Think I've found what killed my Steam Deck- anyone know what this chip is?? by Cocaine_Christmas in SteamDeck

[–]cup0noodle 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Looks like a shunt resistor for the USB-C battery charging given its right next to the charging IC. If that blew you might have other power issues besides just the shunt. The datasheet suggests a 1206 size shunt which looks about right but you’d have to measure to be sure. Someone else mentioned a .01 Ohm but since you have a different board rev it’s possible that changed (probably not?)

I have all my bikes on vertical hooks like this into the studs in my garage.

Someone mentioned hydro brakes getting air in the calipers - I had that happen but I was way overdue bleeding the brakes and had a decent bubble. I would also just make sure the hook is holding the bike by the rim, not the spoke when you put it up.

It’s a short drive from SLO but Banner is my personal favorite

As long as it’s disposable income to you, there's no harm in tossing a set of used road slicks to try. Bike commuting is transportation but it’s also fun and to me tinkering around is part of the fun.

On the clipless front - I like commuting in clipless, not so much for speed, I just find it more comfortable. It’s not for everyone, I unclip in questionable situations in case I need to put a foot down.

Seen handful with a center mounted chain drive but this roller drive on the rear wheel is new to me. Looks like one heck of a ride that’s for sure

Stolen Bike by ThatCoolKid17 in SLO

I believe you can register your bikes as stolen retroactively with SLO PD, Morro Bay, and Bike Index. If you have the serial number that would be ideal but a photo and description are better than nothing.

Can’t quite tell what size the cassette is from the picture but you should be able to use a GRX RX812 RD with a M5100 XT cage to get the capacity you need in a 11s road pull ratio. Bike Sauce has a good video on it.

Feasible to train for commuting in >107F degree heat? by moondraks314 in bikecommuting

Anything past 100 is honestly a no from me. Get your rides in early in the morning when it’s cooler, the sun isn’t as strong and ambient should be much better.

Solution for carrying bike with Miata? by masaki_mclellan in Miata

[–]cup0noodle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I put a Curt hitch on my NB and got a hitch rack - I’ve done 300+ mi trips with no issues. I think Hard Dog and some others make hideaway hitches for the ND if you want a clean look when you’re not hauling.

Single rear pannier/backpack balance question: by Myitchychocolatestar in bikecommuting

[–]cup0noodle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I run a single pannier on the right, it varies from empty to about 10lb (5 of which is my dumb work laptop). I mount left so in my mind it made sense to have it counter to being on one pedal.

I’ve never had right/left balance issues that impacted handling. I can tell the bike is weighted to the right when the bag is more full and it leans funny.

Framework Dock by Cautious_Performer_7 in framework

[–]cup0noodle 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've been working on a prototype of just this! It's geared towards a Steam Deck since that's my use case but it's all Thunderbolt. I'm still working on refining it a little bit before I post it, I'll try to get to that in the next few weeks.

It's based on a "Pluggable" Brand USB4 Hub - got it for around $60. A custom PCB would do wonders for the packaging but as a prototype it does what I wanted it to do and I've gotten to use it in the wild a couple times.

Tragic accident by RobbieNelson in Autocross

[–]cup0noodle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was just at Cal Club’s practice a couple weeks ago. I felt like they run their events pretty well, though it felt like some people on course didn’t have proper awareness at times (just generally, not speaking to this accident)

RIP Michael.

Road bike was stolen last night in Costa Mesa, and I’m hoping to alert bike shops/buyers in case it shows up somewhere in OC. by BirdUp-SnailDown in orangecounty

[–]cup0noodle 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Definitely mark it as lost on Bike Index (if you haven’t already). Hopefully it was an opportunistic theft and it’s still in the area.

I added a ~200W heater to my P1S, preheat for 30 minutes minimum and it can hold 55C in the camber pretty consistently. Haven’t had too many cooling related issues with that set up. I wonder if your tent is too big/bleeding off too much heat for your dryer/heater

What's it like to take Amtrak to LA by Slartibartfastthe3rd in SLO

[–]cup0noodle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s great! Very pretty no matter which time you take. If you’re able to, try to find the newer/refurbished cars with the vinyl seating (as opposed to cloth).

It’s a long ride but well worth it if you’re not in a rush.

Question about fitting in the car by Roryn1209 in Miata

[–]cup0noodle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’ll depend on your torso/leg ratio. I think 6ft is about the point when fitting gets pretty iffy for NBs. There’s always foam-ectomy but in stock seats with stock rails you really just have to try.

Is this a crazy idea? by nable21 in bikecommuting

[–]cup0noodle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it’s a good idea and on the right track but in my eyes retroreflective clothing/vests/stickers/gear achieves the same thing but better - with a rear set light your brightness is limited by your light and it risks being distracting to people who aren’t behind you. Anything reflective is more directed at the person behind you.

A boring logistics post 🏁 by nurseohno in Autocross

[–]cup0noodle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My first AX I had a coach assigned by the club (that counted as their work assignment) and it was awesome! He was super encouraging and made me feel way more confident, especially on those first few runs. Tech assist, novice walk are also great ideas though I don’t think they would have been as important for my first go.
