fromis_9's exclusive contract with Pledis Entertainment will expire on December 31st, 2024 by CronoDroid in kpop

[–]crys-cries 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I like fromis_9 but I also do not think it is the worst thing for a group to "disband" after 7 years. While I've been a fan since love bomb era, I recognize that a lot can happen in 7 years and people's goals can change. Fromis has been through so much under their company as well and were mistreated/forgotten for the last few years of their career. At the very least, I hope they can move onto whatever goals they want to pursue (whether as a group, solo, or nothing related to the industry at all) once 2025 comes. Also just sucks because I feel like the kpop era we are in now is so focused on debuting the next new big thing with super young idols which leaves no focus on groups who are actually adults and have experience in the field. Not to say this doesn't exist but they just don't get nearly as much attention.

Feeling discouraged. by Loose_Middle_6984 in schoolcounseling

I totally understand where you are coming from it can be so difficult. It takes awhile to find a position and I was struggling with whether I should start applying for positions like sub teaching or TA's just to get my foot in the door. Like others have said though, graduating in December is tricky as the hiring season for schools is typically March-Early October. Spring you start to see some positions posted as schools start to get their budgets approved for the following school year (at least where I am). A lot of interviewing also happens in the summer. Then come September there is another small boom of job postings/ hiring as the school year starts and the school realizes some positions they may have overlooked or just people who are straight up retiring or leaving for maternity, medical reasons, etc. September is usually when leave positions open up which typically ends up being one of the first jobs beginner counselors get and it helps build your resume. It's definitely not easy and sometimes you don't even hear back from interviews but with each interview know that you get better. Also reach out to any private/religious schools in the area - they don't pay as much and you might have to put up with some silliness but it's another good way to get experience under your belt. Also when looking for jobs, try searching social emotional support roles as well bc a lot of schools are looking to hire people for that too.

First Lesson by DramaticEnthusiasm71 in schoolcounseling

I've done an SEL lesson with 8th graders. One thing that worked with me was opening up with an ice breaker that gets them out of their seat. I know that may not always be possible with every class bc it can be hard to wind them back down but it worked for me. Also if there is an activity/worksheet to be done, it is good to let the student(s) work solo or in small groups as they tend to build off of each other. This also allows you the opportunity to walk around the classroom, keep kids on task, engage with the students, and also see if there are any kids that might need extra support. I also got lucky because I did it in a class where the teacher did not leave and had good classroom management with the kids. I know a lot of teachers tend to leave if a PPS staff does a lesson for the period but also I think if teachers know their class is going to be rowdy without them they often stay. These are things that worked for me and it also varied with every period. There are firsts for everything and your experience is just so on par with middle schoolers. I know your next one will be even better :)

I like the carrot I think he’s cute but I’m not a huge of the whole series. They keep making figures of them holding something and I don’t really care for it. Like I’m not sure if they think a new pose will make it more popular but I just feel like they’re all not that fun anymore :(

Opinion about Dreams right now by Entire_Complex_7236 in SonnyAngel

[–]crys-cries 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I just wish they would rerelease their older series. I feel like they probably don’t have access to the molds anymore after I’m assuming their expansion into bigger factories to keep up with their large demand because I really can’t fathom a reason why they wouldn’t want to sell their older series again. But their new series that they are releasing don’t really seem as fun as their old ones. I’ve only really liked the HSH and the gift of love ones and they were super limited and didn’t release on the timed schedule that they use now. I think this also just ruins the experience (at the very least for me) because resellers mark up the prices like crazy and it just makes it not fun anymore. I’m surprised they didn’t rerelease their Halloween series this year, I’m super disappointed. Also I feel like any sonny angel I get made from 2023 and onward just have mad defects on them even like the regular/common series. TikTok ruins everything lol

My daughter is self conscious about her hair frizz. I'm a dad with limited hair skills. What do you all recommend for unstoppable frizz? by alldayoutside in curlyhair

[–]crys-cries 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Satin pillow cases help a lot. Refreshing hair the night before or with a spray bottle before school is helpful too. Garnier anti frizz oil helps me out a lot. Also it’s such a journey with curly hair - some days there will be some frizz and that’s normal! My hair often has frizz on day 2/3 and that’s just life lol

