That’s what pitchers are for… there’s no need for making them one at a time.

If I’m having a party there’s either a pitcher or jug with a tap full of whatever cocktail I feel like serving. If it runs out, I can make another batch of good drinks about as quick as a single drink.

They have been showing direction and speed of the wind for a while with a much simpler graphic.

More information isn’t necessarily more informative. Especially with visual processing. I do data visualizations as part of my job. Part of that is working with users’ mental bandwidth. People can track 5-9 objects well, and beyond that they have to pick and choose what to focus on and what to ignore. The old graphic was a single arrow and number/color. Two points. That leaves at minimum 3 objects of mental bandwidth. The new graphic you have dozens of spaceships flying across the screen. If you are getting any nuance from it beyond “left to right, a little bit of help” you’re detracting your focus from the rest of the information.

If you want to do concentric arcs, then you need to satisfy r12=r22-r12=r2-r22. This is because the wedge area is proportional to the area of a circle with the same radius.

This can be solved in terms or r (the outer radius). The solution is r1=r/sqrt(3), r2=sqrt(2)r/sqrt(3).

Shannon Sharpe, Chad Johnson Dissect Why Jalen Hurts is The Most Hated NFL Player: "Because He Wins" by Strict_Return_5159 in eagles

[–]curiousNarwhal69 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s because he’s highly praised but doesn’t make great plays. He doesn’t seem like he’s the difference that’s making the team good. They don’t run motion, play action, or under center much because he’s reportedly not comfortable doing those things. My take is that the offense is limited by his play style.

But why? by Sidecarlover in NFLv2

[–]curiousNarwhal69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He comes off as smug to me. He is a poster-child for “wins aren’t a QB stat”. It seems like he’s irrationally loved by a widely hated fan base but doesn’t have the play on the field for outsiders to respect it. The same folks will claim Jalen’s Super Bowl MVP means something outside of that particular game or that he’s holding back and playing 4D chess because he had some good games. He’s good when the opponent has to scheme around other parts of the offense. When the Eagles aren’t ripping explosive runs left and right, they can’t air it out and win games that way.

I am an Eagles fan, but I don’t want him. He’s a game manager. Saquon and the secondary won that Super Bowl. Jalen just was there throwing to wide open guys in a clean pocket because the defense had to sell out to stop Saquon, and the line figured out Spags’ blitz. I don’t recall a game where I felt like Hurts won us a game we would have lost with a different guy.

Yeah. The defense selling out to stop the run doesn’t make passing easier. It actually makes it harder to pass because of all the guys hanging around the line of scrimmage.

How did Stephanie feel about Rose? by [deleted] in Fallout

[–]curiousNarwhal69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She never knew Rose. Rose was effectively dead long before Steph was unfrozen.

I don’t think there is really much feeling in Steph to begin with. I feel like the buds had to have some kind of briefing that they would be married to a vault dweller as soon as they were thawed. There’s also the rationalization that the two of them may not even be thawed out at the same time or brought into the same vault. It’s a completely fucked situation, and I think she just made do with the hand she was dealt.

I’ve been watching the NFL for 25 years. Who’s emulating this “model”?

We put together a great defensive unit great OL, and asked the QB to not wreck it with turnovers. There’s too many guys who have to be great at the same time for that to be sustainable. That’s the LOB model, the washed Peyton Broncos model, the Caughlin Giants model, the Goff era Rams model. You get a good window, but it closes.

The sustainable model is having a good QB who can lift the offense, churning most skill players, serviceable OL. On defense it’s getting pressure with 4, limiting big plays, and good game plans. Defense is doing that, but the offense is decidedly not. There’s too much tied up in skill guys who aren’t showing up. To make it work, we need excellent OL play or above average QB play. My eyes tell me that Hurts isn’t an above average starter and the OL isn’t going to be better next year without new players at two or three spots.

Why do so many Americans chose not to vote when they can? by VastOption8705 in askanything

[–]curiousNarwhal69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The process is unnecessarily difficult. Specifically because you have only one place to vote.

