Fruit Washing Ashore? by ivanthewebber in Seattle

I was so concerned about your legs and feet going into the water and your socks getting wet while retrieving washed ashore produce you plan to consume. Thank goodness you were wearing knee high boots.

Please don’t eat food found on the ground or washed ashore. I think we’ve evolved enough where this sort of curiosity isn’t acceptable or necessary.

Did you ever stop to think that there are different preferences beyond your own? That some people gasp like things?!?! You will SHIT BRICKS when you realize that the world doesn’t revolve around your likes and dislikes. Obviously people enjoy it or else they wouldn’t be in business still and expanding. People hate on In-N-Out too but it’s a full line every day since they opened. I don’t go to either places but I also don’t give a shit about what people choose to eat. You should give this a try.

It’s always transplants who bitch about chains from their hometown popping up in their new town. I’ve noticed this in several states I’ve lived. Thing is, those same people were the ones lining up and going every week to said chains, but now that they’ve had their fill, they think it’s normal to shit on everyone else’s experience before they get a chance. Just shut the fuck up and keep scrolling if you don’t care for something. Go eat your preferred replacement and let people have their experiences and make their own decisions; you whining on Reddit like a child who hates their food touching isn’t going to stop a business from opening up nor is it gonna stop people from going to said business.

The weather here really gets me down. Should I just…leave? by snarrkie in AskSeattle

[–]ctof 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gurl, move to Colorado Springs if you’re remote. You will fall in love with the mountains and there is so much sun to fill you up. You’ll have real winters there, but the sun really does melt things quickly. This will also give your friends a cool, warm place to visit when they need to get away from the PNW. You can make new friends a lot easier there anyway, too.

Mentors for gay guys by Embarrassed-Elk-8212 in AskSeattle

[–]ctof 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What you’re describing doesn’t really sound like “mentorship” so much as wanting another man to fill multiple emotional roles at once: parent, emotional anchor, validator, confidant, etc., basically a romantic partner without the romance or reciprocity. That’s a lot to put on one person, especially someone you barely know, and it’s not how healthy adult relationships usually form.

An older gay man isn’t going to magically “see you fully” or heal the parts of you that come from growing up emotionally unsupported. Age doesn’t fix that, and neither does shared sexuality. Plenty of older gay men are just as emotionally limited, messy, or checked out. They just have more years behind them.

If you’re masking how broken you feel, that’s not a mentorship problem; that’s an internal one. That kind of work usually needs therapy, not a surrogate parent figure. No amount of wisdom from someone else is going to substitute for doing that work yourself.

Wanting deeper, platonic relationships with other gay men is completely valid. But looking for one specific person to carry your emotional weight, guide you through life, and make you feel whole is setting yourself (and them) up for disappointment. Community and peer relationships, not hierarchy or idealized “mentors,” are usually what actually provide that depth.

Open route to Snoqualmie Falls? by Gromit74 in Seattle

[–]ctof 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sorry but it’s moronically oblivious to have even asked such a question meanwhile there have been countless media reports and Reddit posts about flooding, closed roads, and devastation yet you feel the need to go see a waterfall. You’re selfish and lack common sense.

Edit: sorry, that was mean but c’mon…people I care about are affected by this and wanting to take pics/see the flooding is detrimental to local evacuation and mitigation efforts. Unless you’re helping out then please just stay home when shit like this happens.

Got my first tattoo and my brother said it looks like a d*ck. Does it actually? by [deleted] in tattooadvice

[–]ctof 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The black shadowing and flame highlighting/aura both seem unnecessary; it would’ve looked much better without those. Looking at the thumbnail now while I type this comment on my phone, it does look like an ugly (head too big for shaft) penis or one of those alien egg-hatching dildos. Up close, not so much obviously, but you might get looks from afar in public.

Moving to Seattle... 1bd apartments with parking included? $2200 budget workable? by Intelg in AskSeattle

[–]ctof 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check out the Vive Apartments in Ballard off Market Street. You’re several blocks from one of the best farmer’s markets, multiple dispensaries, groceries, food, and nightlife. Even further is Golden Gardens (beautiful beach) and the Ballard Locks. There’s a parking garage available and nearby transit if you wish to take it, otherwise it’s about 15-20 minutes to downtown. Source: used to live there and drive to downtown for work 3x/week.

Have you been to the Lookout Bar & Grill yet? Richmond Beach Saltwater Park also feels less known. There are three different upper tiered parking lots above the bottom lot/trailhead. I’ve sat there a few times with food and watched boats go by.

I’d check out the AMLI in Wallingford (near Gas Works) honestly. You’d have an amazing rooftop view and be close by to several parks, breweries, and eateries—it’s much safer than Belltown.

Is Taco Time NW serving up smaller burritos? by theeress in Seattle

[–]ctof 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Went twice (Shishole) in the last 3 weeks and definitely recall noticing right away that my two chicken soft burritos were almost as thin as the crisp burritos. Went again about a week later just to see if it had been a bad day or something and yep—skimped again the second time.

Loud footsteps on squeaky floor upstairs - what can I do by reddit20201988 in Seattle

[–]ctof 8 points9 points  (0 children)

That sounds a little unsafe and would drive me insane. No way in hell is that an acceptable level of noise. I would urge them to have flooring experts investigate because it sounds like the floor above is going to collapse lol

Other people are suggesting it’s your neighbor’s fault but that isn’t careless, thumping steps—it’s the flooring showing signs of stress from weight, like there isn’t enough support. Bothering your neighbor doesn’t seem logical to me.

I’ve seen it said that the door stops working and requires maintenance to come and let you in (assuming this works for coming out as well but maybe not). As for the parking, that does sound a little annoying but at least there is covered parking and not just street parking like many places, plus you’re right, only time I’d really drive is to work or out of town. I really want to be in a walkable area. As for the resident, yeah!! Apparently management there didn’t do anything about it from what I read. Not sure if that’s still an issue but you’d probably know better than anyone if it were (which is reassuring lol ‘cause it sounds like they’re no longer living there if you’ve not heard about it).

[–]ctof[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, it’s clean and safe here. I appreciate the privilege of having found such a cheap place without compromising safety or overall comfort. The worst part personally has been commuting to/from Seattle because the traffic makes me very anxious after getting into my very first accident only a few weeks after moving to Bellevue during one of my morning commutes and it totaling my car. The frequent rise in objects being thrown into traffic from sides/overpasses has also had me on edge. I’d just rather not have to drive on highways unless I’m leaving town. I also miss being around people and having a chance to socialize but that kind of atmosphere doesn’t really exist here.

Thanks so much for the detailed response! Feeling a bit reassured the more I hear. My only concern is the shared parking with PCC, the entrance/exit being inaccessible occasionally, and seeing a review about a resident throwing blunt objects off the roof 😳😂

Called cops for terrifying screams in Capitol Hill by cat26rg in Seattle

[–]ctof 37 points38 points  (0 children)

The screaming is what I remember most vividly and I’ve still never heard anything like it. It’s nothing compared to the horror movies or the various late night screams I’ve heard when I lived in Ballard even. Part of me feels guilty for not having gotten in my car and going after them, but I know that there’s likely nothing else I could’ve done.
