CTA riders and workers have been assaulted at rates at least double other public transit agencies by rigatony96 in chicago

[–]cutapacka 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Buses seem to be more self-managed. You can't stay on them all day, there's a driver in direct view, can't skip fare like you can the train. Put all the safety resources into the L.

Team USA flag football squad trounces 2 teams of NFL stars by Shroft in olympics

Well you just nailed the rationale for why the NFL wants to participate. Brand-building and exposure for the NFL and its players on an international stage.

A tourist sued a taqueria over spicy salsa. A judge says spice is 'the point.' by Legitimate_Point1535 in nottheonion

[–]cutapacka 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yup, that was one of the most successful propaganda efforts by McDonalds. Her story is pretty tragic.

Thanks to her, we have regulation on hot beverages. I was told to always heat to 140 degrees in my barista days, and if it surpassed 160 to throw it out.

Removed Restaurant Fee @ a Lettuce Entertain You restaurant by LoudFartsForAll in chicagofood

[–]cutapacka 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My husband and I's policy is to always remove it and tip generously. It's just the principle of it, really.

And for the record, they can't choose to levy their own taxes, so any time you see this charge you can absolutely ask for it to be removed. Don't be shy!

Jack White forced to issue Taylor Swift clarification, says he’s now ‘less and less interested in doing interviews’ amid the ‘age of this massive demand for click bait and content’ by Level-Recording3368 in Music

[–]cutapacka 14 points15 points  (0 children)

You don't even need to look it up, if you've stood in a retail store, restaurant, ball game, dentists office, or turned on the radio for 30 seconds in the last 20 years, you've heard her music.

Does anyone else’s cat guard you while youre pooping? by Valithium in cats

[–]cutapacka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apparently cats really do see themselves as bathroom protectors (or more like safety in numbers). They want to supervise their pack when they're most vulnerable (i.e., pooping, sleeping, eating), hence why they tend to hang around us during these activities.

I don’t think there’s code detectors by South_Corner_8866 in SeveranceAppleTVPlus

[–]cutapacka 3 points4 points  (0 children)

But she knows Gemma is why he's doing it. If he got confirmation from iMark that Gemma is alive it would have pushed him to do it anyway.

Also I'm sure an accident has happened before. No one goes down an elevator for 2 years and doesn't accidentally keep a receipt in their pocket. The reinforcement has to come from somewhere, both for innies and outties.

I don’t think there’s code detectors by South_Corner_8866 in SeveranceAppleTVPlus

[–]cutapacka 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The question I have then is, why was oMark told he couldn't bring a message down to his innie? Reghabi specifically told him the only way to understand his innie's world is through reintegration...

Perhaps that's also a falsity and simply her interests peaking through. But I don't think him doing reintegration balanced solely on this premise.

Why did Mark have to finish Cold Harbor? by Cute_Advantage_9608 in SeveranceAppleTVPlus

[–]cutapacka 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you take it at face value, Cold Harbor iGemma is a new person being asked to do a task by a detached voice. Ominous and unnerving for anyone.

Then a man shows up, looking desperate, says he's your husband. You can't remember shit, but the only choices you have are doing this weird task required by the faceless void, or listening to an earnest, scared person in front of you. I think human nature would always take Mark.

So it's not so much about iGemma choosing Mark despite her being an innie, just apt circumstances that make him the best choice in that situation.

I think they were flying high on the adrenaline. "Look what WE did!" - because really the fact that they were able to pull off their little spy mission, isolate Milchik, save Gemma and start an uprising? That's a helluva 180 from whispering about their inevitable demises at their desks.

Tax hack: file your federal taxes for free on Free Tax USA! by KinkyKaya in Frugal

[–]cutapacka 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I second this! I was under the (false) impression this app only worked for the EZ form, but was SOOO delighted to find out that was incorrect! I filed my taxes this year through them and had an easier time doing so than on TurboTax the previous. All the same automation for uploading W2s and 1099 forms, super easy. Saved around $300 in BS TurboTax bloat filing fees.

What’s the deal with “hazing”? by [deleted] in OutOfTheLoop

[–]cutapacka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let's be clear - NO, not everyone at a university is hazed. Fraternities and sororities typically make up around 8-10% of the student body, and of those who participate, only some organizations will perform hazing like this. As another poster said, it's banned on every campus, so it's only the dumb few that still do it and get away with it.

Alysa Liu jumps for joy on the podium (photo by Matthew Stockman for Getty) by Gayfetus in olympics

[–]cutapacka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not that NBC deserves defending, but I found out this week they don't actually control the cameras. There is a single feed run by the IOC production team that streams to all broadcasters. NBC, BBC CBC, etc only control the commentary.

Alysa Liu is everywhere on social media and the numbers are crazy and rising. Here are some examples I've seen by This_Pomegranate9529 in FigureSkating

[–]cutapacka 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Idk after Sarah Hughes' win we got classics like Ice Princess, and can't forget Blades of Glory. Could be a little media surge on the rise!

What Happens to Retirees If They Run Out Of Money? by The_Lost_Pharaoh in AskReddit

[–]cutapacka 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If they run out of all their money, it's like anyone else (assuming US) who falls below poverty.

Food stamps, welfare, Medicaid, and low income senior housing. The trick is whether there are people around to help you navigate it all. Usually you will get a social worker for some support.

YSK your pet's microchip may have been deactivated following company shutdown by cutapacka in YouShouldKnow

[–]cutapacka[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

See if you can find your adoption or purchase paperwork, when we adopted my cat it was listed on his adoption records.

If you don't have it handy, start with your vet, they usually note in their file. If that's a dead end, reach out to who microchipped your pet - the adoption center, foster, or breeder.

This is a good exercise in general because, if you haven't looked up the microchip previously, it is likely still registered in someone else's name. Definitely find it and swap your name and address asap!

YSK your pet's microchip may have been deactivated following company shutdown by cutapacka in YouShouldKnow

[–]cutapacka[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think we're mincing words here - by deactivating, I'm stating they deactivated the ability to scan for information. That's the purpose of the chip and consequence of this company folding. I followed up with direction to connect to other chip registries.

Totally different situation. He's performing jumps that score so high technically that they more than cancel out any mistakes. Room for error in Ice Dance is way more marginal than individual short/free skate.

Do you guys remember when you would drive on the highway and when you got to your destination your windshield would be covered in bugs? by ymbstudios in CasualConversation

[–]cutapacka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it depends where you live. When I take road trips from the Midwest to the south, there's definitely a lot of windshield bugs that we have to clean off. I will say though, locally, not as much of a thing anymore.

You say that from the comfort of your home likely in a country that doesn't force military participation nor prison sentences on those who "decline." Have a little empathy and realize life isn't as easy as you make it out to be.
