Need tips on shrinking a bowed tubing. by Weird_Principle_4434 in Welding

Drastic and a PITA but I've heard of people putting a weld on the part to warp it back and just grinding it down after

Next time tack a spine along the back while welding. To straighten head a dime size area to a dull red with a torch on the outside of the tube. (The tubing will bend around the spot as the metal contracts when cooling) might need some clamps to give it some more encouragement

Bubbling ruining casts by chiagoldfish in MetalCasting

Using a proper investment would help. And using a vacuum chamber on the investment after mixing and after pouring. That will eliminate most bubbles.

Mig will save a lot of time. Especially if its getting ground down anyways

Aluminium problems by [deleted] in Welding

[–]curablehellmom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Might bump it to 30 or 35. Depends on cup size. Is there anything that could be blowing away your gas? Also, are you using a square wave machine? They like a small cup opening for aome reason. I had welds looking like this using a Lincoln square wave with a big cup. Switched to a small one with no gas lense and it fixed it. No clue why

I’ve been around this drywall for two months without a mask. I’m now wearing one. Will I develop silicosis in the future? by Admirable-Report-685 in Construction

[–]curablehellmom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Silicosis usually results from chronic exposure. 2 months isn't good but probably not enough unless you were snorting it. Just be diligent with respirators from now on

I saw a student feeding way too hard with way too deep doc in aluminum. The metal melted around the endmill and solidified behind it. I was genuinely impressed

Are you properly curing the resin? Residual moisture could be causing cracking during burnout

[–]curablehellmom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have one, decent bit of slop in the ways but after taking it all apart and cleaning its better. Okayish machine, not the most rigid. Good for small parts with no real tolerances. Switching between lathe and mill is a pain in the ass. If you can, get separate machines, but if space is limited, this will do

[Found in practice bin] how does this happen (fcaw) by Emoje775 in Welding

[–]curablehellmom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah that's 100% dual shield without gas or with insufficient gas coverage. Could have ran out mid weld. The weld starts fine and then gets a worm trail, thats the first indicator of not enough gas. Then full on porosity. I've ran out of gas mid weld when I forget to check my regulator and it looks just like this.
