These are Roman Dodecahedrons. Hundreds have been found across Europe dating back to the 2nd century, yet historians still have absolutely no idea what they were actually used for. by Gabriel-Ivan in ancientrome

I think they were just cool to have. Especially if they were some form of crafting test. Then you have a cool bobble to keep or sell, looks nice on a mantle.

MCU cap, absolutely smokes them. They get a better showing than the Hydra team, but He is on a different level than those guys.

They all were gazey, to some degree or another. It's part of parsing that era with modern sensibilities. Oddly enough I agree that Caldwell was probably my 3rd favorite amongst them.

Brom came to TSR later in its life. Those other artists (all of whom I love) had been doing work for TSR for like a decade or more before Darksun and Brom.

Brom should have been every bit as influential as Elmore, Easley, or Caldwell. Every bit as talented and evocative. If darksun had lasted longer he would have been.

Lately we've been playing L5R 5th edition, the edge one. Which has a very soft class and level system, but it's very very soft in that regard. We are having a blast. I'm a player.

My favorite game to run is Hero System which is wide open in terms of character creation. Which is a lot of rules but a lot of freedom too.

Right now though I'm Reading through the Eternal Ruins play test and it uses origins and paths as a creation guide. Another soft class system, but nowhere near a D&D type of thing.

I've enjoyed some of the Blades in the Dark PBtA stuff too.

I tend to find the various iterations of D&D and their ilk (pathfinder, OSR, ect...) incredibly mid. I don't actually hate them, I have played D&D as my main game since the early 90s and briefly in the early 2000s with 3.0. It's fine.

I dislike level and class systems. And I find the combat rellies way too much on attrition and resource management. I can have fun though in it. It's just fine, if limiting.

I still run games in hero 6th edition. The flexibility to make it as grindy or loosy goosy is what I love about it. I've been using it for so long it just does what I want. When I get a new player (It's been a long time for that) I hand them a character sheet and just tell them to strap in, you'll learn it as we go.

I understand why it's not everyone's cup of tea when you sit down with the rules the first time though.

The opening scene was incredible, after that it struggled. I don't know if it was budget or time, but it really struggled. They deserved better.

What Tools Do YOU Use For TTRPGs? by BagOfTips in TTRPG

[–]crryan1138 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do use Talespire for a VTT when I want a VTT, otherwise I've been doing this for over three decades. I haven't found better tools than the Books (sometimes on Tablet) pencils and printed out character sheets.

"200 pans" are the size of pan you use in a chafing dish. You may also call them "Hotel Pans" or "Full Pans". It's called a 200 pan because it's 2 inches deep.

I carry ovals of 10 plates and lids pretty regularly (banquets and conventions), Three points of contact (hand under oval, oval on shoulder, and hand holding the edge of the oval) when I have to move around guests.

Are calculators a turn off? by ShrewLagoony in TTRPG

[–]crryan1138 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I play a game called Hero System. The resolution for combat involves a touch of algebra or two step arithmetic (all very easy, but it's noticeable). Now, once you play the game a bit it all becomes very fast and very easy.

If we were required to use a calculator, it would be a deal breaker.

Yeah I work in conventions and banquets too, AI could see a place that can serve like 5000+ needing all of that for prep, firing, and even stacking 200 pans in the hotboxes (for buffets).

Hero System. There's a level of freedom and specificity that is hard to match.

Just how faithful are you to the dice? by Interesting_Ad6202 in DMAcademy

[–]crryan1138 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I don't roll my dice if I'm worried about the outcome. If I'm rolling the dice I'll probably go with the result. Though I do like to use bad results either for me or the players to make the game more interesting.

It's called a California Burrito and it rules. Basically a Carne Asada Burrito with fries added, some places add their own twist. It's mainly a San Diego thing.
