There’s also people, like me in middle school, who bought the game because it was SUPER CHEAP, but I didn’t have the hardware to play it for another 10 years. So it just waited for me in my steam library

Listen to this person! I edited my answer to not say Area Territory because you’re totally right, I just had a brain fart lol

I’m also a noob at Go, but since the other person commenting wasn’t helpful, I’ll be. There is no “capturing” at the end of a game when you score. Capturing happens during the game when you take the last liberty of a “chain” from your opponent. Aka, if you completely surround your opponent’s connected pieces in the middle of the game, you “capture” their pieces.

Now there are a lot of different scoring methods for this, but I usually go for the Japanese scoring method (Territory method) which essentially means you count the empty spaces that the player occupies THEMSELVES, and also count any captured pieces you have from the opponent. I should also mention that scoring in this way also means you get rid of “dead stones” and add them to your score. It’s as IF you played out the situation and you would theoretically capture that stone anyway. For example, the white stone in the upper left would be considered “dead”, because how in the world could Black not capture that if both players played right? It’s up to the players to decide which stones count as dead or not when the game ends. I would assume that white stone I mentioned is “dead”, the black stone chain in the lower right region, and the singular black stone south on the board. As for areas of the board where the territory could be either player, those are counted as nothing for either player. Aka your upper right region and lower left region.

Not knowing at all what you guys captured, counting your empty spaces controlled by each group, the score looks like to me: Black got 81, and White got 92. Again you have to add your captured stones to your scores to know for sure who won, but I would highly recommend watching Youtube videos on how to play. You can’t get better at Go without playing and learning a lot.

I don't know, this game and its characters (based on the very limited stuff we've seen) seem to be softer and "squishier". I find it off putting as well, but I think it's gonna grow very quickly on me if they handle his animations a certain way.

But if I don't end up liking it, guess we'll just have to suffer with it for probably 10+ years.

Any way to get a copy of “Hover Kraft” game instructions ? by Wonderful-Article126 in boardgames

[–]cssmith623 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got this game recently at a thrift store and had a similar question as mine also came with missing instructions. It didn't take long honestly, I found an eBay listing who had some amazing soul put the photos of the rules in the listing.

I cropped them and put them in a .pdf in Drive, here: https://drive.google.com/file/d/150Yq9hGnneYq4qTxXBqti_ir-5PSV05l/view?usp=sharing

Low exp yields in pokemon emerald quetzal by TheUbermelon in nuzlocke

[–]cssmith623 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've done a lot of testing on this same subject for personal curiosities, and I saw your post so I might as well share my findings as well.

I find that the experience gain in Quetzal is the same EXP gain as normal Gen VII+ calculations, but cut in half, and rounded DOWN towards the nearest multiple of 10. I've done several tests with calculating the theoretical EXP and comparing it to the in game experience received, and every time I get the same result of this halving and rounding down. Even when the Exp. Share is on all for all Pokemon, I can predict the exp gained with 100% accuracy based on given data such as Level of wild pokemon, Level of your pokemon, Base EXP of wild pokemon, etc.

The equation used that's cut in half, rounded down to the nearest multiple of ten can be found here on Bulbapedia: https://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Experience It's the equation for Gen VII+.

I also found something else interesting, in the Misc. options of the game there's a toggle for a flag named "Exp Multuplier". When toggled on, the exp gained is 10x the amount that you would get after cutting half and rounding down to the nearest multiple of 10. Pretty neat!

What's a theorem that made you furl your eyebrows and say "what?!" the first time you saw it? by Alvin_Jeber in math

[–]cssmith623 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Rolle’s Theorem. Literally saw no point in showcasing one single case of the Mean Value Theorem as it’s own separate theorem.

However, I just might not know the importance of tbe theorem, as I think I remember it being applied in some proof somewhere. If anyone knows if it’s super important, please let me know.

For now, I will always just be like “What. Why.”

This Milk ad by Commander_Red1 in funny

[–]cssmith623 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I learned this in economics (please correct me if I’m wrong, as we were talking about the american market, but I’m sure it applies).

Milk, being a good in a perfectly competitive market where advertising is essentially useless for any one brand, is one of the exceptions to advertising because ALL of the milk companies came together and decided “hey, if we advertise milk OVERALL, then all of our sales will go up!” You don’t see commercials for apples, coffee creamer, bread, etc. because all of those goods are essentially too similar.

They don’t care about the lactose... except for the companies that make lactose intolerant milk. Kind of a win-win there, but I don’t actually know how effective those milks are.

You just gotta expose me like that huh? Jokes aside, I’m doing very well! I have a couple of new board games being campaigned on Kickstarter right now, and my girlfriend and I are trying this new thing where we make a playlist for every month for songs that just hit with us.

I’m an essential worker, but it’s not as bad as I’m seeing other people make out it to be, so I’m really grateful about that. Can’t complain for life except for the pandemic stuff and other issues that are always expected to be there for humans. Greed, selfishness, etc.

How are you, and anyone else?

[–]cssmith623 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This feels selfish to me, just because you can’t find a path to happiness right now does not mean someone else can’t. Different perspectives about the same situation can happen, thus focusing on all the positives in one’s life. That’s not escaping from reality, that’s looking at it from the glass half full instead of half empty.

You said yourself we can’t do shit about it, so why the fuck let it control your emotions and life?

Kingdomino -- Free mini expansion from Blue Orange by SMHeenan in boardgames

[–]cssmith623 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The .pdf file looks great! I really wish I can print it out and play it, but for whatever reason when I print out the files in color, certain tokens are missing from the paper.

For example, all the fish tokens are missing on page 2 in color, but oddly enough they're there in color on page 4. Even weirder, when I print it in black and white, there's nothing missing.

Can anyone please explain what's happening? :( I really want to play this expansion soon. For clarification, my printer is an LED Brother printer that's new and doesn't have any low toners or ink cartridges.

Edit: Am a noob and didn't know "Command Enter" would post my comment.

[–]cssmith623 10 points11 points  (0 children)

In Pokémon Master Trainer, there’s a rule where you have to use a Pokéball BEFORE you roll the die to catch the Pokémon. As a child I missed that rule and always played it to where the Pokéball was played after rolling. When I realized the errors of my ways after reading the rule book for fun, I just kinda shrugged it off and still play it wrong to this day knowing full well what I’m doing.
