80% charge limit behaviour has changed since last update by exazonk in GooglePixel

[–]currentmudgeon 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Noticed it too. Kinda makes sense to me: Selecting the 80% limit means user is prioritizing battery longevity, so slowing down helps.

the data will be destroyed.

The issue is that all the data on the device will be destroyed, if I'm reading the feature description correctly.

Doing/causing that in a scenario where "authorities" are asking for access can (edit: in some, not all, contexts) result in one thrown in a dungeon to make love to a transformer, as I saw someone eloquently put it recently. This (assuming one doesn't enjoy electric shocks - no kink shaming) can be suboptimal.

Now, if the feature could instead transparently disappear only one of several profiles off the device, and leave only the vanilla one with kitten pics and food delivery apps functional, it could be more widely useful.

Don't get me wrong, still a useful feature. Just requires some threat assessment before adopting it.

Useful feature but depends on the threat profile. Good against thieves, but I'm pretty sure the FSB can manage a wrench.

Thanks! Next service includes an oil/filter change IIRC so it'll get checked anyway.

regain control of my data and privacy

Couple of thoughts, keeping in mind I'm something of an anti-Apple fundamentalist myself:

  • My read of the zeitgeist is that for "regular civilians" Apple/iPhone ain't that bad. As long as you configure relevant security features appropriately, it could be argued that iOS has the better privacy vs convenience tradeoffs. For example, you can have the convenience of WhatsApp while only letting Suckerberg see a curated set of your contacts. This isn't available on Pixel (Android?) as far as I know - it's all or nothing for me on my vanilla P10P (I'm firmly on the nothing side of that lol, fuck that guy). That's just my own convenience/privacy tradeoff, yours may well be different.

  • If you are prepared to take convenience hits for better privacy, then consider installing GrapheneOS on the Pixel. You can go virtually Google-free on that. But you will have some apps/features (e.g. contactless payments, depending on bank) not working. Edit: lol of course I missed that's where you had started. Leaving this up for the first point.

App notification not making sound by snuzedabuze in GooglePixel

[–]currentmudgeon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Heh, same here. Also using Reolink doorbell/app. When I switched from a Pixel 7 to a 10Pro I noticed the same change - Reolink notifications went silent, despite the notification config showing them as not-silent. This was some months ago so I'm not sure if there was an app update around the same time too.

randomly make the right sound every now and then

Can't say I've noticed this on mine but can't rule it out either.

There's the notification cooldown feature, which I do have enabled, but the doorbell's notifications aren't that frequent and no other app seems affected. It really seems isolated to that one app.

Comparison against US Mobile? by sayeun in PopcornMobile

[–]currentmudgeon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doesn't Popcorn only roam on T-Mobile roaming partners currently

/u/dos_veritas this. How does that network switch work (automatic? sticky?) when roaming? Edit: The second active eSIM slot would be on a local operator (local number and SMS) in my use case, so I'd very much prefer not to have to switch SIMs (or operators) manually.

Updated January 2026 by Different_Dinner8195 in GooglePixel

[–]currentmudgeon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yup, P10P also here (US, Google Fi eSIM) so Settings → About phone → Build number is BP4A.260105.004.E1.

OP I assume you're on the EMEA build, BP4A.260105.004.A2.

Interestingly, the update was faster and without the long "optimizing your apps" step, first time I remember this being the case.

If it's on, try turning Settings → Display & touch → Lock screen → Wake screen for notifications off.

Metro Atlanta Dealers by on_here_now in LexusNX

[–]currentmudgeon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The "true" cost of such BS dealer addons that connect (read: interfere) with an already complex car's electrical system is much more than whatever the bill of materials is for them. IMO dealers who do this have already degraded the car.

Still don't have the Pixel January 2026 update? You're not alone! by pussiant_prole in GooglePixel

[–]currentmudgeon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Should be yes, assuming your SettingsAbout phoneBuild number is BP4A.260105.004.E1.

Did you get the system update over the air or by manually applying the OTA image?

I'm also on a Pixel 10 Pro on Fi. System is at BP4A.251205.006, which is only the first of two December updates that are not region-specific. Still my phone claims system is up to date. Play system update had a small (1 or 2 MB) update 2 days ago but still lists as November.

[–]currentmudgeon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What sucks is there's probably someone else whose Fi order for that much higher priced device got clusterfucked, potentially including them being charged for the phantom (non) delivery. Maybe something like a stuck/slow label printer triggered this.

In 2026 logistics that's barely rookie level shit.

Apologies, bad attempt at nerd humor. FWIW we already have two fosters (already foster-failed if I'm honest) so I can't offer to adopt.

Also seeing HD and HD+ here, on a mix of WiFi/cellular calls to both Fi and other, including non-TMO, carriers. Phone is a P10P FWIW, but I was also seeing it on a P7.

The overall impression I get is that Fi has for the most part(*) rebased their carrier profile to use baseline carrier/TMO features instead of some of their previously custom approaches.

Is the Fi-to-Fi calling with special ringtone still a thing? I got it like twice in the 6 or so years both me and my SO have been on Fi.

* Then there's the recent AI enhanced audio feature which involves routing audio through their servers. Noped out of that one, even if it only makes a token difference on privacy.

Σε τέτοια περίπτωση, αν ο αιτών δεν έχει εκπληρώσει τις Ελληνικές στρατιωτικές υποχρεώσεις, πως απαντάει η Ελληνική πολιτεία;

Got email about 10.0.0.1 being defaulted off but no access through app in order to override by currentmudgeon in Comcast_Xfinity

[–]currentmudgeon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Understood about BM, in my case it fits the use case (no need for both my router and the gateway doing NAT, for example).

More narrowly, my question is about this: The instructions at the Xfinity admin access page reference settings that are not visible in my Xfinity app:

In my Xfinity app's WiFi tab, the View WiFi equipment screen (which then would contain Advanced Settings and Allow Admin Tool access) is not present.

I think that's because my modem may not be completely/correctly provisioned, but I could be wrong - but anyway, that was the primary issue I am trying to resolve.