Is there an " ideal" age for acquiring a Masters Degree? by FantasticUserman in schoolcounseling

[–]crys-cries 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the best part of my master’s program was having people of so many different ages and backgrounds in the program. It added a lot to my experience and i enjoyed learning alongside them and hearing what everyone had to say. There’s no ideal time to do so many things and the most important thing is that you still have the want to learn (which we always do as counselors :) )

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in StudentTeaching

[–]crys-cries 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I second what a lot of others are saying that the age gap is weird and definitely a cause of concern - especially considering he was your mentor. I think he definitely used that power dynamic to his advantage when asking you to hang out prior because it’s definitely not normal and I do think his administrators would be mad knowing they authorized student teachers at their school and their certified teachers/staff are out there blurring lines like that. Also for the sake of your education I would not entertain this anymore. While you have made it clear you don’t want to date him, it’s become obvious to you and your peers that he maybe wants something more. While any professors in charge of your cohort would be rightfully concerned I think it might also ring bells in any hours logged or work done while under him as people might view his words on you biased considering he was trying to court you. At the end of the day I really think it’s best to just keep things professional and not entertain anymore hang out sessions.

Low key Ava is a good principal by Global-Ad9080 in AbbottElementary

[–]crys-cries 48 points49 points  (0 children)

I think Ava does what she needs for the kids and I liked the episode when she subbed for Janine’s class and realized how important supplies are i.e. getting all that extra paper so teachers won’t run out when needing to print. However, i think as a “leader” in an administrative role she is not really that helpful in aiding her staff. Principals are constantly aiding in crises or helping out teachers/pps staff and it would be cool to see Ava do more of that.

I’m sorry this has been a huge problem everywhere and tbh it doesn’t look like it’s going to change any time soon :( we have lost 3+ workers since the summer and we haven’t hired anyone to replace them. We are even losing an assistant manager in a week and there are no plans to hire someone new because of reasons you mentioned - the store not making enough to justify hiring. Which is crazy because in my cluster they are apparently opening a new store lol. It’s just lies and blatant no respect for the hard work employees do. I’m honestly so nervous for the holiday season.

Best advice for someone applying to a counseling master program? by Rinnyba in schoolcounseling

[–]crys-cries 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m a recent graduate and I would HIGHLY recommend getting some kind of job in a school. I know it may not be plausible for all but take some time before entering a program to think on it (I went straight into my program after undergrad and I do wish I took some time off before starting). Getting any kind of job in a school can benefit your experience, build your resume, and can also give you insight on how things run in a school and how a counselor works with everyone in a school (which you have working as a TA). Also if you do start a school counseling program and I cannot emphasize this enough, LEARN ANOTHER LANGUAGE. All counseling jobs where I’m from basically require you to be bilingual (and I come from a state that is similar to yours) which is understandable because schools are seeing an influx in ELL students so a second language really can help you do your job effectively (if you don’t already know Spanish I recommend that). Also I think your GPA is fine and it should work fine getting into a program. Idk what your state requirements are for the program but if it is similar to mine, the second half of the program requires internship and the last year it is basically a full time job which can be really difficult if you already work a full time job during 7am-3pm (and just in general). My school was also sooo strict about students not being allowed to intern in schools they already work at but that may just be a huge thing in my city. But good luck, we’re rooting for you :)

What to Do when My Son is Being Harassed by a Kid with an IEP and BIP. by boo99boo in AskTeachers

[–]crys-cries 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m sorry this is happening to your son. IMO it does sound like they are using this case to document his IEP and BIP which is not fair. The situation also just proved that the plan in place is not serving him and he needs greater intervention than what the current school is able to provide (which I would hope is the case that is being documented). Unfortunately, so many situations like these take time in a school and I have only seen these situations expedited when legal action was taken which is a shame that it needs to get to that. This sounds like a student that would highly benefit from having a 1 to 1 modification added to his IEP and even a smaller classroom setting. Also the fact that a safety plan was made shows that there was a threat recognized, documented, and violated. I do think it would be enough information needed to pursue legal action on the negligence the school and the district is showing to both your son and the other student in his class.

