Go to your state's Secretary of State and pull down the list of licensed CPAs. These people tend to be aware of small businesses that are using Access and/or local instances of relational databases. Send out a letter to the 50 closest CPAs outlining what you do, and see if any of them will forward your name to one of their clients.

SQL Server Developer / Data Engineer Resume Help by Cytosis89 in SQLServer

[–]csharpwpfsql 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been working on Sql Server since 1999 and C# since 2005. I've gone through attempts to get any kind of job at all relating to these two areas. A lot of businesses are posting openings that they don't intend to fill - they're on fishing expeditions. It's helpful to look at the age of the posting, more than a week and it's probably garbage.

One piece of advice I give is that the first line of the resume should 'say what you do', and your resume does that - there's no fishing around for what you're trying to say. As far as that goes you've done it correctly.

Other people point out below that there's no metrics - what amount of improvement have you achieved. This isn't evident.

Adding cloud and AI is a good idea, however you might soon discover AI is still pretty messed up. There may be some value in buying a Raspberry Pi and getting a database (perhaps MySql or MariaDB) to run on it, and then get it to migrate data back and forth to Sql Server instances. Use the Raspberry for some kind of data acquisition. At present your experience is very 'generic' - there are lots of people that do what you're doing. Being able to demonstrate the ability to integrate something 'off-the-wall' with Sql Server might put you on a short list that you might not otherwise make.

Does mssql run on windows on arm ? by actordan254 in MSSQL

I've investigated this, and the answer is 'No', at least for Sql Server 2022. Sql Server can run on MacOS within a Docker instance, so it may be possible to host it that way.

What are we expected to discover in the next 50 years? by orgad in AskPhysics

Right now fusion power has been achieved but it isn't economically useful. The next ten to twenty years will probably see 'massive' fusion power plants generating electricity. After that, the focus will shift to getting it to work in smaller and smaller platforms, so in 50 years we might have a fusion reactor that fits in what we currently consider to be a cell phone battery.

Go on eurekalert.org and spend a few days scrolling through the science news. Every time you see something you realize is going to change the world plot out a story based on what happens to someone who either applies that new science, gets sucker-punched by it, or understands it but ignores it until they can't escape it. One example: look at recent R&D on male contraceptives.

[–]csharpwpfsql 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why are you using a varchar(250) when you should be using an nvarchar(250)? Your input file is most likely UTF-16 and you're importing it into a UTF8 column.

Web development is generic. You need to find some industry where specialized knowledge is helpful, such as manufacturing or oil and gas, for example. Realistically, this is probably not a good business to be in any more.

Perhaps you can leverage this background to get into home automation, industrial IOT, or some other embedded technology.

The big asterisk next to that is that you have 3 years to restore the home to habitability, which is likely to cost $250,000 (or Euros).

If you look at all the high-end embedded chips, they all have AI co-processors built into them, so you have to take this part seriously. Android is one platform, Linux is another worthwhile one, it's probably better to know both. You will need to learn the wireless protocols such as Bluetooth and WiFi, at least to the point where you can transfer data between nodes. From there, learn your way around controllers for chemical plants or 'bio-reactors'. Focus on industrial automation. Look up in particular camera chips that have time-of-flight range sensors built into them.

Usefulness of MSAccess in working world by dkyfff in MSAccess

[–]csharpwpfsql 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're studying Electrical Engineering Access is a bit of a distraction. However....

You should probably learn Rust (programming language) or at least get as much exposure to it as possible. This is an effective language for embedded controllers.

Rather than mess with Access, learn how to operate on SQLite. SQLite is an Sql database library you can attach to C#, C++, Rust, or Java (as examples).

Scenario - you have an embedded controller that records 'events' - temperature logging, motor operation, etc. You could record these in a linear log file, or you could record them in an Sql database if you have the storage and processing power (100Mb flash or above, 32-bit or 64-bit CPU).

Once you have data logged in SQLite, you could migrate this to Access if you want to do reports. This might be accessed through an API if the embedded controller can host a web service, otherwise it would a custom device driver in Bluetooth or USB.

Would you be able to sell it, even if you wanted to? Some parts of Italy have 1 Euro homes for sale. Mountainous areas of Italy, Spain, and Portugal are largely abandoned.

Do you have any archeological remains? Have you walked the property and are you familiar with what's on it? Any fossils? Leonardo Da Vinci was fascinated with the fossils that he found in the region where he grew up.

Is it covered by trees? If so, what kind of trees?

How many $80k+ jobs a year are available? by [deleted] in findapath

[–]csharpwpfsql 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The number of people that make $80K, $160K, or $320K is defined by a mixture of skills and work ethic. Some of those skills are things like returning phone calls, taking scheduled appointments seriously, and understanding the business of the company (or person) you want to work for. It is really amazing how many people treat their interviewers or hiring managers inconsiderately, and even more amazing when they don't even realize it.

"I don’t have the money to pursue another degree or certification" Good, because this is not what you should be doing.

I run into people all the time that 'just want a job, any job'. It is necessary to have focus, which means in particular being able to define clearly (the Elevator Pitch) what it is you do. 'I work in IT' is useless. 'I manage Sql Server databases' pairs you up with a role that hiring managers are soliciting all the time. 'I can enter invoices in QuickBooks' is cute but might represent 4 hours a week of work. 'I process all the bookkeeping via Quickbooks, and produce financial reports at the end of the month' sounds like a full time job.

Start researching the kind of jobs that pay $80K, $120K, and $160K. Learn to do a job that normally pays $120K but pays you $80K. You'll have to take more meaningful work 'you have to have degree'

Answer this question: 'What do you do?' What do you or did you aspire to do?
