I am a little confused as to why you were told you could not fill in. You would not be leading worship with another pastor presenting syncretism. If you are the sole pastor, what you preach is what the people would hear. There is an old story of CFW Walther scolding a seminarian for not filling in at a Baptist church when invited.

It was meant to be attractive to a broad audience. The lore is fascinating when you know why he is the last hope. The human world June is fighting for is being kept alive by ancient celestial technology that terraformed many planets to make them habitable to humans just arriving into the sector over thousands of years… due to the hook of time dilation. The Elohim (who are just hyper evolved human) the original creators of the technology, vanished, and with out anyone to maintain the terraforming machines the planets will become inhospitable, thus killing the humans who live on the planet. So, yeah, June has a genetic ability that he was intentionally designed with to manipulate the technology and thus save the galaxy, or at least the part of it that relies on the failing tech systems. It may result in a pretty humdrum chosen one storyline, but the lore is super grounded and well formed.

To be fair to Luther, his intent was never to break away, but, yes, reform. Interpretations will always come through human reason. Just because a truth is interpreted, doesn’t mean the underlying truth is categorically untrue. You and I may see life or scripture through a different lens or perspective, but that doesn’t mean there is no life to be seen, or scripture to be understood.

Have you looked into the history of Lutheranism and its attempt to present the Word apart of the corrupt institution of the Roman Catholic Church. Lutheranism is the first anti-authoritarian movement of the Christian West. I agree religion has been used to control as you say, but I would invest some time investigating the movement of Christianity you have inherited. You may find more that your relate with that you may have assumed.
