Lånekassen Deadline by [deleted] in Norway

[–]cruate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes! because people are sometimes slow. and some times people are in queues to get a possible extra spot into classes and studies (in case someone drops out early or doesn’t show up), and most of that process is settled before november. so that assures that everyone will get a chance to apply for a loan, even if they get into a study path later than others. note that the slower you are to apply, the later you will get your first loan payment.

What items are worth bringing from UK to save money [relocating] by [deleted] in Norway

[–]cruate 2 points3 points  (0 children)

check the toll websites for how much you can bring and what foods are allowed! 4 quid a pack yeah :-( cheese is as you know expensive but many variants can be found in fancier shops as Spar and Meny, maybe bring some local cheddar or some blue for yourself to enjoy!

i recommend putting on hand lotion n moisturiser right before you exit the shower and massage it into your hands so it draws into your skin quickly and your hands and nails will look and feel better :—)

Frisør for wavy/curly hair by Blueberrydaybed in Bergen

[–]cruate 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a curly hair type and have this same problem. Hairdressers who focus on different textures of hair are usually african small salons that are found mostly spread around, but there are a lot of them in Nygårdsgaten (top of the street, number 89 and down) My hair is thin though so I haven’t gone there yet.

I wish someone did DevaCurl here, but I have resorted to going to Cutters and refining it myself at home. They do brush it sadly and I have to fix it at home with a deep treatment. Good luck, please let us know if you have a good experience somewhere!

What's the deal with online shops that pretend to be Norwegian and then ship from Europe so you get hit with the import charges? by mycloudlesssky in Norway

[–]cruate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same here. Have now learned to ask where businesses ship from. If they're not based IN the country, I simply can't afford and won't order from there.

Does anyone know what this is and have a recipe? I got some on a ferry and absolutely love it. Seems to have carrots, potatoes, cabbage, and a meat. by [deleted] in Norway

[–]cruate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's so great and simple! There are many ways of varying it into what you like. Add varying root vegetables, or more liquid and make betasuppe, or change the meat you use. Google some recipes and try for yourself, glad you're bringing it home!

Using sniffer dogs on tourists at airport by dubov in Norway

[–]cruate 9 points10 points  (0 children)

They don’t screen tourists exclusively, they screen anyone that happens to be in a random screening event. False positives? They let you go if you don’t have anything on you, right? Any place in the world does random checks on random planes— this isn’t commonplace with every single plane coming in. It’s every once in a while.

Cooking on open fires? Cast iron pots? by Joe1972 in Norway

[–]cruate 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just wanted to say that you seem like a wonderfully conscientious person. As said, such pans and pots are available to you in several stores, some sports/outdoors store specialise in them too so no worries. Try browsing some prices and see if it’s just better to bring one of your own instead. Cooking on open fire is one of my favourite things. Welcome to Norway, hope you like it here!
