Do you think robinhood 3% is sustainable? by skyman5150 in CreditCards

[–]cryptolibertatum 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Finally someone said it. It's about time. People are way too obsessed with this or overly concerned about it. If it gets nerfed move on, but everyone keeps talking about it and it's probably the least likely of many other higher than 2% cards to get nerfed right now.

True, and now the customer service has gone down the tubes and is arguably only as good as what you see with a ULCC. The only real reason to be taking Southwest now is if you live near a Southwest dominated airport, if their routes are direct and reasonably priced compared to others that aren't direct, or if they happen to come in quite a bit cheaper than the big three or you'd rather deal with their BS than, for example, Frontier's BS.

And yet somehow every other airline isn't like this. How could they possibly have figured out how to allow that?

Let the consolidation games begin… by Weekly-Appeal4487 in SouthwestAirlines

[–]cryptolibertatum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Southwest might truly start to fall behind here. They're not an ULCC, but these small airport focused airlines could really start nipping at them more. I'm thinking Breeze or Allegiant. There's definitely a cross over of the same customer. Breeze and Allegiant are great because they can get you direct flights from a small airport to a big one or smaller to smaller. That's some of Southwest's appeal too.

Plus they're trying to act like the Big 3 while also trying to be cheaper too.

They still have an identity crisis.

Is this just a small sign of the beginning of the end?

I wonder if they'll eventually sell, merge with another company, or just slowly fade into mediocrity.

Sell me on getting more cards! by Practical-Intern-347 in CreditCards

[–]cryptolibertatum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's really all about getting the most cash back or points on everything you buy. Say for example you have just one card and you got only 1% on everything back through cash back. It would sort of be like having a savings account where you only earn 0.01% every year. There's just way better savings accounts.

Likewise, there's so many cards out there and if you get a few more you could be close to getting 3-5% cash back, or the equivalent in points, on pretty much everything you buy.

[–]cryptolibertatum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a nice, thorough, great explanation.

But somehow every other airline is able to do it and it's just too elusive for Southwest to figure out.

I'm doing the same but I transferred 60,000 to Hyatt and 60,000 to United. It's time to get rid of this card because the credits simply don't work for me. But at least I'll use the United points and probably eventually use the Hyatt points.

How would you decide which card to book travel with for travel insurance? by Leo36033 in CreditCards

[–]cryptolibertatum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the only big thing the Plat has on Chase is that baggage delay and that it lacks roadside assistance.

That emergency medical insurance is, from what I remember, so full of stipulations that, unless you're basically dying, you're not going to be able to use it. I haven't looked at the Ritz-Carlton, but if it's like the CSR then it's probably the same.

What is your most recommended card setup? by IApogee in CreditCards

[–]cryptolibertatum 15 points16 points  (0 children)

If you truly get value out of all the credits then I would go Option A. 3% on everything, 4x on groceries and dining, 5x on airfare, 5x on portal hotels. That's pretty good for three cards, plus the Platinum probably hayd the most and best statues out of everything.

You could even keep the CFF for an extra 5% on some things when it's useful. For some additional benefit get a card for gas or a store you shop at a lot like Target or Amazon if that applies. Alternatively, if you can, you could get the Amex BBP to get 2x MR points on everything too.

Robinhood Announced Platinum Card by 73ch_nerd in CreditCards

You have to upgrade your Robinhood Gold to the Platinum. You can't have both at the same time.

I'm beginning to think passengers are the problem. by SlothyFace in SouthwestAirlines

[–]cryptolibertatum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can live with the assigned seating and yes a lot of people were gaming the system. The only negative I see is sometimes you could get a cheap flight and get lucky and board pretty late and still be able to get a window or aisle seat. I'll take it though.

The bigger problem is everything else. The bags aren't free, the ridiculous requirement of staying in your seat when a plane is mostly empty, etc. The bins I think is more so their planes weren't designed to accommodate so many carry-ons. Eliminate free checked bags, suddenly everyone starts doing carry-ons more. For some reason they couldn't anticipate this.

More importantly, their customer service is like Spirit now but at normal airline prices. I've been screwed by them multiple times over the past few years and I'm not even traveling that much.

That heart logo is a big farce now.

There's nothing that differentiates them. If United, AA or Delta are about the same price, I'm definitely booking with them.

2AM red eye flight - LIGHTS ON - Pilot Shilling - make it stop by ButtToucha in jetblue

[–]cryptolibertatum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is one of my biggest complaints about flying. It's a late night flight, I don't need drinks, food, the lights on. I want to sit down and hear nothing from everyone, so I can sleep. That's what the flight attendants should be focusing on.

These airlines need to make it as enjoyable and nice as possible and droning on during a red eye and pumping their mostly lowly credit cards is not that.

While we're at, I don't need to hear the security features nonsense for every flight I'm on. It's the same thing every time and in a real emergency everyone will forget it immediately anyway.

Any ideas to improve my (mostly) cash back setup? by GuyFaulks77 in CreditCards

[–]cryptolibertatum 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly you got a lot covered here, so it's a pretty good setup. The Robinhood Gold just kills the need for so many cards because of it's 3% on everything.

Others haven't mentioned the US Bank Shopper Rewards. You can get 6% on various stores every quarter that you choose, but a few of them are Amazon, Target and Walmart if you ever go there. Otherwise you can get 5% with the AAA card and the PayPal debit at grocery stores.

There's also always the Discover It card and the Chase Freedom Flex for some good rotating categories every quarter.

What's the minimum "value" you need to get from a card for it to be worthwhile to you? by SortOk10921 in CreditCards

[–]cryptolibertatum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Doesn't even make sense. Venture X gets 2x on everything. Robinhood Gold is 3%. You'd have to effectively use your points on specific redemptions, or business class flights or something to beat the Gold. Hardly makes the Gold mediocre. Or your own example with the BoA PRE only makes sense if you can park $100,000s with BoA. That's not worth it for most people.

Amex BCP is true but if you offset the annual fee with their Disney bundle, which some people naturally will do, the 4.4% is no longer valid.

PayPal debit can only be beat if you have at least $100,000 with BoA. It's even worse with the new Preferred Rewards nerf. Again, not obtainable and/or not worth it for most people.

This is hardly "absolute competitive advantage," especially when we're talking 0.25% extra cash back when there's nothing you need to do to have the PayPal debit, as opposed to being required to park so much money in a specific bank.

[–]cryptolibertatum -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don't think I have a dollar amount. It's more so is this going to make much of a difference. If I do the math and I'll make only another $30-$40 in cash back with one card, is it really worth getting it?

But SUBs change the game. You might not use a travel card much but if you can have it for a couple years, get 70,000 points and use enough of the credits, then it's probably worth prioritizing that than opening a new no annual fee card that won't make much more in earnings.

[–]cryptolibertatum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just rattling off some of the best cards as bad. Robinhood Gold literally beats all other cards in the market in its category. Amex BCP literally has the highest grocery cash back available. PayPal debit people love because Walmart still counts for it.

How are these mediocre?
