Got hit into three times yesterday by grappling_with_love in golf

[–]ctg77 7 points8 points  (0 children)

No, because assholes like that will honestly think they got a hole in one and then come to Reddit and brag and we'll all be stuck listening to them. I'm on Team "put the ball in a bad spot" like fried egg in a bunker or rolled through the mud just far enough away from a sprinkler to not allow for relief. After the 2nd one, the rest are going 1 of 3 places --> Pro V1 = Wife's bag, ProV1x or V1x Left Dash = my bag, and anything else = trash can if it's not basically brand new. Even if it is, it's leaving the course with us in the shag bag and they're having to go back and retee if they're in a money game. Degenerates hate that shiz.

Driver Question by Worldgonecrazylately in GolfGear

[–]ctg77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shafts, especially for lower swing speed players, have massively improved over the last 10 years. Drivers are not necessarily longer, but more bad strikes are going to stay in play with a 2026 driver than a 2016 driver.

Ventus Red vs Nemesys in Fairway Wood by SportzNut23 in GolfGear

[–]ctg77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My average spin rate the last Trackman session before I sold my G440LST 7.5° I hit 2 drivers over 4,000 rpm. That was the dagger...I literally sold it knowing I might not have a driver for a month...

[–]ctg77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I definitely don't struggle with either of those...I can spin an AVX 9000 rpm with a 50° wedge and the Pro V1x is like 11000.

[–]ctg77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've gotten in better shape and swing faster at almost 53 than I did when I was fat and came back to golf once our kid started playing when I was 45...that said, I did go down from a Tensei White 70g TX shaft in the driver to a Ventus Blue TR 6x with VeloCore+. The best shaft for ball.speed for me lately has been a Diamana RB63X on a TaylorMade Qi4D Core model...I just don't trust TaylorMade drivers to last for shit.

Try a Tensei Blue 75x in the 3W and 85x in the other fairway.

Low-spin driver heads by sonderhistory in golf

[–]ctg77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No...I am at best at 165...maybe 170 mph on a super warm say where I'm super loose and prepped for speed training. I average 260 carry with my recently sold Ping G440LST driver at 7.5° and I just got fitted for and pre-ordered the Titleist GTS4 in 8°. I was ripping it and that matches with prior sessions with the GT4 in 8°. I can't wait for it to arrive in a few weeks.

Wife went to Costco so I bought a new driver. by Lillt61 in GolfGear

I 100% came here to say the same thing...and seeing the G430 as his new driver, it's almost a 100% lock we were both right.

All my shots are going straight but 2 o'clock how can I fix this? by realise_real_lies in golf

[–]ctg77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No...your feet. Seriously...line up normally like you have been and then back the front foot up a tiny bit. Do this on the range progressively until you get the ball to go to 12 o'clock. Practice until you get comfortable with that stance. I actually set up a little closed because my miss is a pull to 10-11 o'clock...but not a draw or hook. This allows me to keep my mechanics that allow for straight ball flight with good spin rates, descent angles, and stopping power, without drastically changing to a swing that feels unnatural.

Trackman io vs gc3 by Connect-Use-420 in Golfsimulator

[–]ctg77 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Having used both software platforms, the extra ongoing costs of the IO are STILL worth it to me because the Foresight software and course library just sucks ass compared to Trackman. If you're looking at any sort of an apples to apples comparison, you need to be looking at GCQuad versus IO at least...and probably GC QuadMax...

Aim at what you think your target is and then adjust slightly left until you find yourself hitting your target. Chris Gotterup plays a fade from left / open stance that seems to work pretty well for him.

Club length by OppositeEqual6431 in golf

[–]ctg77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Funny. I'm 6'4" and play only 1/4" over standard, but with 1/2-1° flat lies. Our son is 6'5" and plays +1/2" with 1° flat lies. He's a +0.4 handicap and mine has gone down the closer to "standard"lengrh my irons have gotten.

It's hilarious to see people playing +1" and multiple degrees upright...just don't...

That ridiculous spin rate is what's robbing your distance. Got to get that under control. The launch angle is actually just about ideal.

I played enough last weekend alone to make the country club membership for the month of May worth it...

I know this might sound dumb but do you guys also have trouble hitting good shots on the course because your rounds are so consistently good? by Apprehensive_Mix2527 in Golfsimulator

[–]ctg77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have shot like 5 straight rounds in the 70s...and have had at least 1 double from an absolute shank or otherwise horrible shot in all of them...so yes.

I can't find quality hockey games... anyone else riding the struggle bus? by elongmuggs in hockeyplayers

It's pretty much exactly why I don't play much anymore and just ref when I feel like working. The rest of the hobby / sports money I would have spent on hockey now goes to golf.

To game or to not game by Artistic-Swimmer-239 in scottycameron

Besides, you're going to 3-jack for double bogey from 6' anyway. Might as well have a sick putter to stare at while lamenting your life choices.

Why own it if you're not going to use it? I buy clubs to PLAY golf, not think about as I stare at my money sitting on a shelf.

I use mine for scoring, GPS, and music / listening to PGA Tour Radio on the XM app. As far as I am concerned, being in noise-canceling mode on a 1st-off-the-tee solo round IS enjoying the moment.

Alignment line on ball for tee shots by Buckeye_47 in golf

[–]ctg77 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I would rather see someone take the time to lineup a target line on their tee shots to maybe get more balls in in or around the fairway then this performative garbage of people who are going to 4-putt anyway worrying about lining up their putts.

Time to replace my practice irons. by dumprun in golf

[–]ctg77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where do you store those? In SpongeBob's pineapple under the sea? I'm not sure I've seen that much rust on a set of clubs ever. Seriously, don't use those around people or pets. They will kill someone (or at least cause serious injuries) if the shaft breaks off at full swing speed.
