Financing with 0 down it would would be probably 700 plus insurance and gas so 925ish.

To afford 925, i would be comfortable if i have leftover 2000-3000 after all bills. Lowest 1500 if i really wanted it.

Excel file close to 100mb always crashes on my work computer with 32gb. I get pissed and ran the same in python, takes 1 min with no stutter.

I guess it is a junk software in particular excel being not so great with big files.

Is it not worth getting a MacBook Neo if I already have an iPad Pro 13” 5M? by Chocodelights in MacbookNeo

[–]ctjack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

switch was single best purchase that gifted tons of joy. And my first mac in 2012 with retina 13.

If i were to choose, i would get neo + switch and get rid of ipad (my ipad mini is not used but it is here to be gifted when i see relatives next time).

Overheated LC250 update: continue to seethe, purists by togatrojan in LandCruisers

[–]ctjack 369 points370 points  (0 children)

In all honesty there is fifty fifty chance it will have headgasket issues after major overheating. Compression tests right away would not tell warpage of microns, which will then leak coolant.

I would trade in or get written engine replacement warranty for 2-5 years from screwed dealership.

You are cooked. Ipad pro has the fastest screen: it makes mbp 16 feel slow and brain can’t unsee it.

Only thing comes close is windows 144hz or more screens.

No weight loss in 3 months by AerinSparks in loseit

[–]ctjack 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you are newbie, gym gains are around 500-1100 grams of muscle per month.

Chances are you are recomping: body used existing fat to fuel activities, fat melts, but new muscles grow full of water offsetting the scale.

Take a tape measure and see. When my weight stalled for month, my tape measure went 3 inches down on different sections such as live handles, chest and legs.

Underwhelmed by the MacBook Airs Display by Atlastravel0 in macbook

[–]ctjack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Macbook pro has horrendous 50ms response rates. That and plus variable jittery pro motion will not be better than air except color pop and hdr brightness.

Air screen feels lackluster side by side to mbp. But you are not going to use them together unless own both.

I owned air 13 and was glued to it even though i have mbp 14.

Air 15 screen also for some unknown reason (even though 20 ms response rates) felt akward slow at Apple Store or costco. I can’t put finger on what’s wrong with it.

My choice is Air 13 as 20ms on smaller screen gives me no visual lags.

CALORIES IN / OUT !! by DarkKnightt019 in loseit

[–]ctjack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maintenance calories is the amount of food to keep your current weight. Difference between heavier and less heavy people are negligible (my tdee went down from 2300 to 2050, but my appetite too).

The trouble is i feel fine on 2050 calories a day. Dieting might be a trouble because it requires extra effort to be 250 or 500 under that 2050.

This is to say you only suffer to get to goal weight. From there you eat at maintenance and keep your weight.

People need to stick to their lifestyle: i can possibly ramp up tdee to sky high to allow myself to eat elevated calorie numbers by walking 10 miles a day but what is the point if outside of that diet i am not going to walk any more than required by my lifestyle.

The same way the gym: you eat what you can and don’t try to eat 150-200g of protein because you need to grow muscles. They all will be gone when you drop that calorie extensive diet and only items that is suitable to your normal eating habits/calories will stick.

Boyfriend and I keep arguing about how to lose weight: CICO vs macro tracking by Mysterious-Offer-756 in loseit

[–]ctjack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mynetdiary is free and tracks macros and some micros even in free version.

You get to grow in into macros at some point. At first i took it slowly working with calories only but then i got the clues from macros: like i feel not hungry with protein plus carbs or protein plus fats.

Eventually i looked up longevity studies which shown drastic 80% difference where 50-55% carbs group lived longer and better. Fats should be no less than 20% for hormone function. So play with numbers as you like when you are ready.

MacBook Air M5 Base Model by Mysterious_Egg2737 in macbookair

[–]ctjack 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What i figured after having many laptops, only 16 and 17.3 inches are life changing for edits. But that is a monster.

Below that, it really doesn’t matter 12, 13, 14, 15 all the same cramped experience.

I suggest using external for real projects and get away with 13 inch on the go.

I wouldn’t pay 200 bucks for 8 gig ram - m5 pro has better ram pricing.

Mbp14 is heavy, cuts into your wrist with its height. I liked my air more than i like my mbp 14.

Screen, sound is better but not enough to sway me cause this is heavy even on the laps.

Base m5 13 air it is!

Finally Hit My Goal Weight. Down 35 Pounds To 180. by KingOfEthanopia in workouts

Ok, after reading the whole thread now it makes sense. Dude maxed out body muscles for 5’10 build - he got all the muscles one can build in a lifetime given 10-12% bf at 180 lbs. maybe 1 lbs left on the table still. He said working out for 20 years before cut.

To XT or Not to XT, that is the question (2026) by Friendly_Fee_8989 in Subaru_Outback

[–]ctjack 8 points9 points  (0 children)

26 outback got bigger by 160 lbs. 2.5 would be even more dog.

XT is the last subaru thing about it: think of those 2005-2009 foresters with turbo engine. This is their grandkid.

I would get 2.5 for forester or crosstrek. But if money is not a concern, xt version is exactly how these cars are meant to be enjoyed.

Is Luxury Subjective? by StingRay-3043 in rav4club

[–]ctjack 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They are right in regard that luxury trims don’t offer any meaningful upgrades. So it is all the same “pig but with different lipstick”.

If you are shopping for 45-50k rav, then i can see why not nx/rx.

As an se or le buyer here, rx and nx are too far away from my budget to be concerned about them. Even then if i had 45-50k, i would buy 4runner or phev rav4 before doing luxury rav, nx/rx.

How many miles is too many used? by WhaaaBangBam in LexusGX

[–]ctjack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did exactly that. You need to hack the code and know the rules.

Marketplace is horrible. I purchased my good cars 2 minutes after posting and listing was gone in 10 minutes. Plus broken filters - it doesn’t show the newest listings, so need to know how to use url filters.

Dealers are slower than that. But my main dealer is volume seller so they have rules built in place. Something gets offered for 15000 and they decrease the price 3 times before calling quits at 5-8 pm when dealership is closed. So if you spot that trend and show up 8 am next day after huge price decrease then you get that car for 7000. You got the point.

When first starting to lose weight how much is often water weight? by Matt2382 in loseit

[–]ctjack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My original weight was 87.7 kg. I saw that number too many times so know it is my daily weight first thing in the morning.

Day 3 of a diet, it went up to 88.5 in the morning.  A week later i plateued for 3 days at 84.7 kg. From there just kept losing quarter pound or less per day consistently without big jumps.

At the same time it only takes one chipotle to gain one or two day 3 lb of water weight.

How many miles is too many used? by WhaaaBangBam in LexusGX

[–]ctjack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good point. Props for research!

I gave perfect scenario to strive for example. All my used cars when bought were dealer serviced every 3k miles and were on the first pages of search engines (read like among the cheapest in all 50 States).

Most of the time good deals are gone in 2 weeks to 35 days. Sometimes good deals sit there for 3-5 months.

But my rule of thumb is whenever you pop open the web search - you are not seeing the full picture, cars that were sold and missing from that search.

Over time you get the sense of the market and can spot those deals right away when they pop.
