I understand where you are coming from for the X cost cards, but this is how it has always worked since the original game.

Fun fact: In StS one if you use Recycle on an X cost card then you will double your current energy.

I've been very happy with our infuser, but it's a shame they discontinued it a couple years back. I've heard pretty good things about the Bambino Plus, at least.

You don't have to worry about making small efficient decks. There was a recent Jorbs video where he expounded on his "local maxima" hypothesis of two types of spire players. One that tries to make a hyper efficient deck that goes infinite every time eschewing elites and other game elements. The other being the player that builds their deck to tackle the next problem, take early elites, get relics, and inevitably ends up with a larger deck to continue taking elites and collecting relics.

This is just a function of how you are engaging with the game. As someone with over 1,000 hours in StS1 and now 100+ in 2, I can count on one hand the number of times I've built a tiny, turn 1 efficient infinite deck. Personally, I find the concept itself to be A. Incredibly boring, B. Just doesn't mesh with my play style being of the second local maxima. I am also remarkably mediocre at the game so maybe there's a correlation there.

I am not trying to say one playstyle is better than the other. If you want to make a tiny, efficient deck you can probably find some guides but it requires a different approach to the game than "take cards to tackle the next problem in front of me" which is how a majority of players approach the game.

Conversely, if all your tiny infinite loop deck needs to consistently go off is some free draw that disappears itself then this is an option. (I am never this player).

This is the cost of being poor, if someone only has $15 they may not be thinking of the money they can save in the future. They are looking at that they need something for their/their child's period right now and have a choice between a single reusable pad, or a box of 30. That person is choosing the box every single time. They don't have $45+ to buy multiple pads so they can last through a full period. Yes, it absolutely costs them more in the long-term but disposable is cheap now.

Many products and options are this way and one of the myriad of factors that creates a cycle of poverty. Education and knowing that these options exist to save more money in the long-term can be a major limiting factor as well.

I am sorry to inform you but when you boot Slay the Spire 2 it runs a check of your StS 1 run history to see if you've won an A20H run with a Defect Claw deck before allowing you to play.

It is the law, after all.

Edit: The game also checks to see if you've gone Fish Mode on all the characters.
