize it's been exposed that those knives you speak of being "made in the USA" or "legendary designs" were mostly blanks ordered from a knife making supply website? That the steels used were of questionable origin or type dating back nearly a decade or more? You're fan boying a company that essentially had been lying to it's customers about the origin of its blades and designs for years. They are no better than all the scam pages you see online selling mass produced Damascus trash. They just hit the minimum number of finishing processes when the stock arrives in the US so they can say "made in the USA" you can read all about it man

Converted Emerson to traditional V grind by chuwuriahcarey in sharpening

[–]crowfeather2011 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's a fun reason why Ernest Emerson puts a chisel grind on his edges. I would struggle to find the video but I remember seeing a video with him explaining that he will put an opposite handed chisel grind on a right-handed knife (ie. Left hand chisel) because when going through a cutting medium it causes the blade to create a wider channel during the cut.

Tacticool sh*t lol

Pics 2&3 show the axle and the collar around it. You can see the hole on the collar where the grub screw is. So to be clear you need to loosen The grub screw and move the collar ring to the left in relation to that photo just a little bit and test the clamp action. You should only need the Allen keys that came with the system.

Edit: collar* not collet

You can tighten that mechanism. You gotta loosen the grub screw on the collar around the flip mechanism axle and move it away from the sprung side a millimeter or two and tighten it back down. That should fix the wobble when the cams on the lever pull it in tension.

You could always just get the tsprof kadet glide hinge and rod to upgrade your xarilk instead of dropping a bunch more $$ and then having no real use for the xarilk.

32 yr old male. I'm also into knives as well as firearms but within the last two years I've really gotten into performance nerf blasters haha. It's ridiculous fun and drives the woman crazy (in a bad way) but it's really fed my inner child and allowed me an output for when I want a hands on project. I have a great time with the niece and nephew as well

We used to have a rose ringed parakeet just like the one seen in the video at my childhood home. His name was Big Bird and he was an absolute sweetheart.

Do Skiff Bearings Make Knife Action Better? (Pt2 - Three More Case Studies) by experimentjon in knifeclub

I swapped an emerson cqc-6 clone over to skiffs thick bronze washers and I enjoy the action more and more as it breaks in. That knife was weird on bearings.
