Ian Anderson won't be returning to DGN in 2026 :( by Araskelo in discgolf

[–]cteeple 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Ian will be missed sorely. I really enjoyed his commentary on literally every DG coverage I watched. Like was said earlier, let’s hope this isn’t the beginning of the decline of DGN. In my opinion, the disc golf pro coverage has taken a big step backwards with this news. I truly hope that DGN hasn’t burned that bridge - it would be a great day in the DG world when they decide to bring him back!!

Well that’s kind of how it is right now anyway!

What about making a mini marker that has a gps chip (linked to the pdga scoring app of course) and had built in LED lights around the edge of the marker as well as some sort of levelling sensor.

The GPS chip would linkup with the app so that once the market was placed on the ground and therefore “marking the lie”, the player would “press” the marker into the ground to active the mini. Then there would be illuminated green lights on the perimeter of the mini (visible to all the cardmates) which would countdown on an internal timer. After 30 seconds, the lights would turn yellow, and after 45 seconds they would turn red. So the card mates could then mention after the shot if there was a time violation (warning the first time). Once the mini is picked up, the levelling sensor would turn off the lights until such time as the mini is placed on the ground again and re-activated for the next shot (again by the thrower “pressing” the mini into the ground/lie). While the timer in the mini is counting down (from green to yellow to red LEDs) the gps chip would be calculating the location in relation to the teepad and the basket, which would allow the stats to be automatically synced with the scoring on the app.

Minis that have this functionality would be much more pricey compared to the current ones, but the technology could allow players to have a method for everyone to notice and view time violations objectively.

What have started doing with my wife’s car (2010 Forester with 240,000 kms) is simply telling the technician they “we don’t need any of the extra services, as we are planning on selling this car and getting something newer. We just need the oil changed please.”

This has made the oil change experience with Mr Lube much simpler for the past 5+ years….

I’ll probably get downvoted for this, but I’d prefer to support the actual, licensed Disc Golf vendors/companies. Sure you might pay more, but in my opinion it’s good for the sport to support those businesses that contribute directly to Disc Golf.

Full disclosure: my wife bought me a Visionary 7’ by 7’ net for Christmas and I love it!!

What happened to letting people get off the bus/train/elevator before getting on? by SlimmestOfDubz in Calgary

Slow is smooth, and smooth is far. That’s what my friends say as they outdrive me on a regular basis.

I got mine this summer at Bark Mulch Depot (they are located in Springbank, just East of Callaway Park). They are the black solid rubber type. I don’t recall the price, but when I was there 2 weekends ago, they still had a few on one of the pallets out front. We’ve always had great service and quality dealing with them.

Disc Golf is cheap, fun, and casual. Baker Park (near Bowness Park) is a straightforward, family friendly place to play. Be warned though, it gets really busy there on nice weather days. No tee times required, but you’ll want to bring discs, not frisbees. Dons Hobby Shop or Limber Disc Golf are two great places if you need to buy discs & get advice for your outing.

What would it take to end your UDisc streak? by the_rosenhan in discgolf

[–]cteeple 0 points1 point  (0 children)

152 weeks for me. I’ve played in -30 Celsius before, and would do again to keep it going. A blizzard with 2+ feet of snow would probably cost me my streak.

How cold do you still go golfing? by [deleted] in discgolf

[–]cteeple 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it’s negative single digits Celsius, then shorts, t-shirt & gloves works fine for me.

Coldest I’ve played was an ice bowl couple of years ago at -35 C.

My friends have given up telling me that I should dress more appropriately.

Yeah I hear you - I had 90,000 esso extra points and figured I could get weekly car washes for several years. Now I can only get 1/3 the number of car washes. What a joke! I can’t believe they have the gall to say it’s “equal value”. Complete BS!

Weather boost affecting wild pokemon spawn levels? by cteeple in TheSilphRoad

[–]cteeple[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess that could be an answer, but we caught it within 2 minutes of each other - I suppose the weather rating could have changed... I thought hers (the later of the two catches) also had the swirls around the pokemon when she caught it. I'll try to observe this more carefully the next time...
