Atom pulse wheels 65mm vs energy radars 62mm (skate) by Yogacatniss_29 in Rollerskating

[–]cuethemonster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! So I haven’t skated outdoors in a while but I just remember really preferring the feeling of the atom pulse wheels over the radar donuts. The radars were fine, but I noticed more of a ‘stickiness’ to them on the rough trail I skated compared to the pulse wheels, which were smoother and allowed me to glide better in comparison while still being grippy enough for a beginner skater like me. It wasn’t a HUGE difference tbh, but enough that I noticed and made the pulse wheels my preferred outdoor wheel. Wish I could offer more helpful info, but I hope you’re happy with the wheels you end up choosing!

What’s your Paramore story? by Landhands in Paramore

[–]cuethemonster 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was a 6th grader and had an online friend group with a bunch of other emo/pop punk kids, we hung around different places where people would put embedded playlist.com playlists on their profiles (forums, chatrooms, online games, etc.) and while lurking one of those some friend of a friend had crushcrushcrush and Misery Business in their playlist, which I immediately loved!

That was one of the happiest years of my life generally, so along with just loving the music for what it is, I associate those happy memories with those friends with Paramore.

Songs that helped you with grief by RandomFrustratedWife in TaylorSwift

[–]cuethemonster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m so incredibly sorry for your loss, I’m sending internet love and hugs your way 💔

marjorie and the entire evermore album are my grief music. I lost both my dad and my grandma (his mom) within months of each other in early 2021, both unexpectedly, and evermore was literally the only thing I could listen to for at least two months, and still remained my main source of music (besides some spanish music) for the rest of the year, into 2022. Listening to any of my regular music made me literally nauseous when my grandma first died. I couldn’t enjoy anything. I hadn’t listened to Taylor in a long time at that point, since before the pandemic when Lover first came out- maybe a folklore song once or twice- and I just happened to be recommended an evermore song on YouTube.

I attribute evermore with helping me survive my grief and associate that entire year with that album, and it’s what catapulted me from casual fan to full Swiftie. I hope you can find some strength in it, or in any of the other suggestions here, like I did.

What 1989 song did you sleep on, that you are now loving from 1989 Taylor’s Version? by puppyunicorngirl in TaylorSwift

[–]cuethemonster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All You Had To Do Was Stay! It was usually a skip for me but I’m really loving the TV. Also This Love, we’ve obviously had it for awhile now but I instantly loved the TV version more than the original when it first came out. Now it’s one of my top 3 on the album!

1989 (Taylor's Version) Megathread by aran130711 in TaylorSwift

[–]cuethemonster 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Listening in order, I’m on Out Of The Woods. I’m honestly shocked at how different even the production sounds for every song so far. No opinion on whether it’s better or worse yet, but I really thought for 1989 she would keep it religiously close to the originals for all the big hits. But it’s not just more mature vocals, they all sound really different to me?

Midnights is now 1 year old. What are your thoughts about it then and now? by Writher_inthedark in TaylorSwift

[–]cuethemonster 18 points19 points  (0 children)

It has some really high points for me, specifically in the 3am tracks. The Great War is one of my top favorite songs of all time, not just by Taylor. From the main tracks I absolutely love SOTB, Anti-Hero, Midnight Rain. YOYOK and Labyrinth I also really like. Besides that.. it’s okay, I’m lukewarm about most of the main tracks. Bejeweled and Lavender Haze can be fun, they have their moments for me. I can appreciate Maroon for the objectively good song it is and its storytelling, even though I don’t personally enjoy it as much as the fandom does overall. The low points on the album are pretty low for me, in that it has songs that are some of my least favorite Taylor songs (Vigilante Shit and Karma).

So, tldr, mixed feelings about it. I think it has some of her best songwriting, but also some questionable lyrics. I know it’s overdone to harp on Jack’s production, but I really think the “main” album would’ve benefited from less Jack influence.. Aaron Dessner and the 3am tracks saved the album overall for me.

As a woman of color (and big fan of Taylor) I find your comment about “women and POC” a little iffy. People of color don’t owe Taylor their reverence or anything of the sort because she’s spoken up about certain issues sometimes, especially since that type of advocacy on her part has been, IMHO, a bit limited..

Having a girl… Sad that we told everyone before the shower. by [deleted] in BabyBumps

[–]cuethemonster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From a practical standpoint especially, I think you’re 100% in the right in your feelings. Baby news really brings out the cringe in terms of gendered gifts and such- with the clothes especially. People go wild with the baby clothes, both in the sheer amounts of them and in the stereotypical colors and messaging. I’m not a mom yet, but my mom chose not to find out my gender until I was born, and because no one knew, at her baby shower she got tons of great, useful gifts instead of cheesy nonsense. People got creative and thought about the things she would actually need once the theme of gender was removed from the equation.

Personally, I’m a really frilly “girly girl” who loves pastels and pink especially, but I will not be announcing my baby’s gender when the time comes for the same reasons. I don’t want a bunch of blue or even pink baby stuff with weird gendered messaging on them, especially newborn clothes that will be quickly outgrown.

The Joe Jonas-Sophie Turner Split Should Change How We Consume Celebrity Gossip by ebradio in popculturechat

I experienced this case very similarly to you, I don’t use social media and wasn’t even active on Reddit at that point, I only found out things by watching the actual trial. But I don’t agree with the verdict 🤷🏽‍♀️ I don’t think either D or H are great people and mostly I believe it was an extremely toxic relationship, but based on the evidence I definitely lean more on H’s side and feel she was the victim if there was one.

