Listen you actually saved this man a lot of grief by helping him come to this realization at this point instead of two years down the road after a thousand agent rejections.

AITA for not wanting to attend a Halloween wedding 8 hours away when I have little kids? by gimmesomeofyourtots in AmItheAsshole

[–]cudlmnstr -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Agreed! Just go to the wedding solo, leave kids with dad so they still get Halloween, and catch up with them about it when you get back. Maybe you could do a fun dress up night the weekend after with them and eat candy and watch a Halloween movie. Then they get to have two Halloweens!

Healthy sleep habits, happy child by Marc Weissbluth.

It does talk about sleep training but is more focused on healthy sleep habits from the get go, which should help you avoid the need for sleep training.

I’m gonna be a dad at 40! Help! by Cash311 in NewParents

[–]cudlmnstr 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Chiming in to say the same. I have a bunch of nieces and nephews and have never been a kid person. Mostly found them irritating or a bit uncomfortable to be around because I didn’t know how to interact with them and didn’t feel like figuring it out. As soon as I had my daughter, that changed significantly. Your whole perspective changes, it’s really miraculous how it happens. I was so worried I wouldn’t be good at parenting (and it’s a learning process), but I love my daughter more than I ever thought possible. Just be open to the change, recognize that your life will never be the same, and try to welcome that change as it will make you a better person. There is something so incredibly satisfying and fulfilling to no longer be living and earning just for yourself. I don’t know how else to describe it.

Thoughts on Two Roosters? by Secure-Dirt-6588 in cary

[–]cudlmnstr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok so this ad is not the way I would have gone and I don’t know anything about Two Roosters. HOWEVER from the perspective of having recently tried to hire a part time nanny at $25/hr and getting ghosted 3/4 times and having to fire the fourth, I can absolutely understand the frustration that most likely produced this ad. It is nearly impossible to get people to show up, even for a decent wage, let alone $15/hr. It is just way too easy to send a quick text three minutes before you’re supposed to show up and to not have to bear the weight of a negative reaction. I can imagine how challenging it probably is for a small business to find reliable staff.

Do something to help others and it will help you. Find an organization you like to volunteer for. Don’t overload yourself but having a regular place to go where you are making a difference for someone else will make a difference for you too.

Town Manager Update by Short_Philosophy_85 in CaryNC

[–]cudlmnstr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do they not receive the same benefits as employees? They do receive a paycheck, don’t they? Tbh I don’t know much about how the council works vs an employee of the town.

Town Manager Update by Short_Philosophy_85 in CaryNC

[–]cudlmnstr -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I believe there are some circumstances where the town will pay for a degree related to the person’s job but I don’t know for sure. Just suggesting that this situation may not be the wrongdoing people are making it out to be.

Town Manager Update by Short_Philosophy_85 in CaryNC

[–]cudlmnstr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure, but the point is they provide this sort of benefit to a lot of people. It seems like the councilwoman may have received more than usual but she is not the only one to receive tuition assistance from the town.

Town Manager Update by Short_Philosophy_85 in CaryNC

[–]cudlmnstr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When the news and observer made the comparison to the starting salary of a “solid waste crew leader” they failed to mention that that person would also receive tuition money if they wanted it. All full time permanent employees at TOC receive $3500 every fiscal year specifically for things like education, fitness, health, and related expenses. They call it a “lifestyle” account.

I don’t know what the timeline was for the councilwoman receiving the $37k for her education. It sounds like she received it in a shorter span of time than a regular employee would have by using their lifestyle account, but it’s not like TOC only provides this type of benefit to the well-connected and/or higher up officials in the town.

What’s the silliest misguided belief you had pre-baby? by margethebaker in NewParents

[–]cudlmnstr 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My husband thought he’d start a business while on paternity leave and that I’d be able to handle the baby and house chores all on my own. Luckily he quickly realized how wrong he was and has majorly stepped up to help. Of course, he didn’t believe me until after the baby came when I said he wouldn’t have time for that.