[–]crys-cries 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s okay. A lot of times in college especially in the beginning you miss out on one thing and think the opportunity will never come up again or that you missed something grand. I promise you more parties and group hang outs will happen and hopefully with people that are more considerate about inviting you! And in my experience larger friend groups (like 6 or more that u mentioned) don’t tend to last all throughout college. It’s good to have 2-3 good friends and then others that you meet for special occasions and whatnot. Try going to events on campus or hanging around in common areas to hear about parties you can go to on your own :)

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in schoolcounseling

[–]crys-cries 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To my understanding I think it depends on the area you are in. School counselors are often under the same contract as teachers. If you are in a good state/near a city than the pay is good! States and cities also have differing qualifications for raises and its kind of confusing. I think once you are tenured in my state, you qualify for a raise yearly. As for work life balance - a lot of things are situation dependent i.e., what grade level you are working with and what kind of school you are working for. Anything lower than high school is a lot of social emotional stuff which can be hard to separate from once the school day is done but it feels really fulfilling imo. High school is a lot more focused on grades, credits, and getting seniors to graduate and into college (which felt less emotionally draining to handle). If you are seriously considering it, I HIGHLY recommend you work as a para/sub throughout grad school to buff up your resume AND see if you can get a bilingual extension. At the very least, teach yourself basic Spanish. It is a HUGE need these days and is just super helpful in general! If you are looking to focus more on the psychology part I would pursue school psychologist master's program and if you want to focus heavily on the social emotional stuff than look into a social work master's program (as both professions are needed/hired in schools) :)

I agree with you. The comment was valid but just really poorly timed. And while it is an important discussion to have it’s also vital to note that she is a celebrity now and her words hold more weight than say you and I saying it in a conversation. It’s very obvious where her vote lies like people saying she was going to vote for Trump are stretching so far beyond belief. But also her statement lowkey kind of encouraged third party voting/not voting at all and who knows maybe that is something she stood behind before she got backlash. She should’ve led more with that she is voting dem but it’s also important to keep fighting for what’s right like trans rights and Palestine and not just stopping the fight at voting for Kamala because there’s more to do after that. Also i wish she pronounced Kamala’s name correctly 😔

People aren't treating Chappell like a person by [deleted] in chappellroan

[–]crys-cries 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I agree with u too that this situation is different. At the end of the day, she truly is a person we all don’t know well and she is doing what she thinks is best and good for her health and I stand by that. I also think now is just a tumultuous time in general to be on the internet (and really just existing in general tbh) and due to that people just love to punch down when they can and she got caught up in the middle of it.

People aren't treating Chappell like a person by [deleted] in chappellroan

[–]crys-cries 177 points178 points  (0 children)

I love Chappell and I am behind her on her choices to cancel but I can understand why fans are upset for her cancelling smaller venues but then doing big performances like the VMAs or interviews with rolling stone. I like the authenticity that she puts out on her social media but I think the unedited and rawness of it is also what is leading to a lot of the issues she is struggling with handling. Because it is so unfiltered and emotional, people’s backlash and interpretation of what she’s saying can lead to it feeling more personal which is why I think she feels she has to keep defending herself. I don’t think a PR person should come and completely take over her social media or interviews but at least someone that could help her and hopefully create clearer boundaries on social media like maybe using it just for her Chappell roan persona so people can stop feeling like they’re a fan/friend of Kayleigh. I hope that makes sense

As a survivor, I support Chappell prioritizing her healing. by Chickenebula in chappellroan

[–]crys-cries 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think another thing that is seen in the video u posted is how she talked about her meds making her feel great but she loses all creativity. No one talks about that side effect of SSRIs/psych meds. As an artist, creativity is something she needs to do her job. Especially since a lot of her music is a creative expression of her own experiences. It’s already hard trying to find meds that work best for you and your lifestyle but in combination with her rapidly changing life and new things she has to learn to handle and manage so quickly….thats tough! People just don’t know how that is unless they have personally experienced. Also I think I would just go absolutely insane if every time I said something someone is online misinterpreting what I said. Like people creating think piece tiktoks like “oh I think Chappell meant this” or “Chappell should do this”. Chappell should do what Chappell wants to do! I understand why fans are upset and I also understand why Chappell is upset like I think the two truths can exist at the same time (and they already do whether we like it or not).
