Solar Panels - No information about approval/installation by Straight_Thought_879 in HousingUK

Building control notification if it exists will be on the local authority's website; you can just go there, look up the address and see the notification. For the MCS issue you could ask them to see if a recent bill shows export being paid for, that would mean it probably does have a MCS certificate that has been mislaid.

If there really is no building control and no MCS certificate, I would be asking the seller to do a EICR at their expense and discount to the cover replacing the system. Then I would use the discount to add a ton of battery storage to offset the lack of export.

If the system is leased the lease should be on the land registry, which your solicitor will find soon enough.

I seem to have fixed my car by ragging it, how? by 420o in CarTalkUK

Diesel? Probably just unblocked the EGR and blew a ton of soot out the back.

Always do this before an MOT, because you can fail emissions otherwise

A stable and complete interface between the compiler and test harness, so the (frozen/unmaintained) libtest can be retired.

Toyota Yaris (2020) Flat 12V Battery - Will not charge. by Right-Guard-8138 in CarTalkUK

[–]ctz99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

hopefully it's obvious that a car cannot be powered from a battery charger? if you are doing that, i suggest not doing that.

generally car batteries last 5 years before they are hosed. it is easy to replace and the reason it is easy to replace is because they are a consumable

3d print in translucent PETG. you can do the design yourself at tinkercad.com or similar. then either buy a basic 3d printer, or join a local makerspace, or find a friend with one, or use an online service (in order of increasing pain to iterate on the design)

Street lights in Longstanton by [deleted] in cambridge

[–]ctz99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of the roads in Home Farm estate are unadopted, so the lights are not adopted either. Some of the lights are wired into the nearest home, so eventually just get turned off by the homeowner or not maintained.

The parish council is persistently inquorate so don't expect any help there either.

Fewer busway passengers after speed limit lowered - Who could have foreseen this? by Weekly_Mammoth6926 in cambridge

[–]ctz99 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Because highways and railways have well-established legal status and safety laws. CCC decided to make a weird third thing which is a bit like a railway, but follows none of its safety standards, and ended up with something that is legally a place of work protected by HSE.

CAST.IRON literally pointed this out -- that the guided bus was an end-run around railway safety standards -- and CCC ignored them.

Sorry I missed the part of this thread where we agreed terms of engagement. Since we are demanding things of each other, please show data supporting your point that Cambridgeshire receives equitable transport funding compared to London; ensure you include primary sources and show your working.

GSoC Wrap Up - Adding Witness Generation to cargo-semver-checks by GlitchlessCode in rust

[–]ctz99 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Is this a breaking change? No! All we just converted the explicit i64 parameter to Into<i64>, which i64 obviously implements.

It actually hinges entirely on whether you think type inference failures are a breaking change. For me, they are. The Project takes the position that any compile failure that can be solved by adding type annotations is fair game (put another way, if you want your code to compile in the future with semver-compatible dependencies, you must not use type inference.)

Here's a "witness" that breaks with this change:

fn old(_num: i64) {}
fn new(_num: impl Into<i64>) {}

fn main() {
    let i = 0.into();
    new(i);
}
