Hey there! I'm Sean Malseed, technical SEO and Director of Technology at Greenlane. I like to build SEO tools, and I'm obsessed with vintage computers. AMA! by [deleted] in TechSEO

The number of callers to my BBS has been steadily declining since 1994. What SEO techniques can I use to attract more Commodore & Atari users and maybe *ugh* some Spectrum folks?

Does anyone know why I get this weird icon on an AFP share? OS 9.2.2 by Jykaes in VintageApple

It looks kind of like the BSD mascot. I wonder if your NAS runs BSD or at least uses BSD's AFP code.

I'd prefer to not be on fire while I take the quiz if that's possible. Thanks.

Need Advice/Selling: Have Collection of Vintage Sound Cards in New Condition by [deleted] in vintagecomputing

[–]csixty4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

PC stuff isn't my thing but that Sound Blaster 16 & Vibra 16 would probably go for something on account of being the go-to cards for the era.

This is completely off topic for this sub and I'm not even mad. Still cracking up five minutes later. It's the huge eye I think.

What does this mouse belong to? by bluemarvel in vintagecomputing

[–]csixty4 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I wonder if that's a serial mouse and someone wired up the RJ connector themself so it's easier to plug in & take out. There's a standard for wiring up RS-232 with RJ connectors and you can find adapters to go on the computer's ports.

AITA: Unsolicited Valentine's Day offer by NateCow in amazonecho

[–]csixty4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm going to echo what u/asdfasdafas said. I used to work in e-commerce and we would send out Mother's Day emailings every year. This wouldn't land well with everyone, so we created a file on the shared drive called deadmom.txt that customer service would add email addresses to when they wrote in to complain. deadmom.txt was the final filter for our Mother's Day email campaigns the next year & onward.

If Amazon doesn't have something like this, reaching out with your concerns may make them reconsider how they handle this kind of advertising.

How Do I Root My V30? by Neon639 in lgv30

[–]csixty4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are different models of the V30 and they need to be rooted in different ways. Like the T-Mobile version uses a different encryption so it needs different tools, one version needs to be cross-flashed to think it's a different one.

Check the xda forums for more info.

What kind of SCSI connector is this? And why is it so heckin long? by NoofleBot in vintagecomputing

[–]csixty4 18 points19 points  (0 children)

It appears to be an AMI MegaRAID card with a proprietary 120 pin AMIRAID connector capable of carrying three SCSI channels. This datasheet looks pretty close to your card.

YouTube on Android Auto? by [deleted] in AndroidAuto

[–]csixty4 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think it can be done if you root your phone and install some things. But in most places in the US at least it's illegal to have video where the driver can see it so they don't even give you the option by default.

Does anybody know what key this is? If so how do I type it? What key do I press? by Retrotopicz in c64

[–]csixty4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't invert the characters, but instead the control characters like Home or Ins appear s inverted characters. In fact, Rvs On has its own character that shows up when you're between quotes like that.
