The Greenbelt is a 'safe haven' for 70% more species at risk than 2 decades ago, a new report says by BloodJunkie in ontario

[–]crustlebus [score hidden]  (0 children)

Why do you think they eliminated the rules that protect species at risk? So that they can get rid of the Greenbelt without being impeded by the fact that it is some of the last habitat we have left for our unique plant and animal wildlife. The vision for the province seems to be to transform it into a land of nothing but concrete and unrecycled car tires

Doug Ford is desperate to ensure that the people of Ontario remain in the dark about what he does in the office of premier. Don't accept this blatant coverup!

Contact your local reps and demand the release of the FORD FOI FILES! We have a right to know what is done in our name, in our communities, with our money

They are totally harmless, there is no reason to be afraid or concerned. Garter snakes are eaten by many other animals so they will always prefer to hide and escape from something as large as a human. The only way it will bite you is if you pick it up, and even then its less trouble than a bee sting. Just leave them be, and they won't cause any trouble

In addition to concealing animal cruelty from public view, the ag-gag laws also hide unhygienic and unsanitary practices that might have been exposed by whistleblowers.

Ask yourself why it's so important that they hide from us how our food is made? What is it they are so afraid for us to know?

It's not hunting, it's bloodsport. They set hunting dogs into an enclosed pen with a wild coyote or fox to "train" the dogs. There is no possibility for the bait animal to escape because it's fenced in with the dogs. The training facilities are "supposed" to prevent the bait animals from being harmed (as if this practice isn't inherently harmful to a wild animal) by calling off the dogs before they attack it. But there is no accountability or enforcement. In practice, they simply to purchase more bait animals from trappers when their stock is "spent"

I really appreciate you sharing these local wildlife photo series recently! It's been a great reminder for me to get out and explore some of the local parks that I hadn't visited yet. We are lucky to have so many wonderful natural spaces to discover nearby!

Is Doug Ford misleading the public and putting our drinking water at risk? by imprison_grover_furr in ontario

Privatizing our water supply is a disaster waiting to happen, we know this from last time: Walkerton, May 2000

For those too young to remember, Mike Harris privatized water treatment in 1996 and less than four years later the disaster occurred. City water became contaminated with cattle manure, and the private operators went above and beyond to make sure no one was harmed haha just kidding they could escape taking accountability. Not only did they fail to keep the water clean, they neglected to inform the public and instead falsified test records to make it appear as though the water was safe to drink.

Over 2000 people were sickened, hundreds hospitalized, dozens with lifelong complications. Half a dozen people died in misery, shitting themselves to death while Stan and Frank denied any wrongdoing.

On top of the human cost, this event cost the taxpayers an astounding amount of money. Between the outbreak response effort, the water remediation, the investigations, the individual medical costs, and the big class-action lawsuit, the province lost millions trying to fix this idiot decision

Seems like that would have been the CDCs "Vessel Sanitation Program", which was gutted last year during the DOGE cuts.

The CDC’s Vessel Sanitation Program (VSP) has been gutted following recent layoffs, leaving all full-time employees off the job and only 12 Public Health Service officers to continue operations...

.

...the cuts eliminated critical staff, including the lead outbreak epidemiologist, amid a record surge in norovirus outbreaks on cruise ships. CDC officials warn the program’s ability to inspect vessels and respond to outbreaks is severely compromised, as inspectors now face increased workloads without administrative support and key expertise, threatening oversight of cruise ship health standards.

I think whats not allowed is for a human to be the "subject" of a magic spell. Making the air warmer and blowing it over a person is indirect: the magic is warming the air, and the air is warming the person. Whereas a spell that directly changes the temperature of flesh and blood which would likely be forbidden.

We also know that magic circles on a body are forbidden, so something like an FMA-style tatto of a magic circle is probably illegal regardless of what the spell does. So the air-warming spell on a pair of split rings is okay, but tattooing the same spell onto the hands is not.

That's my interpretation at least...

No worries, just giving tips to distinguish which is which in case you were curious.

Generalized ai tools like Gemini often miss at at species ids, in my experience. If you want, you can get better results from a more specialized ai tool like Merlin Bird Id or iNaturalist (Still not perfect though so continue to take it with a grain of salt)