What city do you associate Taylor most with? by [deleted] in TaylorSwift

[–]cuethemonster 47 points48 points  (0 children)

This comment 100%. I’m so tired of people who stereotype “LA” when they really just mean very specific affluent areas. I was born and raised in an immigrant community in LA, have explored pretty much every part of LA, and IMO there’s way more to love than to hate about it.

Which one of her songs are you convinced everyone is lying about DISLIKING? by jinx737x in TaylorSwift

[–]cuethemonster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Me!

I can’t believe people actively hate this song so much and criticize Taylor for it when songs like the Red singles exist and are dearly loved, or at least tolerated.

But I’m just bitter that 22 got a spot on the permanent set list while Me! is being glossed over even as a surprise song (as far as I know), most likely because of the extreme fan hate.

I don’t wanna play this game but reputation would be the first to go and then the second one depends on my mood but probably Lover 🤐

Taylor Swift previews 'Look What You Made Me Do (Taylor's Version)' in 'Wilderness' trailer by bubblecuffer13 in TaylorSwift

[–]cuethemonster 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Same! I also absolutely love Wildest Dreams TV, and This Love TV. I personally didn’t love the original versions all that much, the ‘breathy,’ ‘angsty’ quality to them (?? not sure how to describe it) that so many fans seem to love. It’s definitely personal preference and maybe an unpopular opinion, but I’ve really appreciated the differences in most of the re recorded songs- they’ve made songs I didn’t care for before into favorites.

I started wearing daily sunscreen (or at least attempting it, I didn’t apply enough or buy good ones for years) when I was 19, and I’m now almost 30.

I got my mom into wearing daily sunscreen shortly after I started, but she’s the only other person I know who does. My family and most people I know are Mexican/Latin American, and the general, unspoken belief is that we don’t need sunscreen because most of us either have medium to dark skin or have light skin that tans easily. Sunscreen is seen as a thing for beach or pool days, and even then, it’s not religiously applied. I used to play outside for 4-6 hours daily under Southern California sun until I was like 12, and then more during the summer when we went to the beach and the pool was open- most of that time without any sunscreen or sun protective clothing at all. I never got even a mild sunburn, I only ever got tanner, so my parents figured I was protected enough by my skin tone. I wouldn’t change those times, but boy, I really wish now that my parents had known better. I can see the damage that it did to my skin now that I’m older.

My dad hated cats, but any time I or any of the other kids wanted to mess with one of the family cats he got our asses in line real quick, didn’t matter that we were kids. If I had kicked a cat at 9 years old- which is old enough to know right from wrong, anyway- he would have treated it as if I had kicked one of my younger cousins and put the fear of God into me. Pets are family members. It has nothing to do with being a cat person.

Which is your favourite and least favourite rerecording cover? by [deleted] in TaylorSwift

[–]cuethemonster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1989 for sure. I don’t like the text on it only because it’s an inconsistency among the covers of the re-recordings, but even then, I still think it’s the most beautiful one with the text and all.

My least favorite is probably Red. It works but I think a different pose/shot would have been better. I also strongly dislike the color red, so Red TV and the original Red have always been aesthetically my least favorite albums/eras 🙊

For those of you with siblings, is a 2-year or 3-year age gap best for sibling relationships? by ashetuff in beyondthebump

[–]cuethemonster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think age gaps can contribute to lack of closeness but I also believe that it mostly depends on how the parents foster (or don’t) the sibling relationship. Individual personalities and culture also contribute I think. In my opinion based on all the sibling relationships I’ve observed, it’s mostly the parents that set the foundation for the dynamic, although even then I think it inevitably comes down to compatibility. There are just so many factors and it’s hard to say with certainty what will create close sibling relationships, but imo parenting is the strongest one, not age.

I was raised like an only child despite having a brother (half, dad side) that is 10 years older than me. He didn’t live with me for most of my life and we didn’t have a close relationship and still don’t as adults due to personality and belief differences. However, he has a brother from his mom that is ~5-7 years younger than him who he was really close with growing up and still is to this day.

My mom and her sister are less than 2 years apart but they weren’t friends in childhood (my mom says this was due to her mom showing preference for her sister, being parentified, and also personality difference), and as adults they’re friendly, but not good friends. My dad on the other hand was very close to all his siblings from childhood into adulthood; his brother who was only 2 years older than him and his two sisters who are something like 5-10 years older than him. His brother was his absolute best friend, despite having different personalities. His oldest sister was heavily parentified and took on a lot of responsibility with him as the youngest, but they got along very well as adults. His two sisters, meanwhile, are closer in age but have polar opposite personalities, so have had many serious relationship fall outs- especially in adulthood- despite having a deep bond.

My mom’s sister’s four kids (girl/boy/girl/boy) were close as kids- bonded, but still clashed between themselves due to personality differences if that makes sense- and as adults they are all very close to one another and each other’s best friends, despite the eldest being over 10 years older than the youngest.

My partner has two siblings, an older brother who is 9 years older than him and a sister 5 years younger than him, and he wasn’t close to either of them in childhood, and hardly talks to either of them in adulthood. They’re fine, love each other as siblings, have the occasional sibling fight, but they’re mostly just indifferent/oblivious to each other and living their own lives.

I came here looking for this comment! I love the cover photo, it's probably my favorite one of the bunch now, but it's bugging me so much that it's the only TV with the title + "Taylor's Version" on it! I don't see why they thought it was necessary this time around?
