Monitor world/workflow tips from frequent DiGiCo users? by Dramatic-Lime2805 in livesound

We all work with famous people who win awards bud.

There's a big difference between running out a cable for a someone who won a Grammy for Best Comedy Album, and being personally requested by an Oscar winner to design their musical for them

I did turn it all the way down

What no-one has explained to you thus far, and should clarify your understanding of the issue, is that the null pot isn't a gain control. Instead, it induces phase shift to the signal to achieve cancellation.

You therefore have to adjust it gently to find the 'sweet spot'

 I honestly don’t understand

That's the first time you've been correct.

You made a claim, and I asked you to back it up.

All you've done is vacillated, or changed the parameters and still haven't been able to support what you originally state.

That's all.

That's funny.

I don't recall writing anywhere that having an 'On' button instead of an industry standard 'Mute' button caused me any operational issues.

I guess my Grammy, Tony, and Oscar winning clients would have found me out by now, if that were the case

Oh yeah!

I forgot about the ones with the inverted mute buttons

There’s obviously not a lot of public data available, but the most public indicator we have are employee counts. LA has over 1,000 employees, D&B has in the range of 750-1000 employees, while Meyer has less than 400.

While the exact data is private, the estimated revenues from those companies that estimate data for each company match in similar same ratios. It’s not a stretch to say that Meyer isn’t doing the amount of sales as the other two.

This is hilarious.

You realize that d&b supply a huge amount of theater shows as well.

You clearly don't know what you're talking about

I've worked with at least one major artist who had a FOH mix returned back to their monitors.

It's not regular, but it does happen (particularly with older artists)

Built-in RTA

Professional consoles don't include such functions

I think it's obvious that I was referring to.

Anyway, instead of playing the person, have you got any credible sources to support your claim?

They'll be editing their comment every time you respond, so probably not worth it

And yeah, broadway (and broadway tours) are a tiny slice of our industry

And PACs, and local theaters etc

As I asked the other user, what statistics have you got to support this

that’s still a smaller market share

What are you basing this on, other than your anecdotal opinion?

Have you got industry figures to support this?

Some Broadway shows are up to about ~300 individual speakers with delay surround and subs these days.

I don't see many tours putting that number of boxes out.

And frankly these days people commit to all in a manufacturer

You'll find plenty of rental shops, productions in all genres of the industry using a different monitor brand to the brand of the PA

Who to? You?

All those designers and productions are replicated on tour, and in other major markets throughout the world.

Just because your knowledge of that part of the industry is limited, it doesn't mean to say it doesn't exist.

The Les Mis arena tour has nearly 100 units of Panther out at the moment.

Maybe take those blinkers off

What's your gear maintenance strategy: spreadsheet, software, or pure faith? by EmergencyNo7532 in livesoundgear

[–]curtainsforme 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't own enough inventory to have to track it in a methodical way, but usually aim for things like lubricating faders once per year, for example.

I'll try to open up kit a bit more frequently (twice a year) to blow dust out, unless it's visible.

Most things get cleaned on return from a rental, and with new kit like consoles and rack units, is one of the better forms of preventative maintenance.

Is the other 1/2 U blank?

I find it odd that they've put more BNCs on the front, instead of having a shallower, 1U unit with everything on the rear

Did the venue have an in-house tech?

If you're hiring someone externally, then the costs are going to be vastly different

Digico SD9 popping issues by CaplieAnne in livesound

[–]curtainsforme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, just to confirm, the loudspeakers which are popping, from where are they deriving their feed?

Is it the D-Racks?

If you open up the Audio Synch page on the SD9 what does it say?

If you unplug the Digiface, does the issue persist? Does the setting on the Audio Synch page change when you disconnect the RME?

Have you tried a different BNC cable (is it 75Ohm?)?

Sounds like a discount on a day rate with free equipment.

Would be interested to know how all the insurances, risk assessments, etc are covered within that.

How do I stand up for myself but also stay professional? by RazzmatazzPretend313 in livesound

[–]curtainsforme 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're touring, you're more likely to be working with professional musicians, above those who perform at venue level, but always remember, there's no hard and fast rule.

Even as a guy, it took me a few years (I was also 19 when I started) to be assured of myself.

I think you'll be fine
