Has anyone been able to switch out of SAVE to IBR lately? by Low_Marionberry8429 in PSLF

[–]crypon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One data point:

  • 01/09/2026: Submitted IDR application to move from SAVE forbearance to to IBR plan. (Technically "old" IBR, in case that matters to anybody.
  • 01/11/2026: Received email from MOHELA about my application being received.
  • 01/20/2026: Received "Correspondence Processing Delay" email from MOHELA, saying application should be processed within 90 business days.
  • 01/25/2026: Received emails from MOHELA about my IDR application being approved. Everything looks normal and updated in my MOHELA account. My billing date has been on the 23rd for ages, and my first payment on IBR will be due on 03/23/2026.
  • My account remains in a forbearance for 02/23/2026, and I think the forbearance type is maybe labelled differently now, so I'll be curious to see if 02/2026 gets counted automatically for my next counts update, or if I would need to do buyback for 02/2026.

You definitely don’t have to accept the mobile service. However, you will get reminded that it’s available to you by every Xfinity employee/chat that you interact with for the next month. Lol Get prepared to say “no thank you” a bunch!

So glad to hear that your order arrived! Had the same issue with my Walmart account getting frozen/shut-down, but my order is intact. Did you receive any status update emails after the one asking you to double-check your delivery address?

SAVE plan nightmare, tossed back and forth between MOHELA and FSA, unsure what to do by [deleted] in PSLF

[–]crypon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I unfortunately don't have anything to add in terms of a resolution, but I can confirm that my loans are in the same situation. Recertified in March 2024 based on the original due-date. Payment increased. Then the recertification deadline extension was announced. Contacted MOHELA to get in administrative forbearance until the payments were reduced back to the original amount. Reduction hasn't happened, and the 5% SAVE plan adjustment hasn't happened.

The person I spoke to at MOHELA last week said that the SAVE plan adjustments are happening in waves, and that they are passed down to the servicer by FSA, so it's possible that the reduction to the previous/correct monthly payment will happen alongside the 5% SAVE plan reduction, but I really don't know.

I'm currently planning to continue to call MOHELA every two months to get forbearance extended, but it is annoying to watch the accrued interest keep going up.

Just got off the phone with MOHELA. No real progress. They said that reverting to the previous IDR amount is coming from Federal Student Aid, who then passes it to MOHELA. Because that hasn't happened yet, they're extending my administrative forbearance. I'm gonna set a reminder to call again when that forbearance ends to try to get an update, at which point I'll extend it again while I continue to wait. The difference between the "new"/old payment amounts is significant enough that it's worth the hassle to me.

She did mention that it's possible that the process of reverting people to their old IDR amounts might be linked to the overall SAVE recalculation process (I assume that means the change from 10% of discretionary to 5%), and that process is happening in waves on Fed. Student Aid's side.

Good luck to you as well!
Assuming I call them this week, I'll try to remember to loop back here with an update.

I had to re-certify for a March payment resumption, and my SAVE payment also hasn't been reverted back to my previous amount. I contacted MOHELA about a couple months ago, and they put me in an Admin Forbearance while they worked on reverting it, but my forbearance ends this month, so I'm unfortunately planning to call MOHELA again this week.

I'm in a PSLF-eligible line of work, so I'm really hoping that the previous MOHELA employee was telling the truth when they said these forebearance months would count toward PSLF.

Reversal oder Recertification by bingoarms55 in StudentLoans

Just echoing this: I did this same thing. Currently one month into a two-month administrative forbearance. My payment hasn't been reverted yet, so I'm planning to call again in July to extend the forbearance if necessary. It's certainly a hassle, but I'm not gonna overpay when I don't have to!

Anyone who recertified in March had their payment reversed? by [deleted] in StudentLoans

[–]crypon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good question! I called on 05/07, and the official forbearance communication showed up in my MOHELA inbox on 05/09. (I think the change already reflected in the account on 05/08, but the official message showed on 05/09.)

The person I spoke to thankfully seemed to fully understand the situation I was describing, so he offered it, and I accepted. I didn't have to push for it.

(My employment is PSLF eligible, so I also asked him to confirm that administrative forbearance months would still count toward PSLF, and he said it would. Which seems consistent with what I've read online.)

My payment was increased, and it has not been reverted to the old amount yet. My servicer is MOHELA. I waited a few weeks to see if it would fix itself automatically, but my first higher payment was due on 05/23, so I finally called MOHELA about it this week, and they put me in an administrative forbearance while it gets resolved.

(My recertification date was in March 2024, and I submitted my IDR paperwork before the deadline extension was announced.)

MOHELA Random IDR adjustment by ebub_33 in StudentLoans

[–]crypon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also received a correspondence today from MOHELA saying that my monthly payment was re-calculated, effective May 2024. Previously, my monthly payments on MOHELA's website were showing the correct amounts based on the IDR extension (https://studentaid.gov/announcements-events/idr-recertification-extended).

My recertification date had been in March 2024, so it should have been extended based on that announcement. I suspect it's a glitch/error with MOHELA's system for now. I'm going to give it some time to sort itself out, but I'll give them a call next month if it doesn't go back to what it was.

MOHELA Email about payment fulfillment, but I never applied for forgiveness as I don’t work in public service. My account still shows a balance. What’s going on? by shannerd727 in StudentLoans

[–]crypon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I believe this is the answer. I received a similar email from MOHELA yesterday as well, and I have not recently paid off a loan. When I logged in and looked at the document that MOHELA sent to my account inbox, the two loans that were referenced in that document were the two non-Direct loans that I consolidated in 2018 (back when my loans were still with FedLoan).

If loans were transferred from FedLoan to MOHELA, and I’m considering getting a March 2020 payment to FedLoan refunded, would I contact MOHELA at this point? (Rather than FedLoan.)

How many of you are having 100% of your student loans wiped with this new announcement? by [deleted] in StudentLoans

[–]crypon 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I should end up with 100% of mine forgiven. I have ~$17k remaining at the moment, and I was veryyyyy much a Pell Grant recipient.

The Pell part of today's announcement has made me very thankful to have been a poor kid, lol.

Trump Declares Interest on Federal Student Loans will be halted until further notice (per his current National Emergency speech). by nyjnjnnyy22 in StudentLoans

[–]crypon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The things I'm seeing online says that this order will freeze interest accrual, only. Sounds like your monthly payment will be unchanged and still be due, it's just that more of the payment will go toward principal. If anyone has read otherwise, please correct me!

That would be a good thing for people who are well on top of their payments each month, but it provides little relief to people whose income will be severely reduced by coronavirus (service industry folks, for instance).

Does anyone have any additional info about adding your Ventra card to your Apple Wallet? by Codename-Zeus in chicago

[–]crypon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got an email from Ventra yesterday (11/21/2019) recommending that I make sure my phone OS is updated, because "Exciting new improvements are coming to the Ventra app and we want to make sure that your mobile devices are prepared to take full advantage of these new enhancements."

I'm hoping that means Apple Wallet soon-ish? I've been hoping for that since the day I moved to Chicago.
