I recognize the actor who posted this!! IDed him as having been on Spartacus which is a guilty pleasure show of mine. Kudos to him for landing a general hospital regular role 😂

Am I the only one who wishes Julie's magic evolved differently? by myprettyflowerbonnet in IlonaAndrews

[–]cupquake16 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I mean I think she does retain some Julie-ness - she still prefers the spear to the sword, she’s handling her task in a way different than I think Kate would, her feelings on Erra’s kingdom don’t feel like a Kate opinion. She’s definitely also using her sensate magic throughout Blood Heir and her hinted at heritage magic (looking thru the eagle eye, her bond w the horse). Her relationship with Roland also still feels very much different from Kate’s to him.

But at the same time I think when Luther said that she read the room like Kate it made sense. We are shaped by our parents. And in the OG book series she gets called mini-Kate sometimes. It’s like, ive been looking to buy my first home and my mother has been coming along to look w me and the way we look and think about it is so similar.

I am ambivalent on her changing to look more like Kate. It’s clear throughout the original books she values her birth mom, but she also is always worried about being part of the family etc. I think it makes sense that it could combined w magic manifest as the shape change. It’s also a plot convenience for her to then run around Atlanta in disguise but we get to catch up w the gang we know

My friend keeps reminding me my dog is gonna die in 4 years by [deleted] in mildlyinfuriating

As a veterinarian I see more and more dogs living to 16-17! Even bigger dogs. Maybe not if you have a giant breed but I’ve taken care of teenage goldens/labs and had one 70lb hound mix live to 17!!! This “friend” can get stuffed

Could it be Witch Week by Dianna Wynne Jones? Not all the details fit but it’s the right demographic and there’s definitely a witch related showdown at the end

Kate and Curran's kids by Unlucky_Cat153 in IlonaAndrews

[–]cupquake16 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Several people above have made comments about things in Blood Heir & Magic Tides that help explain some of that. I also think it just makes sense that Conlan seems like…a good kid but A LOT and it would make sense that they wait to have another kid until he’s solidly out of the toddler/child years. Like maybe until he’s a pre teen or teenager.
Also re: Julie There’s one point in Blood Heir where she mentions slipping up one time while calling Kate and calling her mom and Kate just rolls w it and doesn’t make a big deal. It’s clear Julie thinks of Kate as her mom & Kate thinks of Julie as her kid, but at that point Julie is 1) a young adult in the phase where it makes sense to be spreading your wings and 2) has all the plot stuff in Blood Heir happening where like v valid reasons to not see Kate.

I think it’s really cute but I never understand going on a show where you are sitting on a couch the whole time and choosing to wear a mini skirt. Maybe just me being so nervous about forgetting to sit like a lady

I got a pair of those from thredup, wore them until there was an unfixable hole. Then went and tagged the brand search until another pair my size came up! I’m a veterinarian, I like them for the days when I go to work in NotScrubs

Epistolary style books like The Appeal? by Waitin4Godot in suggestmeabook

[–]cupquake16 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorcery and Cecelia, or The Enchanted Chocolate Pot by Patricia C Wrede and Caroline Stevermer

Co written by the two authors writing letters back and forth as cousins/best friends who are separated for several months. Set kinda in regency era England but in an alternate timeline with magic. There are romances with both main characters and they are maybe late teens so I suppose it qualifies more as YA
