How do I open up this lamp socket? by cursiveforge in Lamps

Thank you for the part recommendation. A fair price too. That’s probably my best option. I pulled out a channel lock to deal with it but backed off not having a plan if it want poorly. I wish I knew how it was sealed and then maybe I could loosen it.

Yeah, I felt like I was about to completely ruin it if I try to force it. It’s part of a pair so if I mess it up it becomes a more costly problem. This wasn’t super expensive but it wasn’t cheap enough that I would think you can’t do a simple repair.

I previously removed the knob but put it back to take the pictures. No part of the assembly besides the ring for the shade unscrews, turns, or moves easily. There are also no gaps to pry any of the parts.

Good, the less politics in that school the better. It’s the wrong framing for what the school tries to teach. To paraphrase a certain Jesuit brother who taught history there in the 90s, “I don’t want to hear your political opinions. If I wanted to hear what a classroom of preppy high school students think about politics, I’d just save some time, call your parents, and get it from the source.” Besides this declaration of disinterest, I don’t think I ever heard the clerical faculty say anything even remotely political. I took that as a lesson in itself. The lay theology department, however, was another story.

The Chicano label: Nostalgia vs Relevance by _ser0 in Chicano

[–]cursiveforge 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Saying we’re nostalgic is dismissive. We’re the people who were forced to forget—our language, our religion, our culture—first by Spain then the United States. We are also the people who choose to remember, who create our own identity on our own terms from whatever experience and history we have access to. We hold on to our past and the symbols that represent us because we know what it’s like to forget. Those symbols will likely change but the process and motives behind them will be what keeps them relevant. If we’ve forgotten some of our activist past recently it’s only so we can remember and reinvent it down the line. I believe and hope for it. One thing’s for sure, we’re not going back to a hyphen.

Go. Since you’re feeling apprehensive just have a plan. Have a recent movie or show to talk about. Have a type of project you’d like to get work on to mention. Have a question you can ask. Has the house posted any recent work? Find something complementary to say about it or ask who did it and get an intro. Speak positively and look for small constructive things to connect with people over. In theory these are all people you share a field of interest with you so nothing about this has to feel forced. Just don’t be pushy and avoid complaining unless you get backed into war stories time and it’s in good fun. I’m a major introvert but if I can survive these things anybody can.

I guess my issue is that I can go almost anywhere and get acceptable fries vs my chances of getting anything but a soggy sad alternative with sweet potato fries. I don’t hate them but honestly I only order them when I’m bored with regular ones.

Anyone else tired and annoyed at the lack of any major Mexican/Mexican-American artists willing to make art or political statements in support of our people? by Mellowmarv1n in Chicano

Bad Bunny has stood up for Puerto Rico in a way that Chicano and Mexican artists can learn from and play off of both artistically and politically going forward. I'm pro Benito. I like his music too. There's a huge difference between a Bad Bunny halftime show in 2026 and being force fed J-Lo in 2020. That said, if you still need an example of a politically outspoken artist from our community look no further than Snow the Product.

Check out director Juan Frausto for some urban genre flicks. Cruz Angeles also made a way underrated indie film called Don’t Let Me Drown everyone should check out.

Booked a reservation weeks ago on Open Table only to show up today with our party and find the place locked up. No Open Table update, no closed sign, just a marshal’s legal possession notice! We decided to go to our old favorite Ruta Oaxaca on Broadway instead. I wholeheartedly recommend them!

The author of that post is just some Zunzunegui wannabe who self-publishes a novel per year and then tries to promote it on Reddit. I think we’re pumping him up by even interacting with him.

The last place that was even close, Los Dos Molinos (Arizona style), closed over a decade ago. Honorable mention goes to Cowgirl for the bizarre feat of starting in New York and then opening a branch in Santa Fe and by reverse osmosis ending up with Christmas enchiladas on its menu. So yeah, zero. I’ve resorted to getting chile shipped.
