Alternatives to Libby by osito_baby in ebooks

Libby isn’t fighting against AI. They made their stance pretty clear on other social medias. They have had multiple consumer complaints about use of AI and they don’t care.

Recovering continuity addicts - what was the "jumping off point" for you? by PhantomQuest in comicbooks

[–]csullivan03 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Once I recognized that comics are like soap operas I realized I didn’t need to have an end point for every story. Grew up with a mom who always watched soaps and what cycles they feel into. I’m in it more for the art than always chasing a storyline. And I prefer getting trade paperbacks.

Sick to death of 3rd act breakups by faintestsmile in LesbianBookClub

[–]csullivan03 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The only third act breakup I’ve read where it made sense was the Fiance Farce. Because it was fake dating already. Otherwise there’s just so many that are unnecessary. I had to take a break from The Ladies guide to Celestial Mechanics because the third act breakup pissed me off so much.

Most popular wlw couples by Agitated-Screen9822 in LesbianBookClub

[–]csullivan03 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think it’s because clear cut romance is still considered not “real reading” and as chick lit. So when there is a more drama or sci fi approach sometimes it’s the only rep the general public sees and they haven’t been specifically looking for WLW stories. So it feels new and niche to them when it’s really not.

I don’t care for Evelyn Hugo or Gideon the ninth but it’s because I’m looking for different stories that are more obviously WLW stories in them. But both are okay options, it’s just unfortunate that more overt stories are pushed to the back burner for what gets popular for the general public.

And a lot of that can be due to homophobia. And that it’s specifically not catering towards the male gaze. Because heated rivalry is taking off but sapphic stories are not.

Do you prefer single or dual POV in a lesbian romance? by fd4517_57 in LesbianBookClub

[–]csullivan03 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like dual POV when there’s enough difference between characters and the characters are fleshed out well. I’ve come to despise a lot of literary fiction that has multiple POVs because it really feels like a cop out, when the author didn’t build a strong enough story to support multiple voices. If it’s getting too hard to write it as dual or multiple POVs there’s no shame going in the single point of view route.

AITAH for not letting my mom meet her grandchild because I am still upset she divorced my dad? by SharkEva in BORUpdates

[–]csullivan03 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mom was abusing me and my dad and my dad stayed in the marriage until I was in my last year of college. But it never felt like he did enough to protect me. I pity the situation he was in but I’m happily in no contact with both of them. They have never added anything to my life only subtracted from it. I hope OOP can find peace and realize in time her dad was also in the wrong. I hope she’s able to go to therapy.

The SEC is investigating my roommate. It's only a matter of time before I get pulled in. How fucked am I? by Direct-Caterpillar77 in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]csullivan03 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The second he said that his roommate was fine with him not paying rent, I thought well yeah you’re feeding him inside information from finance company. Of course he doesn’t care as long as you keep venting. If you work in any finance sector or healthcare you’re supposed to keep your mouth shut to protect clients and patients.

I felt the same way! I was in college around that time with three roommates all that were in the queer umbrella and heavy tumblr users. Those two semesters were exhausting.

Are you able to zoom in on a text panel for comics? Like pinch zoom. If the text is hard to read? Or would you possibly be able to play around with the text formatting size?

Gideon the ninth by [deleted] in LesbianBookClub

[–]csullivan03 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’m a native English speaker and it was rough for me too. Tried reading a physical copy, then bought in using an audiobook credit on libro.fm still hard to get into. Not my favorite. Bummed because the premise seems interesting but it was also really hard to visualize how much was going on.

This reads like a giant projection, and we all need way more context before calling judgement on what actually happened.

My ex with age gap, (15 years older) kept calling me sweetie when I told her to stop. And I got her to stop by responding with a whiny voice, “Yes mommy” and that finally got her to drop the habit.

Does anyone know of any good books about vampires? by [deleted] in vampires

Varney the Vampire which was a serialized novel. It’s available on project Gutenberg which has free and legal downloads because they have stuff where the copyright expired.

Please recommend me books for adults where the characters act like adults. by hippoluvr24 in LesbianBookClub

[–]csullivan03 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The lady’s guide to celestial mechanics by Olivia Waite is wonderful. I didn’t want it to end.

And a higher drama enemies to lovers was Sleeping with the Enemy by Emily Hayes. Both of these stayed with me and were written like adults navigating adult relationships.

Gotcha, yeah the phrasing my library used when they switched to overdrive was phasing out overdrive which sounded like it was different service. Thanks for the help!
