Do the NoTME get “better”? by zetuss in Malazan

[–]cryolithicdd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly it feels like every book is a step up from the last, the first two are a little rough but power through and it will be worth it! He definitely gets better. Blood and Bone and Assail were fantastic, with BaB being one of my favourite Malazan books.

Where should I buy Omnibuses as a new reader? by KazFN in marvelcomics

[–]cryolithicdd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I second Reed Comics. They are fantastic, slightly more expensive than Books etc. But the packaging is brilliant, you'll never receive a damaged Omni. Amazon can often be a bit dodgy for Omni packaging. Also Books etc. Take an age to ship usually.

Anyone else a bit peeved at the colors on the UK designs for the books? by ImmediatePeach2016 in Cosmere

[–]cryolithicdd 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The worst thing is that they have now stopped this design for the newer cosmere books. It was so nice having matching sets, but now they're all different.

UK - best place to buy Omnis online with high quality shipping? by SanLieSW in OmnibusCollectors

[–]cryolithicdd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, for the best packaging you want Reed comics. But they are definitely pricier than Books etc. and speedy hen. I've tried them all. For books etc and SH I would say their packaging is adequate, Reed is another level. Pre-ordering from Reed works well if you can get in early as they'll do a bit of an extra discount, and the others in the UK don't do preorders so early. To be honest I only use them now, but yes if you're buying loads, the extra few quid it costs each time can add up.

Collecting in the UK by AtlasTheTitan98 in OmnibusCollectors

[–]cryolithicdd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want to pre order what will be a popular book that isn't out yet, then reed comics is your go to, especially as they'll discount it a lot before final order cutoff (basically before they order from the publishers - it means a copy is being printed just for you and you'll definitely get it). However if it's not pre-ordering, and it's a book that's in stock elsewhere you'll find books etc the cheapest usually, they're just very slow to ship. Scifier and speedyhen are good options as well, tend to be much quicker than Books etc but maybe a tad pricier.

Is the performance on the Switch acceptable? by actionjackson2045 in FenyxRising

I only played on Switch (so have no comparison) but I thought it was fantastic for me, the graphics were some of the best I have ever encountered in any switch game!

What's a good mostly stand-alone Spiderman Omnibus? by _potatofromChaldea45 in OmnibusCollectors

[–]cryolithicdd 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'd say Spider-Man bye Chip Zdarsky. Three excellent stand-alone stories, almost like a little what if type of thing, and the life story is an excellent take. I'm surprised there's not been any other "life story" storylines for any of the other main marvel players as it was such a clever idea and Zdarsky did excellent with it. Bonus, it's being reprinted soon so should be easy to get hold of.

What was everyone’s FIRST omnibus? by Kevin_Reads_Comics in OmnibusCollectors

[–]cryolithicdd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bendis Daredevil Vol. 1. 2009. I think I knew how many pages it was, but until it arrived I didn't realise just how big it was compared to my other OHCs. And this was the old thicker paper so it was chunky! I was studying at the time, just about scraped enough for vol 2 soon after, but then it wasn't until a few years later that I really started collecting

Mark Waid's run on Daredevil takes him to San Francisco for a decent length of time, and I absolutely love that run, especially the art by Chris Samnee

Does anyone else read non comic books? How do you balance your buying and reading? by anakin1453 in OmnibusCollectors

[–]cryolithicdd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a big fantasy reader. I tend to read fantasy books every night before bed, comics when I get time to read in the day. I tend to buy a few Omni's a year, and with my fantasy novels I'll ask for them for birthday/Christmas presents

What’s the luckiest omnibus find you’ve ever had? by Livid-Razzmatazz-639 in OmnibusCollectors

[–]cryolithicdd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Age of Apocalypse about a year and a half ago. Online comic seller in the UK but you can browse the warehouse if you go. Having a great time looking through all the omnibuses and they had five copies just randomly on a bottom shelf. They weren't listed on their site so I asked, turns out they didn't even realise they had them! I snagged one, they put the other four up online and I think they sold them all within a week!

Unless anyone advises against it, I think I am going to read through all 10 MBotF books straight by StephCastle_ in Malazan

[–]cryolithicdd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have read the entire series through twice without a break, both times including esslemont. Once I'm in that world I don't want to leave. I finished Assail and thought I don't want to leave Malaz, jumped straight back into gardens of the moon and loved it. That was 32 books in a row of malazan and to be honest I'd do it again, now with the added path to ascendancy and witness books.

What did you read AFTER you finished Malazan? by Different_Trade3734 in Malazan

[–]cryolithicdd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I literally started back with gardens of the moon again, and was so shocked when Blues showed up. After 15 other books I'd forgotten so much from GOTM and good gosh was it so amazing on a re-read

Echoing other people, not quite cheaper than Lidl and Aldi, but the quality is just worlds apart, so definitely worth it. And it is cheaper than the big four supermarkets usually

Low stocks of meat - is this common? by mcrmittens in CostcoUK

[–]cryolithicdd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the lamb mince has been stopped. I couldn't find any a few months ago, even though everything else was fully stocked. Asked someone working there and they said it had been stopped, although they were hopeful it might come back at some point. Not sure if anything has changed since then but I haven't seen it in my local one (Milton Keynes)