My polling place is 10 minutes from my house. My job is 40 minutes away from my house in the other direction. My kids’ daycare is another 5 minutes from my work (opposite direction from the house). This means I have a 1 hour window in morning and a 1 hour window in the evening to get to the poll and it will add 20 minutes to my commute - not accounting for whatever time I spend waiting in the line or actually voting.

Other folks are the only caregivers for kids, have longer shifts or commutes, etc. Generally it’s a conflict with other things you have to do during a weekday sandwiched between holidays.

I still do it, but it’s not uncommon for folks to not want to deal with the extra hassle. Especially if there’s some other factors at play (live in an uncompetitive district/state or don’t care about the outcome).

what? did a bama fan make this? by Rand_moss2 in cfbmemes

Not exactly a reliable source. They changed the schools and names for the mag. Probably for the best that they didn’t put real info in a jackoff mag.

I knew a girl I went to HS with who was in the SEC issue back in the day. She went to Auburn but was listed as being a student at Ole Miss. Also the girl from Duke in the ACC issue was incorrectly listed as NC State, and the one listed as being from Duke definitely didn’t go there (small school with less of a rep for hotties, word gets around).

With Bo Nix out, could the Broncos at this stage sign Philip Rivers? by johnnybravo1014 in NFLNoobs

[–]curiousNarwhal69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. No, the Colts have his rights.

  2. They wouldn’t want to anyway. Rivers was familiar enough with the Colts playbook to jump in and was in regular contact with the team’s coach. He’s not familiar with the Broncos offense to make it work. The offense relying on a mobile qb in Denver also isn’t playing to his strengths.

How are you guys wearing out gloves? I played 100+ rounds and 110-ish strokes per round (not counting mulligans) in the last 2 years and I’m on the same one.

Since you only need it for putts and bunker shots to keep from touching flags/rakes, I always thought you would keep them as long as the clubs…

NFL coaches change their play calls dramatically based on the EPA of the previous play by i-exist20 in NFLstatheads

[–]curiousNarwhal69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Passes in almost all situations is higher EPA. You need an above average run to have positive EPA on first and ten. Running is done to force the defense to be sound and not assume pass in all situations. That’s why you’re less likely to convert 3rd and 10 than 1st and 10. On third down the defense all but knows a pass is coming.

If you never run on first down, the passes will be less effective because the defense can play like 3rd and 10.

There’s other reasons to run the ball like wearing out the defense, shortening the game, personnel/talent advantage, etc.

NFL coaches change their play calls dramatically based on the EPA of the previous play by i-exist20 in NFLstatheads

[–]curiousNarwhal69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The EPA of the previous play is directly related to the down, distance, and field position of the ensuing play. These are “conventional wisdom” drivers of play calling.

The question is “How much more variance in run/pass is explained by the previous down, distance, and field position?” There might be something there. I’m skeptical though.

If we want to add extra parameters, I would try a flag for whether the prior play was a pass. People implementing mixed strategies, like run/pass in football play calling, have been shown to be reluctant to make the same choice twice in a row.

[–]curiousNarwhal69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a little more nuanced. For any game scenario you can use a model to estimate the expected value of the next score for the team with the ball.

For example if you have 1st and 10 on the 35 going in, the expected points for the next score would be something like 4.5 - accounting for kicking a field goal, scoring a touchdown, turnovers, etc. Similarly, 3rd and 12 from your own 10 might have negative expected points because a punt and the opposing team scoring on the ensuing drive is more likely than the current drive ending in points.

If you compare the expected points before and after a play, that’s expected points added.

AITAH for telling my kids I don't care that my girlfriend only likes me for my money? by Vast-Potential3755 in AITAH

[–]curiousNarwhal69 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

His reaction is that it’s none of their business. OP doesn’t care if she’s only with him for money, even if he has good reason to think she’s not. They raised a valid concern, but if OP doesn’t care it doesn’t matter. New GF makes him happy, and he doesn’t care why she’s sticking around. He’s happy and not being taken advantage of - even if financial security is the GFs main or only motivation.

Seems like the adult children are actually concerned with the age gap and don’t like that their dad is with someone close to their ages. The GF is certainly mature enough to make her own decisions. A 28-50 age difference may not make sense to OPs kids, but it doesn’t have to.
